Question Hey, so apparently you can steal techs with espionage in this game? How does that work?

Ok so, having done some googling, most people seem to be using espionage as a way to get rid of disloyal characters. However, both the wiki and some comments on some posts mention an event chain that gives you an innovation. How often does this happen? Espionage is about 4 innovations in, so if you started off the game grabbing it, could you get more than 4 over the course of the game? Also, is there a reliable way to trigger this? Given how valuable techs are in this game, I imagined this would be extensively documented, but I can't find much more.

Question (Invictus) Carthage renamed to Punic League?

Image of Punic League

Is there any historical precedence to the name? I've never heard of it before so it took me by surprise.

They were renamed after I took Carthago, so clearly to do with that. I'm abit confused, as when I first did a failed Rome playthrough, I was able to take Carthago but they were never renamed. Maybe it's because I took Carthago this time in the First Punic War?

Edit: Turns out Virtual Limes adds this feature. I forgot I added it before I started this playthrough, whoops.

Dev Diary (mod) Chronicles of Omniluxia Dev Diary/Call for Testers

Hello everyone, it's Zorgo on behalf of the entire team, with a brand new look at what's been going on with the total fantasy conversion mod for Chronicles of Omniluxia (Steam). It has been roughly two years since an update has come out and we are getting very close to releasing the next one, but that brings us to the point of today's post; we are looking for some testers to help us with balancing and fine tuning some of the new gameplay systems and mission trees we have made. We have been running tests ourselves but are looking for some feedback before we release, so if you are interested, here is a link to our Discord server.

And before I get the ball rolling with today's update, I am going to share one more link - Chronicles of Omniluxia Wiki . The wiki has been recently updated and is being refreshed alongside the content we are adding to the game, making it the definitive source of the world's lore. There is a staggering amount of backstory that has shaped the map and the relationships between nations, and you could easily spend hours reading about the important characters that exist at game start or the recent history of a certain country, so have fun checking it out.

We are planning to write some more dev diaries in the near future that will take an in-depth look at all of the new content we have added to the mod, but instead of doing a deep dive today, we are going to tease a bunch of random new content. Let's start with missions. The new update will have two kinds of missions; 1) custom mission trees available to certain tags, like the brand-new tree for the Nazani Empire, and 2) new types of generic mission trees available to cultures/governments/characters with special traits. And by generic trees, I mean trees that are like “The Pearl of…” and “The Matter of…” missions in vanilla, those repeating missions that focus on a region or province and randomly spawn once you have met some criteria. We will take a quick peek at the new generic “Trade Mission” that will send you and your fleets to friendly foreign ports, where adventures and profits await you if you’re lucky.

So what does a trade mission need? A friendly-ish country within diplomatic range that has a port with a market. From this thinnest of foundations, you’ll assign an envoy responsible for taking care of every aspect of the trip from that point forward; someone who is in charge of establishing good relations with your trading partner, who will exchange gifts with the local officials and rulers, a person making sure that the paperwork has been filled out and contracts have been insured. This envoy will become the admiral of a fleet that has to dock in a foreign port with a market, with randomized events to describe what happens there during this trade meeting, and then once your cargoes have been loaded aboard your ships, you’ll sail home to count your profits.

It's very hot in the deserts of Baetep this time of year, so be sure to dress accordingly.
You will have to provision your fleet, negotiate harbor rights, and physically travel to a foreign market, where event chains and other surprises await you every time.
Whether or not you want to establish permanent trading connections will be up to you.

Another fun generic tree will be available to migratory tribes, where you will be encouraged to do the very thing that you are known for - migrating and pillaging the lands of your neighbors. Only now, you will have a dynamic incentive for doing so, one that rewards you for being on the move.

There are also generic missions available to you if your ruler has certain traits, which has been fun to play around with - the idea of mission trees for characters instead of mission trees for nations. Vampires will be able to terrorize provinces that they own in order to boost their own powers. The second row of their mission tree has ten terrible tasks that you can unleash upon the people, but you can only pick three before the other ones bypass, so choose wisely - some tasks will boost certain traits and skills, but the maluses are usually added to the province’s capital.

Your people will hate you, but they will fear you...

Let’s move on to two systems that are interconnected; the items system and the city system. Characters in the game, including your ruler and people of importance like governors and generals, will be able to equip items that can be found on adventure chains and/or purchased at markets.

