In Memory of Bob Ross from a beginner

Post image

Today,as a super beginner, after learning with YouTuber Jonny Art, I moved forward to Bob Ross Oil Painting. I used acrylic painting to finish it within 2 days. Actually is hard for me to mix a color which can approach to Bob, so I used those colors I preferred. I like Bob said “ an happy accident”, painting in happy and without any pressure or nervous in every step of drawing. So I’m still enjoy the painting even though I know my shadow, colors and lights look a little abnormal. 😆 I think that should be a happiness from a beginner. Well, of course, if someone can help to talk to me how to draw the grass and the tree in different layers, I’ll very appreciated and glad to heard that !

Finished this one today, second pic is from around when I started in February this year. A lot of time, patience, and money dedicated to growing my skills - 100% worth it. I’ve had so much fun being separated from my worries, work, and from the meaningless doom scrolling that I’ve wasted days of my life doing. Feels like the first time I’ve put towards being a true learner since I graduated. Thanks for viewing!

Painting #9 really gave me a run for my money. Lights on, lights off.

Things I like things I don’t like. Things I learned things I forgot. The difference with the light on and off blows me away though.

Perspective and value study

Post image

I feel like so many times I get caught up in the very fine detail work that I miss getting down good perspective and value, which no amount of detail work can make up for. I really tried to get perspective and value on this one and didn’t worry as much about some of the smaller details. Appreciate any thoughts or critiques anyone has!

Help Request Paint, brushes, canvas…what else?

I’ve taken a couple oil painting classes at a local hobby store and have really enjoyed them. On the local marketplace, someone advertised oil paints, canvases, an easel, a palette and gesso. I picked them up and am about ready to get started. What else do I need?

What’s everyone using to clean and store their brushes?

Anything else that I’m not thinking of?

Kevin Hill Brushes

Has anyone used Kevin Hill brushes lately? I have his liner, filbert, round, 1/4" and 3/4" brushes. All are great. I ordered a 2" brush after my Bob Ross 2" brushes aged out and it's been fine. I ordered another 2" and a 1" recently and they are not great. They seem cheaper made and not as many bristles. They don't reshape very well after cleaning either. Especially the 1". Anyone have a similar experience or did I just happen to get a couple bad brushes?
