Show Spoilers Aemonds role Spoiler

Upvotes

I just realized, we have (hopefully) 13 more episodes of this show, 11 if next season has 8 episodes as well. According to what happens in fire and blood in combination with vhagar seemingly burning the riverlands by himself in the show instead of with aemond, what the hell is aemond going to be doing for the rest of the show before the battle over the gods eye? In my eyes, and I think in the eye of most people, daemon and aemond are the main draws to the show. They do the cool stuff, they make the difference for each side where it counts. Even though i dislike Aemond heavily, I would say that his actor has done the best job portraying his character out of any of them as well as being the character that was least assasinated from fire and blood. Is aemond essentially just going to be around having dreams for the rest of the series like daemon did? If so, wow.

Show Spoilers Helaena's vision of Aemond Spoiler

Post image
Upvotes

Alicent: Aemond still lives, as far as we know.

Helaena: He is at Harrenhall.

Alicent: No, he was there, but he has fled. He's vanished.

Helaena: I have seen him. He burns, but without fire.

Thoughts?

Discussion I don’t understand Criston Cole hate

Upvotes

I’m not saying you can’t dislike a character, but the level of vitriol and fervor people have towards him doesn’t make sense to me considering that he is no worse than other male character in the series and, in fact, in my respects is better than many of the other characters.

What confuses me is how Criston Cole, who’s transgressions are mostly being rude ass hypocrite is taken as more of an afront than male characters we’ve seen literally bash their wife’s skull in on screen lol. Like yes, he called Rhaenyra a cunt and slept with Alicent despite it going against his supposed morals but Daemon is beloved despite choking Rhaenyra last season and grooming her as a literal child. I find it odd that many of the fans claim they hate Criston because of his misogyny but once again, he has exhibited far less overt misogyny and violence against women than one of the favored male characters in the show?

It seems to me people don’t like Criston solely because he’s a man that’s hypocritical and rude, rather than actually being against misogynistic or “incel” behavior. I mean, I hate to beat the point over the head (pun intended) but whose more of a vengeful incel, the dude that called a girl a cunt or the man who chokes and kills women and molests little girls?…and I’m not saying people can’t like Daemon as a character—hell I love Aemond and Aegon despite hating their actions because I like their characterization and arcs—but don’t try to stand on some moral high ground when a lot of people who hate Criston don’t actually care, but are pressed because a handsome male character is crude and didn’t side with Rhaenyra.

Also, I can’t help but roll my eyes at how a large sector of the fandom refuses to engage with Criston’s character on a deeper level because they’re so determined to dislike him. Yes he’s flawed, but so are all the characters because the writers dropped the ball on many fronts, but I do find myself feeling for his position and what he says. I think a lot of people don’t care to realize it because he’s a man, but someone of lower class who is essentially used by the wealthy in every way (physically, sexually, emotionally) can definitely lead anyone to mentally deteriorate to the point of suicidal ideation as seen in the last episode.

Criston clearly holds onto being the greatest warrior and having a hero’s death because that’s all he has—his body—it’s the only thing people value from him (whether it be in war or in bed). I can’t help but feel that if Criston’s gender was flipped and he was a non-white coded woman who had to work herself to the top, all the while being fucked on by princes and kings yall would look at his character A LOT differently.

Once again, I’m not saying anyone has to like Criston or dislike other characters but the level of hate the character gets just seems like fandom collective brainrot and fan war tribalism than actual dissection of the character.

Question Why is Helaena even a dragon rider both in the book and the show?

Dreamfyre does not do anything remotely relevant at all even in the book to justify her existence and Helaena never rides her once in the show or shows she even cares about her dragon.

The book says she loved riding her dragon as a kid then as an adult that stops and it can be justified by the tragic stuff she experiences.

The show never shows her riding her dragon as a kid either, so why bother having the dragon at all? They show Helaena as neurodivergent and it would make sense for her to be a Targaryen without a dragon and different also in that aspect.

Dreamfyre is entirely unnecessary even in the book as you could have any other female dragon be the source for Dany’s eggs. That seems the only reason why she might exist at all and it‘s something any other female dragon could have done instead.

Helaena claims her. Dreamfyre is not a dragon hatched in the cradle, so this means she was interested in claiming her, but then she never even has a thought about her dragon?

Show should have had her and Alicent with the child trying to reach Dreamfyre to flee from King’s Landing. Would have made sense as the dragon would have made the escape a lot quicker and no one would have stopped them once they were in the sky.

At least that would have given her dragon something to do and a reason to even be mentioned; otherwise her being a dragon rider has absolutely no purpose.

I really don’t get why GRRM made her a dragon rider at all when this has absolutely zero impact on the story he wrote. He also makes her claim a dragon who has had other riders before and this is also more reason for Helaena to have some relationship with her dragon even as an adult… why bother claiming a dragon she has no attachment to past childhood?

The show, as I said, is even worse in this regard as also as a kid Helaena never once is shown with her dragon. She has no bond at all with her dragon and her having claimed her just seems illogical.

Why would she claim a dragon she ignores completely? The show Helaena is also not impacted by the loss of her child the way the book one is and has even less of an excuse to totally disregard her dragon she wanted to claim, which is always a risky thing. She needed to have cared about this to endanger herself in the attempt to claim Dreamfyre, so for me it makes no sense how she never has a passing thought for her dragon in the show.

Just something I thought of now and that I have not seen people bring up.

Lore Team Green Pedigree

A nerd hobby I have is genealogy- both my own, those of historical figures, and those of literary characters! A Wiki of Ice and Fire is a great resource for pretty exhaustive info on members of various members of royal and noble houses mentioned in ASOIAF, Fire and Blood, and AWOIAF and makes Westerosi genealogy easy to look into. There is lots of Targ info in the source material, but the Hightowers require some guesswork (italicized in the pedigree). We don’t know who the previous Lord of the High Tower was before Otto’s brother but might assume a grandson or even great grandson of Lord Donnell (old at the start of Jaehaerys’s reign). Then we don’t know how Lord Donnel connects back to his predecessors either, but his age means he likely wasn’t a son or brother of his predecessor. HOTD made Otto’s wife a Florent, but there are no named Florents anywhere near the timeline of these characters. I think a more logical choice might have been a Redwyne or Fossoway, as we know both Houses sided with the Greens during the Dance and are prominent enough to make a suitable match. A Martell marriage at this time would have been unlikely (and a Greyjoy marriage at any time), and we know a fair bit about the other ‘Great Houses’ and their principle members during the Dance so a tie to the Queen and one of the two royal faction would presumably have been noted of Alucent’s mother came from them. Who do you think Alivent’s mother or immediate paternal forbearers might have been?

Discussion Viserys was right.

So after the recent episode Daemon was again reiterated, his plan to conquer Dorne and essos . Which honestly makes Daemon look and sound incredibly stupid. I honestly don’t know how (show) Viserys didn’t disinherit him earlier and honestly I have no dog in this fight as I pray on the downfall of house Targaryen, makes me want to see the blacks lose because of someone like daemon, like if I was a show only watch I think that would be my turning point because after the dance daemon plan is to go to war again and kill hundreds of thousand and get hundreds of thousands killed.

Question Alicent est littéralement le personnage le plus stupide et pathétique ; elle essaie encore de trouver des justifications pour que Rhaenyra ait tué le reste de sa famille au lieu de la haïr comme le ferait n'importe quelle mère normale.

Rhaenyra getting her period on the most chaotic day was so fckn funny and relatable me 😂😂😂 The fact that it ALWAYS comes on the day when you have to do something important.

Girl had a hundred tasks and she sat there in her cramps. Reminded me of my early career days.
