No hate to the stylists of both the productions but it's crazy that a budget north of 160 million usd can't acquire good wigs.

Lore/World Discussion Why did Snow help Katniss understand Coin in the end?

Was being bested by Coin such a hit to his ego that he would do anything to undermine her? To me, if he hated the districts/rebels so much a worse fate for them would be to fall under another totalitarian dictatorship (exactly what Coin planned to implement post-war). So why help Katniss solve the problem (kill Coin before she would be out of reach)? Without Snow’s disclosure of the bombing of the children/Prim she likely wouldn’t have reacted so quickly to Coin’s suggestion of a ā€œsymbolic Hunger Gamesā€ (reacted = arrow in the chest to Coin from Katniss xoxo). In a way Snow caused the best possible outcome for the rebellion with the election of Commander Paylor. Why give the rebels such an opportunity, he played the game well and I find it hard to believe that he didn’t see his final gambit as something that could possibly help the rebellion and districts, (broader Panem be successful and equal in the future). My question remains, why?

Prequel Discussion How many tesserae do you think Louella took?

So really Louella just got me to think about the dynamics of taking tesserae in a large family. Iirc I believe the only confirmed examples we've seen in the series of kids taking tesserae are Gale and Haymitch (both only have siblings too young to reap), Rory (only has siblings too old or too young to reap), and Katniss (who does eventually have one much younger sibling in the reaping, but chooses to be the sole tesserae taler because she is very maternal and protective towards prim and their family can get by with one tesserae each). We've never seen an example of more than one sibling simultaneously taking tesserae, but we know it's possible based on what Katniss says about "not allowing" Prim to take it.

Louella has a "half dozen siblings," meaning (if that's taken literally) 9 family members total. If she took tesserae for 9 people for 2 years, then at 13 she'd have 20 slips, the same as Haymitch.

However, 3 McCoy kids are confirmed to be reaping age in SOTR. Taking out 9 tesserae a year for 7 years would massively increase any one kid's chances, so in large families do you think it's common to split up the tesserae, perhaps with in this example each kid taking it for 3 family members? Or, maybe the oldest kid of reaping age at any given time is just the one to draw tesserae for everyone because the amounts accumulate, so it's better to draw when you're older and have the slips stick to you for less years (and possibly also put of a desire to protect their younger siblings like Katniss).

Of course, some families might be desperate enough that they do need to have multiple kids drawing tesserae for all the family members at the same time, and this especially might be true for large families. Typically in poor societies more children means more mouths to feed, so kids work to offset this. However, in district 12 kids aren't allowed to work in the mines at all, which, horribly enough, means the only "work" kids can do to help feed themselves is... enter their name in the death drawing. A pretty devious way for the capital to twist the knife further, and might honestly be the reason why the capital chooses not to let kids work in the mines, even though irl there's lots of mining tasks can be performed by children easier than adults due to their size.

So what do you guys think?

Memes/Fun posts Thinking about this scene always makes me laugh

That scene from Mockingjay part 2 where Boggs and Katniss are having that secret conversation about Coin’s plans for her and he tells her, ā€œI’m planning on you living a long life,ā€ or something along those lines. And then she asks, ā€œwhy? You don’t owe me anything,ā€ and he replies, ā€œbecause you’ve earned it.ā€ It’s a really emotional moment, etc.
But wouldn’t it be funny if she got offended and said, ā€œYeah, by killing people!ā€

Prequel Discussion Asterid having the exact same reaction to the reaping of a loved one 24 years later is devastating

Like the exact same shocked, distant kind of expression that foreshadows how she'll react when Burdock dies in the mine explosions. At first I wondered why they didn't show her having a more outwardly emotional reaction (she looks...almost unbothered), but the silent unresponsiveness is so suiting for her character. The actresses did a great job with this!

šŸTBOSAS Is TBOSAS being my favorite book in the series an unpopular opinion? Spoiler

Just to clarify, I don’t mean it’s the best book/best written. I mean in the context that it is MY favorite book in the series and I enjoyed it the most which seems to be an unpopular take.

I finished it about a month ago and it was the book I read last due to it being longer than the rest. I was so pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the story and that it was written in third person. I really liked being in Snow’s head as he had the most unhinged thoughts.

After browsing online after I saw a lot of people’s rankings of TBOSAS and it was usually last or 4th in their ranking and I haven’t seen anyone rank it as their favorite.

