Yeah, I'm still a bit bummed about Rex Splode's death a year after watching that episode since he was not only a funny character but he was also a compelling character.

When Season 3 ended, I already knew that things would not be the same going forth in the show.

Rex made up a big bulk of the show's comedy before S3 (notably in S1), so probably... the show's gonna be less funny and only gonna become more dark as the story progresses.

Rex Splode was one of the biggest reasons why I fell in love with the show 5 years ago and seeing my favourite character gone kinda killed my interest a little bit for the show.

At the end of S3, I thought "Yeah... this show's probably still gonna have cool fights, but it's gonna be average when it comes to dialogue scenes. It's just not the same anymore when the funniest character dies."

Also Robot taking his name just doesn't feel right. I know he had good intentions... but dude... it's weird enough that you took his DNA to make a new body... now you wanna take his name too?

What's next? You're gonna take his credit card and other personnel assets from him?

I'm glad that I read Rex's comic book origins last year, it was nice to see exactly how he became a superhero.

Man... he deserved better.

Invincible War really disappointed me in its execution. While watching it, it just felt like it was a placeholder and set up for something bigger, so the thing on screen isn't being treated with the respect it deserves.

My main gripes are:

Just to get this out of the way, this whole war doesn’t really make much sense for Angstom's characters of all people. He hates every Mark in every reality but teams up with them and promises them other dimensions to plunge into hell for their help. It just completely contradicts the whole innocent man driven into madness by accident thing they're going for. Especially considering Angstrom doesn’t see himself as a bad person, but as someone getting justice for Mark's atrocities.

The Marks at no point really feel like a threat to anyone. When I first saw them, I thought we were going to get a taste of what it would be like for Earth in case of a Viltrumite invasion. I wasn’t expecting Conquest or Nolan-level Marks or anything, but at least for them to only be beatable by our Mark. But no, they were getting killed by background heroes we’ve never heard of. And all that I was thinking was “Cecil, what the fuck is wrong with you?” If these heroes have the ability to kill any Viltrumite, even a weaker Mark, why did you not send them to help Mark in his fights against Omniman or Anissa? Nothing you had worked on Viltrumites, but these people are able to penetrate the skins of Marks and even kill them, which your 400 billion dollar laser couldn't do, aren't sent to do anything? At the very least, why are they not members of the Guardians of the Globe?

Our Mark does not feel like he is taking this threat seriously. Ok, I can get behind the excuse; it's a mind fuck to literally kill someone who is essentially you, but he, with his girlfriend and friends in danger, is just messing around. There is no reason that most of these Marks should be tossing you or overpowering you: “You're literally stronger than them,” and random heroes should not be killing them while you do nothing.

The Marks really aren’t given much lore for me to wonder about. Like I think it would have been cool to have a narrortor or at least Angstrom give each Mark an introduction while there destroying things like “Omni Mark, bested his father in combat and took his mission to concer Earth” or “Prisioner Mark, his father tired of waiting for his powers to immerge, so deemed him a failer and sent him to a Vilttumite prison, his powers emmierge later.” Like a quick 10-second things for each of them that really wouldn’t reveal much but get us interested in them.

Rex’s explosion sucked and just made Mark look so weak. Rex’s explosion was just so underwhelming for the feat it just pulled off. I was expecting a nuke level at least, since you brought up earlier with another Mark in that universe with Women Cecil and Donald that that’s how they killed Omniman. If they couldn’t do that, at least do a close-up shot so there's the excuse that Rex’s explosion was highly concentrated in one spot and show me the Mark disintegrating. I swear I expected that Mark to fly up out of that explosion with no damage; I was so shocked when he actually died.

Conquest detainment is so idiotic. This feels so out of character for Cecil to do. I was expecting him to kill Conquest and secretly have Senclair make a reanimen out of him as the Ultimate weapon, but leaving him alive to question, when a weakened Mark destroyed your equipment, and Donald and you almost died to beat. I only hope he was smart enough to put 500 of those noisemakers in Conquest's head and in every inch of the room he’s in, and they activate the moment he opens his eyes.

Eve didn’t think to remove her limiters while she was in her full power form? In it, she has the ability to do anything right, so why would she not remove the one thing that stops her from always being able to use this form constaintly? She was shown during the special to be able to augment people's minds and even affect memories.

Despite this, I am enjoying the show. It’s just that arcs like this show up in the show that really have me shaking my head.

I won't say that Robot was an angel but his fate for me sound like hypocrisy, slavery and robbery.

Robot for peace, killed heroes, villains, and that's a fact. But unlike what people say he was not a heartless, psychopath person but likely someone who knew the cost and the choice despite his emotional reluctance.

I would have been more okay if Mark killed him completely and build something on his own a true peace that reflected heroism, hope and humanity. Or ultimately collaborer. Instead, Mark made the choice he made, saying Robot was right. So what was the point of the Robot War? It was just personal on Mark side. Robot was right and not just power hungry, he saw the deep truth Mark wasn't Nolan(unable to compromise) and Robot was a treat for Mark's family and happy life.

