Did some type of one gig internet existed in the 1990s?, I’m not talking about consumer version, but like experimental versions like in universities or some big businesses.

it's really weird how supermariologan gets sued by nintendo for using mario characters which is back in february 2021 but however almost 2 months later comes in nintendo high who also used mario and luigi but how the heck nintendo didn't sued the team behind nintendo high for using the characters?

cuz nintendo high is ongoing series with 3 season and they still using mario characters to this day.. meanwhile SML had to used human puppets for the whole years after cease and desist for avoiding copyright issues

what's the reason and why?

Cox really are the worst kind of losers

I got an ad for Cox internet, and all they did was shit on their competitors, as if they didn't lose half of their customer base through sheer complacency and poor direction/decision making. As a former Cox user, I can firmly say they will never have me back with that attitude.

I purchased their device almost 2months ago. I tried it out, the data was very slow. It's 4g limited bandwidth so 5-10mbit even with excellent service. The 10gb of data that comes with device is for "testing" purposes but you need to contact customer service to sign up for one of their two plans. There is little to no documentation for this provider, all inquiries are done via email. Their one plan for local and one for traveling. The data is added to the device in 1gb increments and 1gb is banked. The lack of transparency and information is very concerning to me so I opted to get a refund before the 60 day money back guarantee ran out. It seems best suited for people who travel that need a tiny bit of data. The 1gb of data appeared to expire after 30days if you turned on the device since turning on the device uses data.

News Yahoo! Notepad is shutting down on January 15, 2027

I just received an email from Yahoo! earlier this afternoon about how Notepad is shutting down. The first part of it reads:

"Dear Yahoo Mail user,

The Yahoo Notepad feature will be discontinued on 15 Jan 2027. Until then, you can continue accessing and downloading your notes.

After that date, Notepad and all saved notes will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered."

I do give them points for at least warning users before deleting stuff like certain tech companies.

Now, I know I'm dating myself, but before I had personal access to a computer, I'd use a Dreamcast's PlanetWeb browser to write notes. I still have my oldest note from February of 2000, not long after I opened my Yahoo! account.

UPDATE: It has been brought to my attention that there is a new pop-up that appears, when you open Notepad, that says access will be cut off "after August 15, 2026." Do better, Yahoo!

Internet do your thing!

I'll try to summarize what happened. On Saturday, July 4th, we went to the Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center metro station between 12:00 and 12:16 in Washington, D.C. My brother and I were waiting for the train to our hotel when a young man with a beard, green eyes, and a cap approached to us, asking for a USB-C charger. I took out my charger and lent it to him while we waited for the train, and we talked for a few minutes. At some point (while he was talking to someone else), he accidentally dropped a bottle of blue Gatorade. I bent down to give him his Gatorade, but he gave it to me. A few seconds later, the train arrived, my brother and I had to leave, and I never saw him again. I'm asking for y'all's help to find him. His kindness meant so much to me, that I had to hold back tears when I boarded the train. I took a photo of the Gatorate bottle just minutes after which is the only proof that I have

Fibre/fiber cutting consequences

When a fibre line gets cut, say by an employee, and it causes a mass outage, is this a fireable offence?

If something is done to cause mass outages, what are the consequences like? Whether it’s done by an employee of the wifi provider or by someone random?

I’m asking as someone who was just affected by the province wide Cogeco outage! Just curious as to what happens to those responsible?

Discussion Paradox of the internet

I've been wondering about this recently and wonder if anyone agrees. We live in a world where almost everyone is very interconnected and has the ability to talk to anyone instantaneously. Yet, at least in my irl social space, most people don't seem too keen on using this global social web to make actual friends, and unfortunately I also fall into this category. I don't know why but I have a very averse attitude to trusting people I meet online enough to call them "friends". I have a (relatively mild) past with being scammed/phished online, and recently got into comp sci and have heard about cyber security which has amped up my vigilance. Maybe I'm too paranoid? Maybe I've taken the Mr. Robot larp too far? What do you think?

‘Plug and play’ worth it?

To cut a long and frustrating story short, I’m about to move to a new flat / apartment which doesn’t have access to fibre yet. Broadband download speeds are advertising ‘35mb’ download speeds. Companies like 3 are advertising ‘plug and play’ 4G based router thingies which have an average of 100mbs download speeds. The signal in the area phone wise is average, never full bars but there’s always something. My question is, does anyone have any experience with these 4g based WiFi machines? Is it worth buying one of those and forgoing the slow broadband?

Help Need help with internet providers

Not sure if this is even the right place to post this, but I’ve recently started having internet connection issues when gaming. Constant disconnects that seem to last a couple seconds to a few minutes. I live in Nevada in the Reno/Sparks area and use Spectrum. I’ve had the tech support come out and they have said the wiring in my building is shit and affecting my connection. They come out, do some sort of reset and leave and it works fine for a bit but always goes back to the same issues. The last tech said that they might start charging me for the visits since it’s been happening so much and the only fix is to update the wiring in the building which I doubt will be done by my apartment complex. So now I’m trying to find a new internet provider that doesn’t need to be plugged into the wall with a coaxial cable. Researching myself is a bit difficult since I don’t understand a lot of the lingo. Are there any providers that don’t need to plug into the wall and I can keep playing my matches without constantly disconnecting? Any help or recommendations are appreciated! Thank you!
