Netflix Netflix really needs to give us a DVD/Blu-ray release of the entire Heartstopper series and the movie 🍂

Now that Heartstopper has come to an end, Netflix should at least give us a DVD/Blu-ray release of the entire series, just like they did with Stranger Things.

Charlie: I only joined the rugby team because I had an insane crush and you asked me to

Nick: …kinda embarrassing for you

Charlie: Yes, I was pathetic and gay

Nick: You weren’t pathetic. You’re never pathetic. Look at you now. Ruler of the school.

Pics I got Nick’s fountain pen

Post image
93 Upvotes

I’d been collecting fountain pens for a few years but had sort of paused buying any new ones because it can turn into quite an expensive hobby. When I saw Nick using one in Season 1 though I recognised the model immediately and decided I had to get it, especially since it’s a relatively inexpensive one (naturally since it’s marketed at students). It’s a Kaweco Perkeo in Jungle Green. Excuse the stained table top I’m a slob and I’ve used this desk daily for 30 years.

Edit: It occurs to me to wonder why Nick is the only one we see using a fountain pen. Do schools in the UK require fountain pens? If they do, surely we should see other characters using them. And if they don’t, are we meant to infer something about Nick’s character that he uses one?

Discussion Silly details I noticed in the movie

There are lot of mixed review for the movie. I personally liked it a lot. It felt like giving some kind of ending to the characters.

These are some silly things I noticed during the watch.. I thought I’ll share it

  1. During Charlie’s head boy campaign, in the “Vote for Charlie” flier there will be small note saying “I love him - Nick Nelson”

  2. During the breakup scene, the Heartstopper leaves are shown dried out

These 2 are with Will and Kit. I like them a lot

  1. In the prom scene ( Around 1:36 mins into the film)
Tao will say “she loves me, I love her.. you know” after that you can see Will try to control his smile and so does Kit. A second later they go back to normal

  2. Again in the prom scene (Around 1:33 mins into the film) Tao has a camera in his hand. You can see Nick kissing it(either the camper or his hand, I’m not sure)
That felt more like Kit and Will rather than Nick and Tao

Did you guys notice it too?

Discussion Movie Parallels

I made a post about the parallels in the show so I thought I would make one for the movie. Please add any you may have noticed too!

◦ Nick seeing Charlie playing with his dogs vs Charlie playing with Nellie in the park in 2x02
◦ Nick waking up to find Charlie had taken the dogs out in the backyard vs Nick waking up to the dogs scratching at the door and he has to take them out during their break up
◦ Charlie to Nick “are you going to miss me” when he drops Nick off at the locker room vs Nick saying the same thing to Charlie when discussing him going on holiday in 3x01
◦ Nick typing “I am” vs “am I” in 1x02 (even wearing a similar colored shirt and an Orla Gartland song is playing in both scenes)
◦ “Red Sox shirt” sex scene vs Paris hickey scene. Both start off with Nick hugging Charlie’s waist/laying on the bed sideways and worried about someone walking in on them
◦ Nick sick in bed after getting drunk at the bar vs Nick sick in bed in 2x03
◦ Nick’s rugby fight vs the cinema fight in 1x07 (his poor face 🤕)
◦ Sarah telling Nick he is more like himself around Charlie in 1x02 vs her telling him he hasn’t been like himself lately
◦ Snowball fight 1x02 vs movie (Charlie is even wearing the same beanie and is wearing the same sweater from later on in 1x02)
◦ Mr Ajayi telling Charlie to not disappear in 1x08 vs him telling Charlie “historically queer people never asked permission to exist” both in the art classroom
◦ Charlie coming outside to ask Nick if he is okay after coming out to his dad in 2x07 vs Charlie coming to ask Nick if he is okay at Sarah’s birthday party after having a bad memory of his dad
◦ Charlie saying his mental health might annoy/burden Nick in 2x08 vs Nick saying his anxiety must be annoying to Charlie in their breakup fight
◦ Charlie thinking Nick is better off without him and trying to end things in 1x07/1x08 vs Nick thinking Charlie is better off without him and breaking up
◦ Charlie running away when he sees Nick at sports day in 1x08 vs running away when he sees him at the club at pride
◦ Tao confronting Charlie about Nick in the bowling alley bathroom in 1x05 vs Tao confronting Nick about Charlie in the club bathroom
◦ Nick and Tao conversations over chips/crisps in 1x05/2x08 vs leavers ball (plus 3x04 but minus the potato)
◦ Nick and Charlie’s first kiss 1x03 vs kiss in the same room at leavers ball
◦ Nick coming out to his mom vs their conversation about choosing love

And of course finally their beach date in 1x08 vs movie!