Let me explain. Mark Grayson is a great character in both versions, but I can't help believing that in the comics, Mark is a better person. A lot of people argue that Mark is a "teenager" and that is why he acts so foolishly, but I don't buy it. I don't want Mark to just be Spider-Man with Superman's powers, but he is the exact opposite extreme of Peter. He is arrogant, he is a child who doesn't mature (yet) despite all the things he suffers, and he is annoying.

For example: he literally went on the defensive when Cecil confronted him for escaping to an unknown planet (only William remembered that Rick was a zombie cyborg, indirectly because of his fall and not because it was the right thing to do) and acted like he didn't owe anyone anything—which is ironic, since at the beginning of Season 2 he was literally begging Cecil for a job. This version of Mark made me believe that Omni-Man wasn't a hero, and that he (with all his powers) isn't one either, and I don't like that While in the comics, one of the first things he does upon arriving on Earth is go to Cecil, tell him the facts about what he found on Thraxa—all with a sense of respect and professionalism for the job.

Not only is he nerfed in the muscle department, but he's also nerfed in the brain. Example? Watch or read the conversation with Anissa and compare.

Not to mention that ask for vacations for being a hero... But what do you think?

What if atom eve one day decided she wanted to make herself stronger? Like strong enough to fist fight a viltrumite. Since she can only affect loving matter when the mental blocks are off, could she just shoot herself in the heart and use the time she has without blocks to strengthen herself?

At the end of issue 144, Darkwing is able to return from the shadow verse after Vengeance vomits him up.

Since he was able to survive in the shadow verse for so long, does this imply that No Goggles Mark could have done the same?

No Goggles Mark, as a Viltrumite, is obviously much stronger and more durable than Darkwing. And since Darkwing was able to somehow survive, I doubt No Goggles Mark couldn’t have done the same.

Do you think it is possible that, at some point after the comics stop following the events of the universe, No Goggles Mark could have returned from the shadow verse?

I was just thinking about this and I thought it was kind of cool.

I mean I expected the General of the Viltrum empire to be a powerhouse but he seems quite weak though like Conquest is generally stronger when I first saw him I expected him to just be stronger than Conquest because Conquest literally bowed down to him and bro was talking smack I mean look at Thragg he is actually steonger than Conquest so I understand why he was bowing down but at Kregg I just don't see it

I have been watching a few episodes of the tv series and k love it.

But I never read the comics, should I do that to understand more of the series?

Going into this I had only seen the super popular memes about the show ("that's the neat part you don't, "look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power" etc.) and had it in my head that it was a take on evil superman. So very little knowledge about the show and didn't even know at the time it was a comic. Little did I know it was so much more than that.

I love the constant underlying theme of consequences and trying to make right after doing so much unimaginable wrong. The good guys are constantly given reasons to doubt their actions and even the worst bad guys don't necessarily stay bad or start out bad. The line "you can be the good guy or the guy that saves the world" is so perfect for this series.

The growth and development of the side characters is unlike anything I've ever seen before. In any other series characters like Rex, Paul, Cecil, Donald, Rick, and even Debbie would be kinda one note side characters that maybe get a short one episode arc but are then just kinda in stasis instead of the well fleshed out characters that learn, grow and change over time.

The way the series presents the perspective of the Viltrumites is so fascinating. They're very much in the wrong but there's clear moments where they make a pretty reasonable argument for their point of view like when Anissa is talking to Mark to try to persuade him to carry out the mission or when Nolan is sharing the history of the scourge virus with Allen or Thragg's terms that he presents to Mark at the end of season 4. They're very much an ends justify the means civilization carried way too far but when they talk about their civilization, their way of doing things, and their reasons for it they don't seem unreasonable. It's only when remembering what their civilization is actually like and how they intend to get there where I remember what they are actually like.

Their ability to inject legit humor into some episodes even while building up to a very serious situation like the Viltrum war is really impressive. It also doesn't feel like it's detracting from the tone of the series or seriousness of the situation. In short at least for now I'm a much bigger fan of Allen the Alien than I was ever expecting to be thus far. How he handles the perfected scourge virus might change that though.

Finally I wanna say how much I have enjoyed Thragg's voice acting. When I first saw the character I was expecting a much louder, deeper, angrier voice than he had. I was assuming a voice like Nolan's but even louder and more powerful sounding. Instead it was a surprisingly quiet, calm, measured voice that made me underestimate the character at first and now feels like the only possible voice for him and sounds extremely powerful and intimidating even while being a relatively low, quiet one. I wasn't expecting the approach to the ruler of Viltrum to be a "speak softly and carry a big stick" type character but really enjoy the approach.

On a whole I'm absolutely loving it and can't stop thinking about this series (in case this massive rant didn't make that obvious enough) and am very much looking forward to season 5 and beyond. Part of me wants to try to find a way to read through the comics but I also don't wanna get spoiled for how the rest of the series goes either. If anyone has tips for how to most cheaply read the series legally and knows where the cutoff point for the current batch of episodes are I'd love to hear that.
