July 2026 - hair transplant with Dr Jate at Bangkok Hair Clinic (BHC). 2725 grafts covering hairline, mid scalp and crown. Excellent clinic, wonderful experience and great results so far.

I didn’t find much information at all regarding BHC on Reddit so here’s my review. I hope it helps others.
Background
I’m a 40yo male from Australia, happily married, own a ranch with a couple of horses, have a great active life (CrossFit) and first responder. I don’t smoke and very rarely drink. I’ve been receding from the front, thinning through the middle and balding in the crown since my 20’s. I’ve used topical minoxidil for 15 years and upon further research, finasteride for 6 months. No other medical conditions or medication. I would consider myself as a Norwood 4 hair pattern. Kept my hair short-ish and styled with wax creating a messy look to cover the balding spots. In 2025 I started researching options outside minoxidil and finasteride, particularly hair transplants - mostly out of curiosity. I saw friends go through the process and the more I looked into it I thought why not me?
Research
From late 2025, I reached out to a few Australian clinics as friends had procedures done locally (Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sydney). The cost absolutely blew me away and I looked at options overseas which offered far more choice and highly experienced surgeons at a fraction of the price. Wasn’t sure how people with the same job as me afforded procedures in Australia, but then I remembered - they don’t own horses!
Turkey and Thailand were highly rated, and Bangkok is an 8 hour direct flight from where I live so getting there was super easy. I contacted several BKK based clinics between Feb and March 2026. I started with many of the more well known clinics you’ll read about on Reddit but they were booked out far in advance (I was limited with time due to my work leave blocks and a few other factors) and I wasn’t overly impressed with most of their communication - weeks of delayed responses and varying opinions on what would suit me based on photos alone.
Bangkok Hair Clinic (BHC) was one of the clinics I contacted, however the difference was that they offered a free video consultation with one of their surgeons which highly appealed to me. This was never offered by any other clinic during my initial conversations with them on messaging platforms (Messenger and WhatsApp). I started thoroughly investigating BHC - google reviews, social media and YouTube, all seemed positive apart from a few negative reviews that were replied to by BHC and addressed the negative reviews well in my opinion.
There wasn’t a lot of info on Reddit for BHC either - possibly due to local Thai clients using other platforms for reviews. The lack of google reviews from westerners slightly concerned me, but with nothing to lose, I booked the free video appointment with BHC via Messenger contact. I was sent and completed a google document with required information such as medical history and sent photos of my hair for the clinic to review.
Initial consultation
In early April 2026 I spoke with one of BUC’s surgeons Dr Jirayu Jatechayanon on a google call for about 30 minutes. He predicted 2800-3300 grafts for my frontal hairline, mid scalp and crown. Dr Jirayu explained the process in full and asked if I had any questions. One question was regarding the hairline I wanted, which was more conservative as I’m in my 40’s and didn’t want to look like a child again. Dr Jirayu explained add on services that were an option but in no way was trying to upsell. Dr Jirayu was professional, courteous and friendly - in line with my experience of Thais in general.
I received a comprehensive Messenger message with the video call summary including daily schedule of the procedure pre and post op guides and summary of fees. Fee was 129,000THB for first 1500 grafts and additional 75THB per graft, indicating that my total estimate would be between 226,500 and 264,000 THB. There was also a 1,000THB fee for a blood test regarding HIV, or the option to bring a blood test result from my GP back home. From my research, it’s definitely not the cheapest but far better value than having the surgery done at home.
The price covers doctor and nurse fees, antibiotics, 6 months of oral minoxidil tablets, pain relief, 1 month supply of hair vitamins (zinc/biotin tablets), shampoo, defense gel, post op wound care, hat, bandana and pre/post op care booklets.
I also had the option to include regenera activa cell plus therapy for 60,000THB and PRP for 7,500THB. I did a bit of research into both - I decided to pass on regenera due to the higher cost and no actual proof it will help me, but went with PRP which was quite cheap and had scientific research to prove it assists with healing which appealed to me.
Booking
I decided to book surgery for a date in mid July 2026 with Dr Jate. Dr Jate and Dr Jairyu are brothers and owners of BHC. I was impressed with their qualifications that are clearly visible on their website. I paid a 10,000THB deposit using a GBPrimePay link to secure my date.
Pre op / arriving in Bangkok
About 2 weeks out, I received a message confirming the appointment and what to avoid before the procedure, such as medications. BHC also recommended local hotels to choose from. I arrived in Bangkok 2 days prior to my procedure to explore and settle in. I stayed within walking distance from clinic (~750m /10mins).
Procedure day
I arrived at BHC at 9am as advised, following an exercise session, light breakfast and no coffee 😩 The clinic itself is located about 30 mins from BKK airport in a medical precinct of Phrom Phong - well signed and really easy to find. The clinic looked to be brand new, very clean and professional. I was met with the reception lady and we went through paperwork confirming medical history, allergies and questions or concerns. This lady stayed with me until the procedure itself which was a nice touch. I was invited to change into a comfortable robe and sandals, had a finger prick test for HIV prior to a pre op red light therapy session.