I do really love how Alice makes all these callbacks throughout the show and movie

Questions What does this mean in Britain

  1. How do schools decide who goes in what forms. Why were Toa and Isaac not in forms with Charlie? Do they go alphabetically or draw from a hat?

  2. When Nick is getting drunk, he tells this girl he was in drama with her. Is this the same as getting in front of the school putting on plays, or is this something else? Because I don't remember reading about Nick being in drama, like wanting to be an actor type of class in the Heartstopper world. It didn't seem like something his character being in rugby would do. Or is drama something else entirely in Britain?

In the scene where Nick is with the rugby lads during the breakup, does anyone know why his shirt is wet? Is it tears? Maybe alcohol?

Questions im new to this

hello everyone!!

i watched heartstopper for the first time on july 15th. was just scrolling netflix and saw the show and was like sure why not, i had ZERO idea the movie was coming out on the 17th, didn't even realize there was a movie.
anyways once i did, i decided to watch all 3 seasons on the 15th and 16th, then watch the movie on the 17th when it comes out!!
omgg a time was had i was kicking my feet and everything esp. during season one!

anywaysss im seeing alot of people talk abt how the internet treated kit and joe(esp. kit) during the initial release in 2022. not to open old wounds in this fandom. but what exactly happened, i've heard it was mostly the app we do not speak abt (the ppl on that app scare me lol) because im trying to understand the backstory of it all.

ALSOO tbh big kudos to both of them for continuing to do the work and give the movie such an amazing ending even with all the negativity at the start)

Netflix I didn't like that about the movie

Post image
7 Upvotes

While watching the movie, I got the impression that it followed the perspective of the comics rather than the series. Everything we saw involving the other characters we love was shown through Nick and Charlie's eyes. That was a bit of a shift, since the series did such a good job of showing what was going on with their friends as well.

Of course, it makes sense since it's a movie that's under two hours long, but I still felt like something was missing, you know? Maybe investing in another season would have been a better way to tell the story, making it feel more complete and giving the other characters (not just Nick and Charlie) the development they deserved. I'm not entirely sure, though.

Netflix I am getting very confused... Spoiler

So I am starting to get extremely confused by some of the criticism of the recent movie. The key word here is some, I definitely think there are some valid critiques. I would say for me, the biggest issue with the movie is the timing, it very obviously seems like an 6 episode season arch compressed into a two hour movie. However, I keep seeing over and over again, that the Heartstopper movie has lost it's innocence, it's not for kids anymore, the used to be so sweet and just hold hands and lightly kiss.

There are even some people are blaming the movie not being in the top 10 because "kids can't watch this movie".... I never thought that this was a TV show or movie for kids? I mean, teenagers sure, but if you think teenagers are never drinking or having sex or having friends having these experience... as someone who works with teenagers I don't know what to say. These are all definitely a normal part of a lot of teenagers experiences as they grow up, and thats okay!

I mean I love season 1 and the first comic as much as the next person, it's definitely probably my favorite but you all seriously wanted the culminating movie of two teenagers growing up to be only sweet and innocent? I mean, this is about teenagers in the UK. It's not shocking to me that it features going to gay clubs, some drinking (and even GASP over drinking) and yes.... Nick and Charlie having sex. That's not weird. It's not bad. It's not remotely the problem in the movie. I frankly find it a little bit weird that people are so weirded out by it, and it almost feels insulting. Like you wanted Nick and Charlie's relationship to be exactly like it was when they first got together? You are okay with light kisses but as it gets more serious and sexual then it becomes gross and icky to see them together?

I am left wondering where this idea came from and feel sad by this idea that a flaw in the movie is Nick as an 18 year old going a bit too far with drinking and Nick and Charlie wanting to explore and talk about their sexual relationship. There are so many movies and shows that heavily feature different sex couples having sex, and as a Bi millennial that would have KILLED for this kind of representation when I was younger I am just feeling fed up with seeing this sentiment over and over again.

Discussion A movie was a BAD idea

It was a bad idea over a season.