The new button next to the character will reveal their inventory. Players will be able to visit certain buildings, like markets, and interact with them. There is so much I want to say about the item system right now, but we will have to wait. To tide you over, here is a quick list of things that are currently implemented.

Each culture produces its own items, and the better the “quality” of the city - the more buildings it has, the more pops it has, the more civilization level it has etc etc etc - the better the quality of the items in the stores. You can visit the cities of friendly countries and shop in their markets and buy their items. Want to play tall and just travel around to different cities and see what their markets are rolling? You can absolutely do so. Each culture will make items that benefit their levy composition, so elven countries with a lot of archers will sell items that benefit archer troops, fighting in forest terrain, and so on.

AI Grombar conquered the Nazani Empire with items he equipped on himself. Every year, an AI character will travel to its best market, and if it can afford to buy personal equipment, then it will.

Not every city can be visited - it will need some sort of building that you can interact with, but if it does, then you'll see this icon appear next to a character that is physically there. All sorts of cool interactions are possible now; you can send a governor from the borders of your empire to your capital city to train at the Magic Academy, or you can visit a tavern in a foreign city and gamble away your gold there. You can even visit hostile or occupied cities - you might be at war with your neighbor, but when passing through their lands, you can barter for food outside of their walls at higher prices. There's a lot you can do!

Dynamic localization for each city you visit, whether it is a backwater or a world city.
Buildings you construct will give your characters flavorful things to do.

As I mentioned, the AI will equip themselves with the best weapons and armor that they can afford, and the AI can also use the same magic systems I am about to show you. A quick AI shout out, since we are teasing AI stuff - Anbeeld has graciously allowed us to use his Advanced AI improvements for Invictus in Omniluxia, so the AI is a much different animal than it once was. We have already seen greatly improved AI behavior in our own tests and can't wait for everyone to see how much better it is. But now it's time to reveal another new mechanic; the magic system.

The blue magic icon next to "Visit City" allows me to cast spells on this unit, the blue icon below shows what spells are currently active on this unit.

You’ll notice the three new icons that are now next to our character; Inventory, City, Magic. A character can Study Magic via a character interaction (build a Magic Academy first!) and train to unlock new spells in different schools of magic. Four schools of magic, four tiers of spells to learn as you rise through the ranks. It can take between 17-25 years in game to learn all of the spells, and that's only if you don't die or something crazy happens to you.

Different schools of magic to learn, plus ancestor or folk magic that races have, and Divine Blessings are national spells that you can cast over your entire realm
There are a lot of spells to learn. Spells can be cast in battle, in sieges, on provinces, on characters, on yourself, and even on land and sea units.

Below we can see the updated battle interface, with icons allowing us to cast spells against the enemy unit or on our own troops. If you have items that you can use in battle or if you feel like equipping something fancy, like an artifact, you will have the option to do so…but keep in mind that if your ruler dies while wielding an artifact, it’s lost forever, and there is a 25% chance that the enemy army will find it themselves. More details in a future dev diary.

And there is something else I want to show you, a new continent in the east, a new world with new religions, races, military traditions…but this is only a teaser developer diary, I'm supposed to be asking for testers to come play all of this content and help us polish it up. All of this awesome stuff needs to be fine-tuned before its imminent release, so please let us know if you are willing to do so - just send us a message in the Discord and we will set you up. Thanks for reading and talk soon!

Not every part of the eastern continent is playable, but there are a lot of interesting and cool things happening over in the new world.

Question (Invictus) Are rebellions supposed to occur so often?

This is my first time playing a Paradox Game (I'm using Invictus mod). Before starting my playthrough, I checked a guide to get familiar with the game mechanics, and have been quite successful.

I am playing as Rome in normal difficulty. I am following the game missions, so far I have unified Italy (including Sicily and Cisalpine Gaul), conquered the Mediterranean coast in Hispania and conquered Carthage. I had an aggressive expansion of around 40, but have managed to lower it to 15 by investing on techs that minimise aggressive expansion and war exhaustion. My stability is always in the 45-55% range though.

The issue

The gameplay loop has been very fun until I started conquering land in Africa. I can manage character loyalty pretty easily, but privinces are constantly revolting, having 2-3 rebellions at the same time. I can suppress them with my armies, even while I hold a war with a minor nation, but I feel that I'm no longer having fun playing the game. I like to roleplay, but I often end up skipping events so that I can end ongoing revolts.

