This is my dream come true

I knew Bailey was the right pup for me & Dodger as soon as I saw him. Then we did a meet & greet at the rescue, it went great. I was convinced they’d be best friends immediately. Until I brought Bailey home.

I remember my first walk with both my boys together, my older boy Dodger & my then little but now giant boy Bailey. We made it about a block before Bailey made eye contact with Dodger & Dodger angrily howled full force at his audacity. I fell. We did not laugh. We went home & did not try again for a bit. Dodger often refused to leave the bedroom because he wanted to be away from Bailey (who was shockingly respectful of Dodger’s space as a puppy). I even broke down one day & cried like did I literally ruin Dodger’s life???

Bailey’s only a year & a half now, still a puppy even though an unusually calm puppy, so Dodger still gets annoyed by him. They get into arguments sometimes, not fights but arguments. But eventually Dodger came around (Bailey loved him on day one lol). It took A LOT of work on my part & it took Bailey growing up a bit too but here we are. Living the dream.

I’m just sitting here on the couch between my boys & feeling so grateful. I hoped Dodger & Bailey would be friends. They ended up brothers.

Any guesses on breed?

This is Clark :) He is new to us but about 18 months old, 50 lbs, and originally found in TN. We know he is some kind of hound and maybe has some pointer in him as well. He is very scent-oriented but will also stop and point at rabbits/squirrels/birds. He loves people and other dogs but is a little shy. He bays but isn’t super vocal. His favorite things to do are rip up cardboard boxes, sniff, and cuddle at night. He is soooo stubborn.

Would love any guesses on what you think he is!!

in a very roundabout way, she is over 70% hound! with some other stuff thrown in there… dalmatian ?!!!?!

we adopted her three months ago! she was picked up by animal control as a six month old baby wandering in the woods by herself. at now nine months old she has put on twenty pounds, found her voice (lol), and learned so much! she is very very smart and almost equally as stubborn. she loves to be naughty on purpose. she has a super sniffer and will tree anything she can. on our walks she keeps sneaking up on birds without me noticing until she’s almost grabbed it! she has been doing great in her obedience classes and knows a lot of tricks. i am considering trying to figure out how to hunt so i can do that with her but i have no idea where to start!!

we have been guessing her possible lineage like crazy over these past few months so i’m very excited to be able to say for sure that she is a hound (and a hound, and a hound, and a hound, and a…)

This is Lady! When we rescued her as a pup, we were told she was a redbone/beagle mix. Does this seem accurate? We’re just curious as to what everyone else thinks.

Has anyone had a non-brachycephalic dog with a hiatal hernia?

My 2-year-old Foxhound mix has struggled with recurrent aspiration pneumonia and was eventually diagnosed with a hiatal hernia on a swallow study. She recently had a laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair with gastropexy.

I'm hoping to hear from anyone whose dog (especially a non-brachycephalic breed) has gone through something similar. Did the surgery eventually stop the aspiration? How long did recovery take? If your dog had coughing or pneumonia shortly after surgery, did it end up meaning the repair failed, or was it just part of the recovery process?

We'd just love to hear any long-term experiences.

I’m starting her on Prozac today and I don’t know why I feel like I’m doing something wrong

My girl is 2 1/2 and she’s had pretty bad noise anxiety for over a year now. I enrolled her in a training program that lasted months, I try masking the noise at home, I’ve tried a bunch of things but unfortunately I live in a noisy suburban neighborhood and can’t afford to move just yet.

I finally spoke with her vet about trying Prozac to see about lowering her baseline. Because her goofy normal self does come out at random times during the day. But otherwise, if she hears a truck drive by she’ll run under the couch and stay there for hours.

Sometimes she doesn’t eat because she’s so nervous. I have to put something high value in it to make it more enticing and in the mornings I have to run the sink to drown out any potential traffic or planes flying overhead.

She doesn’t spend all day shaking and trembling, mostly just tail tucked and very alert so she can be ready to run and hide. I know that this is a logical next step in trying to help her (and making training like desensitization easier), but I feel like I’m about to… ruin her?

I’m nervous. Any feedback based on your hounds’ experiences would be very appreciated. ❤️

Beagle Mix

We just adopted this handsome boy from a rescue - any thoughts as to what adult size is likely to be? The rescue listed his estimated DOB as May 15th but that seems pretty recent to me. He’s currently 22 lbs and about 15 inches tall (of note, he’s gained about 3 lbs in the last week or so). His paperwork said beagle mix - any insights are greatly appreciated! I included a paw and teeth picture if that’s helpful. We’re taking him to the vet next week, so I imagine we’ll have some answers then.

Best spray to keep dogs from biting

My 7 month American Foxhound has started biting furniture and I need to find a specific apartment to get him to stop. I tried the bitter spray but he likes that. He also likes biting me sometimes, so if I could gat a spray that stops that that would be awesome!

Hello, I've adopted this pup in a refuge when he was 8 months old. They told us he was a beagle mixed with another dog but they didn't know which one

He is quite tall, very playful with other dogs and affectionate towards humans

I'm thinking maybe english pointer x beagle or a red tick American coonhound

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you!

At two and a half, one of her favorite things to do when she’s feeling mischievous/hyper is to steal clothes and shoes that she knows she shouldn’t. :)