I refuse to believe the viewership was so bad that Netflix just had to resort to a movie instead of a new season. I came to this show late, after finishing heated rivalry and looking for sunshine lol, and it’s not like this show was some hidden gem. As an outsider, I knew about this show same way everyone knows about something like love on the spectrum. It was incredibly popular even before I ultimately came to watch it. It captured my heart and as soon as I finished season 3, I just had to watch Agatha All Along to see Joe Locke in something else (he’s incredible in that btw even though I’m not a Marvel fan like that).

This movie, my goodness, just does not work. I found out online that it’s meant to be split into 4 seasons but that was not clear at all. I think their idea of closure was the couple just constantly kissing (I’m no prude, Im a HR fan remember), but considering they were time jumping a lot and last I remember had a lot to address or conclude from the previous season, I was sort of hoping for more plot… The fight was fine, sure, let’s have them break up and miss each other, overplayed but I don’t mind it’s inclusion. It’s the way they go about it that annoys the hell out of me. If you’re going to keep Charlie out of the loop they why keep the audience out of the loop too? We shouldn’t have to play the guessing game as to why Nick was struggling and his issues. I mean yeah it could be that he’d miss Charlie, guilt for moving away, co-dependency, not having much of identity outside of rugby and his relationship, his shit dad, pressure from Tao and Elle’s break up… all of the above. The point is, we should not have to guess!!! Im not a toddler I don’t need it spelled out for me in big letters, I just think this ambiguity is inherent in sth like this: a 2 hour movie with a large ensemble cast who were clearly so much more used to having their story told in long form.

Not gonna lie if felt like they were playing with my feelings when the tears and make up finally came, I audible went “bruhhhhh”. Like this entire movie was lots of kissing, 2 “fights“ (Tao and Elle’s actually made so much sense and I loved how they tackled that), and allllllllll the nostalgia in the world because yk they’re nIcK&cHaRlIe wtaf. I swear when Isaac said that I wanted to beat him up cos bruh what does that even mean. This show may be sappy but it knows its audience is not stupid. You can’t just throw a bunch of flashbacks at us every other scene as the bare minimum and call it a day. Give me the substance what the heck?!!

Let’s not even talk about everyone else being glorified extras yet still dragged around for promo knowing damn well some had like 2-3 lines smdh. This is actually so annoying. Netflix shame on you!

Netflix Joe Locke Takes Us Behind the Scenes on Heartstopper Forever

Joe appeared on See-Saw’s podcast this week to talk about the film and reflect on the past five years working on Heartstopper. He shares some really nice insights on the whole process and talks about working with the cast, crew, and Alice, his experiences with the Heartstopper fanbase (he’s quite complimentary), what he’s learned, and what he hopes to do next. It’s a nice listen/watch!

Netflix I’m sad we didn’t get a full last season either but…

While I don’t think the movie is perfect it doesn’t even come close to the shit on fire debacle that the Good Omens final movie was.

While both movies felt rushed, Heart Stopper Forever still had (in my opinion) well written dialogue, well thought out emotional and character’s arcs and offered meaningful content without fully relying on call backs to past seasons. And the call backs it did have were touching and appropriate when used. The Good Omens movie had little to none of those things AND had poor pacing and narrative choices (IYKYK)

Heart Stopper Forever left me feeling wanting more while the Good Omens movie made me wish I never watched the show to begin with 😂 With all the disappointing finales we’ve been dealt, I’m glad Heart Stopper had an ending that did it’s core themes and values justice and made the journey toward the end worth it.

Netflix Imogen (parallel story to Nick)

I know that Heartstopper its the Nick and Charlie story but do people ever bring up Imogen is the female parallel to Nick; her story to identify / realization of her sexual orientation of being a lesbian. If there was more pov from Imogen in the movie it would have been beneifical

Netflix Netflix Top 10s: Heartstopper: Forever Misses Out,

Thumbnail

One big movie that didn’t manage to get into the top 10s this week is Heartstopper: Forever, which wraps up the series and probably gives an indication why Netflix didn’t give it a full season renewal. The cut-off for getting in the top 10s this week was 3.2M views, although we obviously don’t know how close it got to that.

Looking at the daily top 10 charts and where the movie has been charting, we can see the reason why it didn’t make it in the global charts. Naturally, the show is very heavily concentrated in its popularity in the United Kingdom and across Europe, but it ultimately failed to chart in the United States and was weak across most other regions. The movie topped out as the #7 movie on the first day of release but has fallen down since then, suggesting that its heavily invested and loyal audience all turned out on day 1, but that’s about it.