What I tried

I have read many tips online on what to do to mitigate rebellions but it's not making a difference. I have currently 4 integrated cultures, use harsh treatment when necessary, and I appoint non-corrupt governors. I have started spamming great temples and theaters, but there is a limit to how many I can build with a monthly income of 35 gold (I have 1 of them in each province, both if the province is very troublesome).

Questions

Is there anything that can be done about them, or are rebellions suppossed to happen this often?

Some other questions I have are: Does using levies impact local happiness? Is integrating more cultures counterproductive?

Barely managed to form Assyria from Adiabene. Mostly used entice governor to take Seleucid provinces one by one and only attacked Armenia when they were in the middle of a civil war. I'm still a Seleucid tributary and afraid to break off because of -100 relations. Is there any better strategy for Assyria or this is it?

Question Refined UI (2.0.5) removes the "Give Up Claims" diplomatic action

Hi everyone,

I'm using Imperator: Rome 2.0.5 with the Refined UI (2.0.5) mod.

I'm having a strange issue: the "Give Up Claims" diplomatic action completely disappears from the diplomacy menu. It doesn't appear under any category.

Here's what I've already tried:

  • Disabled every other mod and ran only Refined UI.
  • Verified that my game version is 2.0.5.
  • The mod's descriptor also says supported_version="2.0.5".
  • Searched through the mod files for anything related to "give up claims" or "claim" and couldn't find anything replacing or removing that action.
  • Compared the GUI files and found that the mod replaces diplomatic_view.gui, but I couldn't identify what is hiding the action.

Has anyone experienced this? Is this a known bug with Refined UI, or is there another file I should check?

Any help would be appreciated.

Question (Invictus) Struggling for food in Latium

All year round, Latium ends up with a lack of food - enough to cause starvation in winter. How can this be mitigated?

This is my first playthrough so I apologise if I've missed an obvious mechanic XD

Images attached show how many Granaries I have - I assumed that they are most important, but I'm still struggling when half the buildings in most cities are granaries. I did create cities in every tile in Latium - I'm wondering if maybe settlements produce more food? Since these issues started after I begun to expand my borders drastically and urbanise Latium quite quickly, since I thought cities meant you can tax more people with a greater population, which must be good?

I put the province on Encourage Trade for a little while but it didn't seem to help much.

Buildings in Rome
Buildings in Ostia
Buildings in Veii
My cursed Roman Republic in 42CE... this hurts to look at even more than the thousands of people starving in Rome.

Question Help with crashing

I have a new PC, and for whatever reason sometimes when a save happens the game completely crashes. I verified file integrity on steam and went through and combined my local files of the game too. Anyone know how to fix this? This has happened with other paradox games as well.
Any thing helps!
Thanks :)

Question (Invictus) How does "inbred" hereditary trait work?

I'm filling out my bloodlines pokedex at the moment, and I saw that ptolemaios II had a fifth kid, one with the inbred trait. Considering that he starts the game married to his sister, I'm only surprised I just now saw the trait exists

I'm wondering if that inbred trait is acquired through exclusively brother-sister marriages or does any relation count? I have 11 bloodlines married in, including my starting one and not including 2 in sparta which are being chaste. I'm wondering if I need to dilute the bloodpool for few generations, or if my heir-of-heir can marry my sixthborn without consequence

No, this is not a joke post, I'm trying to make a character with a trait menu that goes off the screen

Maybe I'm just bad at assimilation, but it seems like Rome and the Ptolemies can assimilate anything in just 20 years. How do they actually do it?

Question Best Greek state for a new player?

I bought the game because I love Greece in antiquity. Have about 20 hours and just finished the tutorial. I felt like it was fine but left a lot to be desired as far as teaching me anything other than the basic mechanics. I feel like I kind of have a grasp on the basic stuff, but there’s certainly a lot of things that just happened and I didn’t really have the clue why it happened. From what I’ve seen Invictus is a must have, so I’ll be playing with that as well.

At the start of the tutorial I expanded really rapidly, taking most of Italy, Carthage, and part of Greece before falling into a brutal civil war. After that was settled I expanded more slowly, but after I googled the end date I sped up my conquests. While I only suffered the one civil war, I did become hampered by my provinces constantly revolting, even ones that had been under my rule since the early game. I’m assuming that had a lot to do with low stability from a half century of constant expansion before the end of the game. I also don’t think I ever properly integrated any province outside of Rome.

Also, I have no idea how the economy works. I just picked the imports with the highest value, and tried conquering more provinces. My gold would fluctuate pretty heavily depending on the year. By the end game I was making enough to support 80k in legions + a navy, which I needed because a province was revolting yearly.