So, if TBOSAS is your favorite can you say why it is?
And if it’s at the bottom for you, I’m also curious why!

The film has moved beyond post production and appears to have reached a major production milestone.

This does not necessarily mean every final delivery or promotional element is finished, but it could bring us closer to official posters, new teaser material and further updates.

Prequel Discussion Was there any hope for Coryo?

Post image
285 Upvotes

Taking into account all of what happened in TBoSaS, do we think there could have been a set of circumstances during or after the book events that could have led him to become good/not evil?

The book especially shows us that he is at his core selfish and prioritizes his own benefit before everything—traits that influence all his decisions. He seems to be this way because of an eat-or-be-eaten dominance mindset he built up to cope with the traumatic events going on around him. Throughout the story, he gets introduced to differing views of human morality, eventually landing on an even more screwed up level of his sociopathic dom energy.

But do you think there could have been a possible alternate storyline where Coryo eventually became a good guy?

If so, I think it would begin with Dr. Gaul slipping on her head at the reaping ceremony.

Lore/World Discussion Questions

Hi! I just started this movie series for the first time ever. i’m not even halfway through and very confused lol. How does the reaping work?? Is it like maze runner where they kinda kidnap you and force you into it?? Why is everyone okay with this? Does it explain this all later and i’m just impatient? (i’m a movie talker if you can’t tell). I just got past the part where Katniss goes after Peeta for saying he had a crush on her on the interview part. If i need to just shut up and watch just say thatšŸ˜…šŸ˜…

Trilogy Discussion So did the Star Squad die for nothing?

I just finished reading the original trilogy and I watched the movies right after and a thought prevailed in my head throughout the end of Mockingjay, Did the star squad die for nothing?

The whole mission was to assassinate Snow and supposedly everyone knew it wasn't a rebel mission and were just following Katniss on her personal quest, and little by little they almost all die off including Finnick, and although that's alright since they knew they were sacrificing themselves to give Katniss the chance to kill Snow, but when they get there, the rebels are already fighting to get into the mansion and the remainder of the squad to my best knowledge doesn't really do anything to influence that outcome, Katniss gets the opportunity to kill Snow but days later after the rebels capture him.

So my question is, did I miss anything? Did the Star squad do something that helped the rebel effort in getting snow or was the mission really just useless? I generally liked the ending but this is the only thing that's wracking my brain right now, noone acknowledges it and I feel like I missed a page or something

Lore/World Discussion What rules were implemented over the years of the games?

So Ive read the OG trilogy, read SOTR and couldnt finish Balald. I dont really remember much if this was mentioned, but what were some of the rules you think were introduced into the games over the years as a result of the Capitol learning from past mistakes of past games?

šŸ–‹ļø FanFiction Looking for a now deleted fanfic trilogy

I am looking for the second and third stories of the hunger games trilogy by MovieJunkie66 on Fanfic.net (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2829493/Moviejunkie66) Burning Desires (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9917910/1/Burning-Desires) and A Rebel's Flame (I don't think this ever got completed and I don"t have a url for it).

The first 3 chapters of Burning Desires are on the archive.org 2016 back up as a text file, with chapters 1 & 13 on the Wayback machine and I have the first book of the series saved (These Game We Play) but somehow missed books 2 and 3. Looks like they were taken down some time before Oct 2018.

I am hoping someone downloaded a copy while they were available. I already asked on r/deletedfanfiction but they did not have an archive.

Trilogy Discussion Fan Theories on Victor ā€œTALENTS?ā€

Alright. My question comes from Catching Fire.

In CF Katniss mentions that the Capitol required victors to have a talent? This is a marketable pass time I guess for the capitol to ingest as approved media??

From what we know is Peeta’s was art and he painted Hunger Games images. Katniss went with dress making and fashion although it was really Cinna’s.

What do you think these talents could be in Panem? Is every victor required to have one? We know the games changed over the years so when was it adapted? Why doesn’t Haymitch have one?

Most importantly what could they do? Cooking, Baking, instrumental music like playing the violin? What would the Capitol allow and not allow?

For example careers…. What is their talent? If they were raises for the games especially you mean to tell me they are going to write Capitol approved books? Or simply were they all ā€˜sold’ like Finnick? Did Finnick have a talent?

PSA: I’M ASKING SO MANY QUESTIONS BECAUSE AFTER 5 BOOKS THIS PORTION HAS LEFT ME WITH SO MANY QUESTIONS
