(26M) Looking to meet new folk and figure out some hobby opportunities

Hi,

Not local to Lancaster itself, based in Cumbria - been a long time coming, but after getting my stuff sorted I'm trying to figure out what hobbies to pursue and to just meet new people, try new things. From where I'm from (barrow lol), there's not much in the way other than football and partying, where I've always enjoyed Lancaster for what it is. Not too sure really what I expect from writing this post, I guess just trying to discern some rhyme and reason, figure out what my passions are and just meet some interesting folk.

I like to read, write literature, used to draw, play board games, but really just trying to figure out something external and outgoing that'll stick on a weekly/biweekly basis to get me up to Lancaster more often. Any advice appreciated on where to look, cheers.

Why isn't the direct slip-road being used at the Bay Gateway A6 rounder bout?

In my eyes, having this slip road open will be safer as it doesn't require high-speed traffic to come to a complete stop. Any ideas why it's not open?

Should I move back?

It's been about 10 years since I lived in Lancaster as a student, and I remember it very fondly (not sure how much of that is the rose tint of youth).

I've spent most of the time since living in Edinburgh, which for all its charms I'm starting to become disenchanted with. The city feels increasingly unsafe what with the fascists, the football, the addicts, and the ebike gangs. The council are only interested in lining their pockets so public works and services are going massively downhill.

Don't get me wrong, Edinburgh has some of the best pubs, comedy clubs, parks, architecture etc. it's a tourist destination for good reason.

For those that currently live in Lancaster has there been a similar decline over the last ten years or would I move back to find the place relatively unchanged? For former big city livers would Lancaster feel too quiet, not enough to do?

If it was just me I'd move back without a thought as it won't affect my work so wouldn't be that big of a commitment, but my partner would have to find a new job and has only ever lived in London and Edinburgh so not used to being somewhere as small as Lancaster.

Are there any car clubs currently operating in Lancaster? A web search didn't result in hits but maybe there's a scheme that didn't show up.

Local Meetup Meeting new people

Hi all,

I thought I'd post here to see if I can meet any new cool people in my area!

I'm a gamer and massively into technology my main issue is alot of my friend group is based outside of Lancaster so the social aspects of meeting up is sparse!

Hopefully I can connect with some people in my area and potentially make some new friends.

Surely I can't be the only one right?

I hope it's OK to remind everyone that this event is on in two weeks time at Kanteena.

We have a full day of music and entertainment free of charge from 2-10pm.

There are loads of established acts from the North West music scene coming and we have the usual bar and food available at Kanteena.

All money raised from tombola and raffle will go to our charity that runs clothes and food banks and provides practical support to rough sleepers.

We'd love to get the space full of people to get the party atmosphere going. Please share with anyone you know who might enjoy this and pop it in your diary.

Book via Kanteena's website here Kanteena Booking

Hello everyone!! I am moving to the Lancaster area in September for work and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for good places to live or sites to use to find houses. I am looking for something within about 20 miles of Lancaster, £650-£800 per month in rent and 1 or 2 bedrooms. It's just me (32F) and my cat. Let me know if you have any recommendations!

A relaxed, inclusive club for ages 7–15 to read, draw and explore comics, make friends, and enjoy a safe creative space.

There’s no pressure, no strict timetable, and no ā€œrightā€ way to take part. Each session is designed to be flexible, letting children choose what they feel like doing on the day – whether that’s curling up with a comic, trying out a new one, sketching characters, building stories, or dipping into artist-led tutorials.

Saturday 27 June  •  10 AM - 11:30 AM

Manure stench?

Hello everyone,

I'm in the area for a week and for the second day in a row I can smell manure or something at seemingly random locations from the Marketgate to Bailrigg.

Is this a regular occurence this time of the year or something else? Or am I imagining smells?

Thank you

New to Lancaster Offering to look after a pet for free

Hi im offering to look after or spend time with a dog or a cat for anyone who needs it. I’m just going through depression and miss my cats back at home so greatly.

Although I don’t have much experience with dogs but I’m happy to learn.

Please feel free to dm me and hopefully we can support each other. I live in the university accommodations so anywhere around Lancaster should be fine by me.

Edit: I’m happy to walk a dog too

New to Lancaster New to Lancaster (27M) – any recommendations?

Moved in to Lancaster a couple of months ago for work and I’m still getting to know the area. I enjoy cooking, finding good coffee and pastries, and I’ve recently started playing badminton. I’ve been to a few sessions with local clubs and have really enjoyed them so far. Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for groups, events, or good ways to meet people around here? Also keen to hear about any great coffee spots, bakeries, or local gems I should check out. Thanks!