Imperator: Rome Mod Editor (Work in Progress)

I've been modding Imperator: Rome for quite a while, and during that time I put together a wishlist of features that would make modding much easier. That inspired me to start building this tool.

The goal is simple: make Imperator: Rome modding so easy that anyone can do it, while making the process up to 100× faster than editing files by hand.

Features

WORKS WITH ANY MOD

Edit almost everything from one program.

No digging through game files.

No constantly moving files in and out of your game.

Edit countries, provinces, maps, borders, and much more through a graphical interface.

Change province ownership or borders with a single click.

Designed to make creating and maintaining mods much faster and easier.

Current Status

The project is still a work in progress, and not every feature is complete yet.

Question What Form of Wonder Best Matches Jerusalem's Second Temple? The "Naos" Base Form Has an Idol.

I am playing the Vanilla version of Imperator: Rome with the Heirs of Alexander DLC that lets you build wonders. Imperator: Rome opens with Jerusalem having no Temple or Wonder, and I would like to build a Wonder corresponding to the Second Temple. So I need to decide what base model, roof materials, and powers to give my Wonder.

If I go to build a wonder with the Heirs of Alexander DLC, I get a max of 9 wonder models. Out of those 9 models, the closest models I think to the Second Temple are the Naos (Greek temple) model with a big idol and the Mauseloum model.

The "Naos" form of Wonders best corresponds to the structure of temples, as "Naos" means Temple. But Imperator's "Naos" model has an open space in the middle with a giant idol statue, which Jerusalem's Temple lacked and would be banned by Judaism. I guess that I could pretend that it's a priest. But it looks a lot more like a statue.

Another model is the Mausoleum, and it has no big idol in the middle. But it still looks like a big tomb, like the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus and like the Tomb of Alexander in Egypt.

Discussion (Invictus) Finally formed my first legion in my Rome run and now I'm not even sure it was the right call

Long Rome run on Invictus. This session I finally passed the Punic reforms and made my first actual legion. Legio Italia. Felt like a big deal, you get siege engineers, sub commanders that can pick up distinctions over time, way more control over the composition than levies. Game even gives you a "new era has begun" popup so it really sells it as this milestone.

Thing is, right before that I went to war with Boii (tiny one province nation) plus some barbarians that showed up, and I was so relaxed about it I didn't even bother raising my army maintenance. Total brain fart. Went in with cold troops and still stomped them, barely lost anyone. So then I turn around, pass the reforms, take a 15 stability hit, do a divine sacrifice just to get some of it back, and pick up the ongoing legion upkeep... for what exactly? My levies just handled everything fine while I wasn't even paying attention.

I think I just did it because it felt like the "proper" thing to do at that point in a Rome game, not because anything actually forced my hand. And the annoying part is the thing that SHOULD have had my attention was Carthage, who went and annexed most of Massaesilia while I was busy fiddling with unit ratios. They're sitting at like 2000+ pops right on my border now. So I basically played dress up with my army and let the actual monster next door get scary.

Anyway I'm curious when you all actually make the jump to legions. Soon as you unlock it like I did, or do you wait until you've got a specific war that needs the siege engineers and the extra control? Because in hindsight I think I went professional a bit early and turtled way too long on Carthage, and I can't tell if that's a real mistake or just me being paranoid.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide on how to play clan? I don’t know what I’m looking at really but the man eaters in Russia caught my eye. Played Rome no problem. It’s the clan mechanics I’m unsure of.

Screenshot is from our last Punic War scenario! I was Rome and let's say the 2nd and 3rd Punic War got pretty intense!

Carthage was a beast with an insane economy, massive navy, more mercs than Melqart, and elephants.. so many elephants..

I did have the benefit of player-allies in Veneto and Illyria, but the competing Macedons were constantly meddling in my affairs. Not to mention a very good player on Arvernian League, things ended with a bang!

We'll be hosting another Western Mediterranean campaign but with no scenario set up in mind. Feel free to join us tomorrow 12 July 2026 from 17:00 UTC until 21:00 UTC. We are an RP focused server so if you're worried about skill level no worries at all! We all teach each other something new about the game each week :)

Question (Invictus) Difference between Mithraic and Zoroastrian religions?

What is the actual difference between Mithraic and Zoroastrian religion? Both are Persian, Mithraic has Persian rulers as deified monarchs, both has Mithras/Mithra in pantheon.
