Does anybody have any Hetalia fanfic recommendations, im not looking for anything in particular, i just feel like i got stuck reading the same ones over and over.

• She is canonically asexual
• She saw Eurovision live in Malmö 2024 and Basel 2025, but not Vienna 2026 as she was in the hospital being treated for her stomach problems. She did watch it from her bed though.
• She's very attached to Austria and has severe separation anxiety (to the point she wont stop sobbing) so he's usually a chaperone to whatever camp thing she attends.
• She loves cherries and cherry flavored things.
• She hates the smell of artificial strawberry.
• She loves mangoes and mango flavored smoothie pouches (She is a teenager YET she eats baby food because she is very picky)
• She is very annoying sometimes.
• Her favorite show is House MD and her fav musical is Hamilton.
• She has a realistic Alexander Hamilton cosplay.
• She has a IKEA Blåhaj named Greg she carries around and an Alien named Gary.
• She once pranked Berlin (Germany's son but takes mostly after Prussia, clearing smth up) into smoking oregano on April Fools.
• She once stole an IKEA shopping cart but Sweden let her keep it.
• She and Copenhagen, Oslo and London performed Creep by Radiohead at a school thing once and she played the guitar.
• She eats whole onions as a snack.

to preface: i won’t claim to be an expert on history, or somebody entirely dedicated to historical accuracy in fanworks. and i’m not making this post to criticize anybody in particular, or anybody at all. just asking to see if anyone’s noticed this or can explain it to me.

i’ve seen, from newer fans in particular, an influx of fanfiction/fanart/headcanons that either completely ignore history despite taking place in a historical setting (ie: gerita oneshots taking place during WWII that don’t mention anything about it other than the fact they’re in the barracks, if anything) or even actively disregard history, making it clear that the artist/author didn’t even go to wikipedia for the subject. i see anachronisms all the time, and i know hetalia itself is full of them (austria’s pre-18th century piano and america’s laptop in WWII) but, again, people really can’t be bothered to research for just a second anymore? it’s a bit disheartening.

(and uh, i hate to bring this up but sometimes, not knowing the history can lead to downright insensitivity, or harmful ideas being spread. for example, i saw somebody, a 14 year old, defending ludwig by accidentally spreading the myth of the clean wehrmacht. if you don’t know what that is, it’s worth a google. they weren’t doing that on purpose (i checked) but it demonstrates how important a base level knowledge can be. they accidentally downplayed the very real crimes committed by nazi germany during WWII to defend an anime character. learn your history)

fanart, headcanons, and general ship content as well as fanfiction. a lot of it nowadays just feels entirely removed from hetalia’s setting, even when it’s not an au. and it’s fine to write that, don’t get me wrong. don’t let me yuck your yum. but history is part of what makes hetalia so interesting. IMO, although the characters are fun to play with on their own, researching history even a little bit adds so much more to them. do you guys know why prussia acts like that? you’ll find out if you study history! do you know about the german invasion of italy? the armistice of cassibile? what about the war of 1812, where america fought the british again and invaded canada? history adds so much depth to their characters, and a lot more context for the anime and manga.

again, this isn’t an attack on anybody. if you prefer character based stuff, hey, move right along with that! have fun! don’t let me tell you what to do! but history is both super important and so much fun and i’m sad to see less of it among the predominantly newer audience

• He and Hungary like Mamma Mia, Vienna and Austria like Hamilton, which causes arguments over which musical better.
• He once stabbed himself with a butcher knife to get out of swim class.
• He is like an even dumber version of his sister.

Now that I have my ships organised… this is so chaotic and obscure like who the hell gives a crap about Australia to be putting any pairings of him that high what do you mean from the FACE group your fave pair is FrUS who hurt you- if I ever end up making a tier list for the characters, know that I’ll also have a crisis like this once again.

There's some lore about the Vienna that I haven't said yet, but ima say it now. Vienna is lactose intolerant and any dairy makes her feel iffy. But, that doesn't stop her from eating shredded cheese at 3:30 on a school night.
