Discussion I like to think Sskeer has an interest in the Old Republic's history.

Post image

My basis for his headcanon is when he yelled "Surik's Blade!" As such, a cool easter egg would be Sskeer teaching Keeve about that era and mentioning Qyzen Fess, a legendary Trandoshan hunter, and his Jedi partner, the Third Barsen'thor.

Though unlike Qyzen, I doubt Sskeer worships the Scorekeeper, the Trandoshan deity, and keeps Jagannath points because he is a Jedi. Not only do Jedi not hunt people, but Sskeer has anger issues and is afraid of hurting those he loves, so hunting people would only worsen his issues. Though I can see him being respectful of his people's culture.

Discussion Second prints

I have a list online of all the comics and their variants.
Is there a way to find all the ones that have a second printing?
Or any other printings?
I'm searching online and can't really find anything like that.
Thanks!!

Does anybody have a higher resolution version of this image? I'm trying to make transparent images of the characters, but none of them have a good enough resolution to not look weird

Discussion What Star Wars authors would you have liked to write a High Republic book?

The top of my wish list would be Delilah S. Dawson and Mike Chen. I think they'd fit the best within The High Republic style and both have a history of fun force-wielding characters. Mike Chen would have amazing at some kind of side story with Elzar and Stellan.

If they were going to do like a subsection of The High Republic that gets deeper into political maneuvering and more grounded stories, I would also kill for some James Luceno or Alexander Freed books.

And hell, let's let Timothy Zahn like a Chiss prequel trilogy set in the same time period.

Was the High Republic Star Wars initiative actually financially successful?

Now that the High Republic initiative is done, I'm curious if it was actually profitable for Lucasfilm/Disney. They seemed to push it pretty hard with all the comics, books, and shows, but I never hear about sales numbers.

Did it make money, or was it a flop?

High republic hot takes

Spoilers ahead for a year old series but I see on Reddit many people just starting LotJ so I do wana say that. I do wonder what’s everyone’s hottest take on this series. I’ll start by giving a few of my own. I honestly think Lourna should’ve killed marchion when he was trapped in rubble. Ik his ending was perfect in trials but it would’ve been such a shock if Marchion died in a “side story”. Another hot take I have is the adult books never reached the heights of phase 1 until trials. This isn’t me knocking the other adult books I don’t think any are bad but eye of darkness and temptations of the force could’ve been combined into one book imo. The phase 2 adult books aren’t awful but the plot is a lot weaker since the YA books get the main revelations. Another hot take I actually don’t think DJO is a bad writer. Hell everyone’s second favorite comic is trail of shadows also the mangas have peak moments. Also Marchion should be as glazed as thrawn if not more. Just cause his books didn’t sell 15 million copies doesn’t mean he shouldn’t get more glaze what did thrawn do find some lizards that negated the force, look at some pretty art. Now I wana know how my hot takes are complete poo do and your most out of pocket hot takes on this series.

Discussion High Republic should have been a Game

Looking back, I think keeping it to mainly books/comics except the Acolyte and young Jedi adventures was a mistake, preventing this era from being more popular.

It was wise for lucasfilm to finally give us a new era in Disney canon that has nothing to do with the Skywalker.

But it would have been better if they were inspired by the success of the Old Republic. Their is simply more of an audience for games then books.

Imagine using the phase 1 setting as a “Knights of the High Republic”. A well done rpg. No literature needed to understand this complete story. Maybe sequel games are made. After the game is released then you could do books/comics that expand the era. There was a long running KoToR comic series released after the first 2 games.

I also wouldn’t have done the Acolyte either. Of course there is even a larger audience for Star Wars Tv. Their first interaction with a High Republic would be that series, which doesn’t portray the setting that well (and set near end of era).

Sure I have heard of Star Wars Eclipse, but that was also a poor choice. Releasing a trailer to a game that isn’t even in the works yet and also probably never completing.

Unfortunately I don’t think Lucasfilm is going to invest in a new game or Tv series again for High Republic.

What are your thoughts?

So how much does a book have to sell for it to be a success?

I’ve seen people claim that 20000 copies of a 30 dollar hardback is a failure. LotJ alone in those videos sold 120-160k physical copies. TRS selling around 60k physical copies fallen star selling 36k copies and convergence selling 20k physical copies. I’d be curious how many copies the phase 3 books sold since those continued the main story. But my question is just based on those numbers those seem like successful numbers and all the Google stuff says 10k books is a very successful book. So why do people point out that convergence only sold 20k physical hc copies (not including paperbacks or digital or audio) and say that’s a failure. Plus would you expect a big drop off of like 80+% for a long running series.