I then met with Dr Jate and his anesthetist - a female doctor whose name escapes me. Dr Jate and everyone I spoke with were well spoken in English and Dr Jate explained the procedure throughly. He drew a proposed conservative hairline on my head and mapped out my head on a plastic film stencil. From there he predicted my total grafts would be 2725 and that my donor area was well and truly able to handle that without over harvesting - another concern of mine satisfied. This process took about half an hour ensuring I was happy with everything.
From there it was off for a haircut and a shampoo. I had the option to keep most of my hair long on top (besides widows peak area) and the donor area was shaved. I’ve never had a buzz cut so I was happy to keep some growth.
I was then asked to take some medication consisting of antibiotic, diazepam (Valium) and paracetamol.
At about 10am, my receptionist friend escorted me to the surgery room where I again spoke with Dr Jate. Dr Jate showed me around and I was introduced to all the nurses and assistants present. I’d say there were about 10 people in the room all up.
The procedure itself started with me face down. I was given an antiseptic wash and a series of local anesthetic injections. What made this process more pleasant was that the injections were accompanied by a vibrating massage gun in the area, stress balls in my hand to squeeze and my legs and feet were massaged. This process was about 2-3 minutes of a number of injections in the donor area. I would describe the pain to be 3/10 - I’d like to think I’ve got a relatively high pain threshold due to my work and daily CrossFit style high intensity training. From that moment on, I couldn’t feel any pain for the extraction.
Next came the extraction process which took about 2 hours. They use a small drill type device to insert micro holes around the hair grafts. It sounded like a high pitched dremel machine followed by a slight crunch noise when the drill went in. Individual hairs were then extracted by tweezers and placed into a Petrie dish containing a solution. I dozed off for a while and was awoken by Dr Jate who said it was all done and time for lunch.
Lunch was provided and was delicious - chicken fried rice with an egg on top, water and a selection of sweet treats. At about 12:30, I was then asked to take further paracetamol and diazepam.
Next up was the implantation process. Prior to lying down, the nurses showed me all my grafts in the Petrie dishes. One of the nurses was looking at the grafts under a microscope - sorting them into how many hairs were coming from each follicle - being one, two or three. I’m a bit of a biology geek so I enjoyed being able to see behind the scenes.
I was then face up for the rest of the procedure that lasted about 4 hours. The anesthetist placed a further series of local anesthetic injections into the receiving areas of my head which was slightly more uncomfortable compared to the donor area. Maybe 4/10 for me. From there, I couldn’t feel any pain for the implantation process. I also had some blood taken from my arm which was for the PRP injections during implantation. Dr Jate showed me two syringes containing the yellowish liquid plasma.
Implantation involved Dr Jate making incisions into my receiving areas and the implantation of all hairs done by both Jr Jate and his nurses. I definitely fell asleep during this process as I was awoken by Dr Jate who said it was 5pm and I was all done. Once my wounds were cleaned I was stood up and had my first look at my new hairline. Very impressed and as indicated by the drawings. I was then dressed with a bandage and a bandana. I said my farewell to all the wonderful nurses and left Dr Jate and his team with another staff member who guided me through the post op care instructions.
I was provided with a bag containing post op care booklet, wound pads for cleaning, a surgical mat for placing on my pillow to prevent staining sheets, medication including paracetamol, zinc and biotin, oral minoxidil and a bottle of saline spray.
Follow up appointments
The day after surgery is a rest day. I was told I can go about my holiday by walking in air conditioned areas but decided to lay low in the hotel. I felt fine all day - no pain or discomfort. My experience in sleeping was fine - I used a neck pillow which made the world of difference with one other pillow behind my head and back to provide a slight angle. I received a message from the clinic checking up on me which was very thoughtful.
The next three consecutive days involved a half hour appointment back at BHC for dressing changes, hair wash and some laser light therapy. Dr Jate met with me on the first and last day to inspect the transplant site and informed me I was on track for recovery. I was guided on how to continue post op hair wash treatment on the shampoos and lotions provided. After my rest day post surgery, I ventured out to explore Bangkok and felt no pain at all, was just mindful to keep as cool as I could - mostly shopping malls.
5 days post op I flew back home.
Overall review
Given the lack of reviews by westerners particularly on these Reddit groups for this particular clinic, one could say I took a risk booking with BHC but I’m glad I did. I could not fault the level of care and service I received from Dr Jate and his team from the initial video meeting right through to my last wash. Everything went as promised - smooth and stress free. Communication from BHC was excellent through my entire process. I felt very little pain during surgery and my healing so far has been wonderful. I guess the final test is what my hair will look like 6 and 12 months away and beyond and I will post further updates to this group.
