Ill be honest and admit I am not versed in Indian filmography, like at all. And after watching this movie, im ashamed to admit that.

I found this movie on a flight and I just stared at the cover of Mamooty just sitting in his chair and was enamored with it.

Finally flipped it on and wow, it was exaclty what I want from a thriller/horror movie.

The mansion is almost a character in itself, feeling both creepy and claustrophobic yet inviting and comfortable.

The acting was all around very good. I wasnt too taken by Arjun Ashokan's performance but Sidharth Bharathan was amazing and of course Mammootty steals the screen.

The music is one of my favorite parts of the film. Its almost overbearing but in a great way. I particularly love the intro scene of Mammootty where the music swells to epic proportions despite not knowing anything at all about his character yet. Its like his power is felt even if its not fully understood yet.

I also loved the underlying themes of oppression in the movie. Particularly towards the end, showing that even if an evil power is eradicated, someone else is almost surely lined up to take its place, and continue the cycle of oppression and violence.

Overall a genuinly fantastic horror/thriller. I would love to check out more Malayalam movies, particularly in this genre, as if find the mythology really fascinating. If anyone has suggestions plz let a brother know.

EDIT: I am slightly confused about how the Goblin works. Its explained that the Goblin is impersonating Potti but we find Pottis dead body, and then towards the end, the Goblin literally emerges from imposter- pottis body. Whose body was this exactly?

In terms of Thematic Depth, Authorial vision, Expressiveness, Moral complexity etc..

Coming here after watching Project Hail Mary on Amazon prime and it got me thinking why don’t we have any good sci-fi movie?? The only space movie i could recall was mission mangal or Rocketry but these were biopic…what do you guys think why don’t we ever experiment with Space/Sci-Fi

I've been thinking about the relationship between celebrities and the audiences that make their careers possible.

Many people feel that Bollywood's biggest stars rarely speak on issues affecting ordinary citizens, even when those issues dominate public discussion. Others argue that actors are entertainers, not activists, and shouldn't be expected to comment on politics or social movements.

I lean toward the view that public figures with enormous influence have some responsibility to speak up for democratic values and against injustice, regardless of which political party is in power. That's why I created this petition:

Most Hindi film dialogue is written to be heard, not believed. Characters say exactly what they mean, explain their feelings out loud, and never talk around anything.

But occasionally a film breaks this and the dialogue just disappears into the scene. You stop noticing it as writing and just hear two people talking.

Gullak does this every episode. Panchayat too. Masaan has stretches where you forget someone wrote these lines. And some older ones, Ijaazat, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron.

Which film or specific scene had dialogue that felt genuinely real to you? And flip side: which film's dialogue pulled you completely out of the story because it sounded too written?

I've already watched Neymar, premalu, lokah and Alappuzha Gymkhana, and really enjoyed both. Now I'm looking for more good Naslen K. Gafoor movies, preferably ones that are available with Hindi dubbing.

Which movies would you recommend next? Looking for something entertaining with good comedy, feel-good vibes, or a solid story.

National awards misfires this decade. Mentioning year in which movie was censored.

2021:

Alia for Gangubai? really? She was a misfit and though she tried her best, her performance was somewhere between good to very good. Nothing more.

Also Gangubai for screenplay? LOL.

Kriti was also merely very good in Mimi.

I'd say Kangana in Thalaivii and Vidya in Sherni were better. But this is probably one of the weakest years for female performances.

Lot of outrage about Allu Arjun receiving the National Award for Pushpa. But he was excellent in the movie, even if movie was not.

But yeah, they should have shared the award between him and Vicky Kaushal for Sardar Uddham.

2022:

Karthikeya2 for best Telugu film. Over Sita Ramam? Absolute joke. Sita Ramam is a much better picture.

Sita Ramam not receiving any other award is also horrendous - could've won for cinematography, music, direction, costume (Sheetal Sharma), music director (Vishal Chandrasekhar)

PS1 over Vikram for best Tamil film? Come on!

2023:

Bhagavanth Kesari receiving best Telugu film award over Hi Nanna (or even Balagam) is a joke. The other 2 are much better movies.

Shahrukh Khan receiving best actor award for Jawan is a joke. It was a run of the mill performance. SRK himself has done MUCH better in many other films (Kal Ho Na Ho, Veer Zaara, Swades, Baazigar etc. to name a few). Prithvi should've won this for Aadujeevitam (Goat Life). He was significantly better than Vikrant Massey in 12th Fail also. So no sharing here.

Baby film winning best screenplay is also a joke.

The Kerala Story winning award for best cinematography? LOLLLLL! Hi Nanna should've won it.

Also best director? Really? There were other movies with better direction for sure.

Best "Wholesome Entertainment" or Popular Film picks: Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) ? Sure bro! LOL!

2024:

Karthik Aryan receiving for Chandu Champion? Smh. At best, he was very good, nothing more. Randeep Hooda was way better in Veer Savarkar. He should've been the one sharing it with Mammotty for Bramayugam.

Raayan for best Tamil film is a joke considering Maharaja and Meiyazhagan are much better movies.

Pushpa2 winning award for best screenplay is beyond laughable.

No awards for Manjummel Boys? Smh.

Sexuality is not related to memory. If someone has memory loss they are not going to forget their sexual preferences.

I still think the movie is great and making him investigate the case works but only the fact that he forgot his sexuality is kind of weird to me. And I do understand that for its time it is considered brace for actor to portray such role.

As a straight guy, if I had memory loss, I am not going to forget which sex I am attracted to. Maybe to whom, but not the entire gender.

The movie should have chosen either to be mystery movie or movie about exploring sexuality.

Becuase maybe there is a argument on someone with memory loss, trying to accept his sexuality. But that's not plot twist. Specially when entire movie is from his perspective.

I saw this movie as a kid on my family laptop. I don’t remember the actors. Or the movie name. Or anything major. What i do remember is the ending some scenes. The movie was set in a college. (Maybe engineering) where there is some rumour of a ghost. I’m not sure about this following fact.. but i think Some students didn’t go home in holidays and stayed at the hostel . And then things happened. They were chased by something because i do remember them running with a footage camera style scene. And they were hiding too. At the end it is revealed there is no ghost but one of them only. A guy who read the rumoured ghost student’s diary and became obsessed with it. And started doing all this . I think some of them were killed too. But see i am not sure about a lot of things i mentioned here but the ending i am sure about. It was too shocking to forget. Please help me find this movie . I have tried googling and even chat gpt. But same movies with similar plots come up (example-404 error not found) but not the movie i am looking for

Funny how I suddenly remembered this song after what happened in delhi today.

I don’t know it’s just me or everyone , OTT series of prakash Jha is so substandard in dubbing, cinematograph etc, in every 5 minute you loss track first it was Ashram and now Sankalp.

With the verdict on The Odyssey now out, I think it's safe to say that Nolan can do no wrong, despite the movie having some issues, it's still a great watch and an even better IMAX experience and for all we know, he still hasn't hit his peak. The master of large scale cinematic experiments has done it again! His debut film "Following" isn't easily available to stream in #india so it remains unranked for now. With the Nolan stating that his next film is at least 3 years away and this time he might actually explore the horror genre, here's my take on the ranking of his filmography.