Where to start?

Hi! I've been thinking about finally taking a dive into the High Republic era, which media would you recommend as a good place to start?

Discussion Here is my take on how well the High Republic would fare in the Mandalorian Wars.

In this scenario, the Nihil don't exist and its the Mandalorians who attack the Republic. Unlike the Nihil, who relied on their Path engines for striking from the shadows, the Mandalorians would be engaging in open warfare making things more difficult for the High Republic and the Jedi Order.

The Mandalorians began conquering worlds outside Republic jurisdiction in the Outer Rim systems to stockpile resources. In the Old Republic era, the Senate chose not to intervene since these planets weren't part of the Republic while the Jedi didn't help because they were still reeling from the Great Sith War with Exar Kun.

However, Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh would not be so idle and neither would the Jedi. Especially since they had experienced centuries of peace, so a hostile force conquering worlds would instantly send alarm bells ringing. Initially, Soh would send the Jedi to negotiate with the Mandalorians to leave those worlds alone, but after several failed attempts at diplomacy, with the Mandos making it clear they're not interested in talking, Soh would have no choice but to escalate.

That said, Soh's ability to respond would be limited by the fact it's non-Republic aligned planets being attacked, so the Senate would be dragging its feet in giving Soh permission to do more to stop the Mandalorians. Forcing her to rely mostly on the Jedi and individual Planetary Defence Forces (PDFs) to stall the Mandos until she can persuade the Senate the Mandos are a serious threat to the Republic.

It's not until the Mandalorians begin committing atrocities like the Cathar massacre and encroaching on Republic worlds like Taris that the Senate will panic and give Soh emergency powers to wage war against them. But by then, the Mandalorians will have already conquered dozens of planets and established a strong industrial base churning out tons of warships. Worse, the Mandalorians will be recruiting anyone of any species to join their ranks, swelling their manpower.

The Ruusan Reformations placed hard limits on how powerful a warship could be, terms the Mandalorians ignored and mocked. As such, Soh will temporarily repeal the Reformations to combat the Mandalorians until they are defeated. While Kuat Drive Yards, Rendili StarDrive, and Fondor begin churning out new warships for the Republic's new navy, Soh will place Avar Kriss as Supreme Commander of the Republic military and task her with delaying the Mandalorian onslaught until the Republic's military is ready to counter them.

For the next few years, Kriss will operate from Starlight Beacon, now converted into a military space station, as her HQ directing the war effort. Initially, casualties will be high as the High Republic Jedi and the newly minted Republic soldiers lack military experience, and it's worsened by how brutal and cunning the Mandalorians are. But as time goes on, the Republic and the Jedi slowly adapt to the Mandalorians and begin pushing them back, aided by the veterans of countless battles against the Mandalorians and the Republic's new warships like the Acclamator transport, Venator Star Destroyer, and Mandator Star Dreadnought. Finally pushing them back all the way back to Mandalore and defeating them for good.

The Victory is bittersweet. The casualties - Jedi, soldier, civilian - were nearly uncountable. Countless worlds like Taris and Serroco were devastated by the Mandalorian atrocities. But Chancellor Soh is determined to heal the galaxy and she begins by using the Great Works. As for the military, fear of another war was at an all time high, and has caused Soh to reluctantly refrain from bringing back the Ruusan Reformations and to keep the navy and military intact.

As for the Jedi, they have emerged scarred and battered, but wiser and stronger from the Mandalorian Wars. With their numbers devastated, Grand Master Yoda decrees the Jedi shall withdraw from the Republic to rebuild their numbers until the time is right for them to return.

And the architect behind so many of the Republic navy's greatest warships, was a Bith starship engineer named Rugess Nome.

While reading *Trials of the Jedi*, a thought occurred to me: at the end, Yoda thinks about how all the evil in the High Republic began centuries ago with Elecia (the mother)—which is partly true—but wasn't this very relationship that caused all the subsequent chaos?

Anula might have just become one of my favorite High Republic Jedi (Pathfinders #3) Spoiler

Post image

This series continues to impress. By far my favorite of the currently running Star Wars comics. I've been saying since issue 1 that Temesh and Anula give me Anakin and Ahsoka vibes and issue 3 I feel only intensifies the parallel of Anula/Ahsoka because this is something I could totally see Ahsoka doing as well. If Anakin didn't beat her to it anyways.
