Hi everyone,
The r/Holden family ( r/Holden and now r/ChevySS ) has a new Discord server. This is a way to further engage in the community, and talk to like-minded people about the interests and vehicles we hold close to our hearts. The Discord is obviously not limited to just Automotive discussion, as it aims to further bring the community closer together.
You can join the new r/Holden Discord by clicking this link.
Thank you, and Take care garnier

This boot off a VT-VZ wagon caught my eye, I’ve never seen a picture of a hothouse green wagon and I imagine they’re far and few between- let alone in NZ. Shame it’s been wrecked…

A one owner Ute I picked up earlier this year. It’s a manual with the 5L v8. Previous owner got too old to drive it so it sat in his backyard for 5 years. It’s now registered and running and an awesome cruiser.

Looking at buying either a collie, rodeo or dmax with a 4jj1 motor in it, someone had told me recently that the oil filler cap test is useless on these motors as the timing chain runs under it, and that these motors are “notorious” for blowby and i wanted a second opinion.
I know most diesels HAVE blowby, but i don’t think the 4jj1 is ‘notorious’ for it.
Also are there any other random quirks i should be aware of buying a car with this powerplant?

My dad owned two GTR XU-1 Toranas back in the ‘70s. The first he sold, and the second was stolen. After that he figured that chapter of his life was closed. He never thought he’d drive one again, let alone own one.
A few weeks ago I sent him a link to a 1972 XU-1 up for auction, just thought he’d enjoy looking at it. No expectation he’d actually bid.
He bid. He won. Inspected it and decided it wasn’t right, so he passed. A few days later he calls me to tell me he’ll be in town, checking out a different 1972 GTR XU-1.
Well, 50-odd years after his last one was stolen, he’s now back behind the wheel of a car (an XU1) he thought he’d never drive again. Pretty stoked for him!

Edit: if the previous owner is in here, thank you for taking such good care of this car.
Edit 2: for the purpose of clarity, this is not one of his original cars. Updated the last paragraph.

Just got my first project car, a 1997 vt commodore executive.
Its not in too bad of a condition, however its not currently road legal in the state i live. The main issues are a leaky driverside front shock (causing tyre scrubbing) and a broken drivers seat. Any advise on what to look out for?