Edit: Replies are saying it was number 5 in the US for a couple days but thats just not true it never charted in the United States, i dont know what you saw but. Flixpatrol tracks top 10 rankings for the major streaming services and as you can see in the link down below. heartstopper forever was never in the US top 10, even if it did drop of f the top 10 it would show up on flixpatrol and it doesnt show up. I dont know what you guys saw but it wasnt #5 ever.

Netflix No movie would’ve been better

Spoiler alert! Don’t read this if you haven’t seen the movie. I would recommend you watch it before you read my review. This is my opinion, if you don’t agree with it that’s fine, and would like to hear why you disagree with the following points.

I wish I could say this was a good movie and a fitting ending to the story of Nick and Charlie. However, I don’t think this movie contributed anything to the storyline or characters.

First, the interactions with the side-characters and Nick/Charlie:
How I see it, it’s mostly a send-off for every character. Monologue on top of monologue or one sided conversations with either Charlie or Nick. It feels forced. I get that this movie was on a budget. But the monologues don’t contribute anything. For example, the monologue in the end where Tao talks to Nick. In the book they talk about how their friendship has grown over time. Now, it’s just Tao who talks. He could’ve told anybody that monologue. It would’ve had the same message. Nick was not a contributing factor in that whole conversation.

Secondly, the whole pride scene:
I cringed. The whole thing felt so forced, no emotion whatsoever. You would think that when you’re marching for human rights, there would be more passion. Also, 2 chants would’ve gotten the point across. It felt like 5 minutes of cringe, emotionless chanting. Hardest scene to watch by far! Which is disappointing because this could’ve been so empowering. To stand up for trans rights is so important, and it didn’t feel that way.

Thirdly, Nick’s character:
What happened? The Nick we know from season one, has been nothing but masks? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not shaming the trauma or the insecurity. But it’s like he’s lost his entire way of coping. He used to talk about his emotions, about his thoughts, especially with his mom. But he bottles everything up now and has no conversation with his mom, with no explanation as to why. It doesn’t feel right to me. I don’t what else to say. It feels like they messed up Nick’s character. Everything that he was and that I’ve come to know just disappeared in the movie, which was disappointing to say the least.

Fourthly, the breakup(?) scene and the get-back-together scene:
Maybe this is a hot take, but I think Nick was mostly if not fully responsible for the breakup. Charlie said that maybe some space would be better for them. And Nick assumes Charlie wants to breakup. I get that he was not in a great headspace to begin with. But he didn’t communicate anything to Charlie. Or his mother? Which differs a lot from the books. He assumes it’s best for Charlie, that he’s too much. Listen, i feel for this moment. I myself can resonate with these thoughts and feelings of failure. And of course, he’s a teenager. But the way he just leaves? They don’t talk for what feels like a week or more? The time-skips were very confusing to be honest. For me, it comes down to responsibility. Nick initiated the break, he didn’t talk to anyone about what was going on and let his fears/insecurities lead his actions. He should’ve reached out, in my opinion. But I get that he probably felt like Charlie deserved better. Anyways, then the scene where they get back together. I would’ve expected a conversation about the things that were said, assumed and done by both of them (especially Nick, but Charlie too). How are they going to move forward? But no, it’s “I missed you” “I love you”. At least it felt like that to me. Which is weird, because Nick’s mom had a monologue scene right before this about how love is a choice. It doesn’t automatically mean that it’s going to work out. It’s something you choose to work for. But they turned it to “We’re Nick and Charlie. We’re different than other relationships.” Not the message you want to send to teenagers right? That conflict should not be talked about as long as you love each other?

Lastly:
I miss Olivia Colman. I get why she couldn’t be part of the movie, but I missed her.

To conclude:
I will never watch this again. My tzatziki dip made the experience better. I don’t know what I would’ve done without it.
The first 3 seasons are amazing and I will cherish them forever.
No movie would’ve been better than this movie.

Discussion thoughts on new heart stopper movie?

At first, I wasn’t really into the series because I thought it was a little corny. But the more I watched it, the more it grew on me. Now I’m curious what everyone thinks about the new movie and whether you think they’ll actually stay together in the long run. Thoughts?

Y’all….just read “Got me feeling blue (as my lips and fingertips)” by maycollins and it’s just so brilliant! Feels so connected to canon that I am a little disoriented and have to remind myself it’s not. Great writing and characterization. Wish there was more to read from this author!
