Hi everyone,
I’m extending my Hungarian student residence permit through Enter Hungary.
The problem is that I’ll be outside Hungary and I won’t be able to attend biometrics until august 17-18-19 Before those dates, I won’t be in the country at all.
I know that after submitting the application they eventually ask you to come in for biometrics, but I’m trying to figure out when I should submit the application so that the biometric request doesn’t come too early. And also it shouldn’t be come late than 21 bcs my uni will start so I couldn’t go
For those who have recently extended their residence permit:
How many days after submitting did you receive the biometric request?
Were you assigned a specific appointment, or were you able to book one yourself?
Based on your experience, when would you submit the application if you could only attend biometrics on August 17–19?

Looking to help someone with Verification of Citizenship via the Hungarian consulate in Buenos Aires. Argentina now only issues digital (PDF) birth certificates. Central Authority in Budapest is rejecting this.

Anyone come across this issue before and found a way forward?

I’ve been working on something over the past few months that I originally built for myself while preparing for the Hungarian simplified naturalization interview. I’ve seen quite a few people like myself asking how to prepare for the interview, so I thought I’d share something that has genuinely helped me.

First, an important disclaimer:

This is NOT a replacement for learning Hungarian.

You still need language classes, a tutor, self-study, or whatever method you’re using. There is no app that can replace actually learning the language.

What I found difficult wasn’t learning Hungarian itself, but preparing for this specific interview. Most courses teach the language broadly, while the interview revolves around a fairly predictable set of topics: introducing yourself, talking about your family, work, where you live, your daily life, answering follow-up questions, reading short texts, and responding naturally.

That’s why I started using Konzul.

Instead of trying to replace language learning, it complements it. It gives you a place to practice exactly the kinds of conversations and scenarios you’ll encounter at the consulate, helping you turn the grammar and vocabulary you’ve learned elsewhere into actual interview answers.

If you’re currently preparing for simplified naturalization, I’d love to hear what parts of the interview you’re finding most difficult. I’m constantly improving the app based on feedback from people going through the same process.

My great grandmother was born in Hungary in 1915, in what is now Horitschon, Austria. But prior to 1921 it was Haracscony, Hungary. Through out her entire life she never forgot her roots in burganland. America is now more then ever made for the rich, this is why I want to move to EU, I want to see the place she was born. But I also want to ask if the documents I have gathered will be enough. I am concerned that I am building a dream in Europe in Hungary, and Germany that will not work out.

This is what I have planned:

Birth certificates:
1. Great great grandfathers birth 1889 certificate( parish records Austria)
2. great grandmothers birth 1915 certificate( Hungarian civil records)
3. grandmothers birth 1950 certificate( Indiana department of health)
4. Mothers birth certificate (Indiana department of health)
5. My birth certificate( Indiana department of health

Then death certificates:
1. Great great grandfathers death certificate date(1955)
2. Great grandfathers death certificate(1967)
3. Great grandmothers death certificate (2015)

Marriage certificate:
1. Great great grandfather and great great grandmothers dated (1913 at Hungary civil records)
2. Great grandmother and great grandfather dated (1949 at Indiana civil affairs)

Supporting documents:

1. Ship manifests from Ellis island foundation
   
2. Certificate of arrival from Ellis Island foundation
   
3. 1930 census
   
4. Great grandmothers obituary naming me as her great Grandson.

Update: embassy is a bust. They want you to go in person book an appointment three months from now and like most of North America you gotta fly there lol. I recommend anyone here go the route below on the thread here.

I am wondering if anyone has any other avenue other than going through the embassy to get birth certificates released from family. Very specifically, I am looking to get my father’s birth certificate who was born in Budapest, hungary.

What’s the best way to be able to get this processed fast? I have emailed the embassy, but I have yet to hear back. Does anyone have any other avenues on doing this?

Working since weeks calling on office after another without success.

My father is a born hungarian, but got naturalized around ~ 60 years ago as a german.

Can't find any documents to proof this, only got the certificate of naturalization (how he became german).

He was hungarian by birth even though born in german since my grandfather was hungarian.

Birth certificate and birth registry in Germany are all not stating any citizenship.

Any ideas which document I should try to get? Feeling totally lost.

A couple years ago, we were collecting documents about my wife's great-grandfather, who was born in Austro-Hungary in 1898. It looks like we have all the required documents to prove the lineage and know how to get certified copies of them if needed. But what with moving to another country, giving birth to our child and other stuff, she hasn't even started learning Hungarian yet.

At the moment, our child is one month old, and it occured to us that the baby could apparently get citizenship, without a language interview, based on the same ancestor and lineage documents. Is that correct? Could we apply just for the baby without my wife applying for herself (yet)?

Hi, i've recently been looking into hungarian citizenship by descent from my great grandfather, whose family immigrated from Transylvania in 1907 (more specifically Alba in modern day Romania), but when they immigrated it was Kingdom of Hungary. I've looked into requirements and from what I understand I qualify, the biggest hurdle is language but something I am working on.

I'm wondering what anyones experience with recieving citizenship by descent from Hungary is in general, but more specifically from great grandparents or based on previous borders?

I apologize if i'm coming off naive. I currently live in the US and it is slowly feeling less livable in so many way. I'm so depressed by the culture here, and looking for options to leave.

Hi! I am traveling to Budapest for a first time visit! Is there an official government office I can visit to see if they have a record of my great grandparents being born in Hungary? Where they grew up is now a part of Romania. So should I be contacting the Romanian government for their records? They were born in 1889 in Neubeschenowa.

I am applying for my HU citizenship in hopes of getting a passport / ID card. My grandfather was born in Hungary in 1956, and then his family left and immigrated to the West at the end of the same year.

I have all of the required documents: marriage certificates, marriage application records, and birth certificates. I am applying with the Consulate office in Chicago.

Hey everyone.
As the tittle says I’d like to get Hungarian Citizenship by descent. My great grandfather was a Hungarian Jew, who left Hungary some time around 1942. He moved to El Salvador then, as there was colonel from El Salvador giving citizenship papers to Jews at the time to save them from the camps. My family knows our original Hungarian last name which would be Banyasz, but we don’t really know what my great grandfathers first name, or middle name was before moving to El Salvador, as he got a Spanish version of his name in Hungarian. I can’t ask my grandparents for documentation, or much information, as they passed away when I was 5, and any document they had from the old country has been lost to time. Also on a different note, I don’t live in El Salvador, I live in the US. Getting documents from El Salvador might be hard, but not impossible. My mom’s side of the family are Jews from Germany, and Hungary who left due to the holocaust, so as a result we’re very European looking, and no one believes we’re from El Salvador.
My question is, is there a way to prove with records this connection to Hungary, and are there any places I should start to look at? I know that my situation is a little more niche due to the fact that I come from a family of Hungarian, Jews that ended up in a random small country in Latin America.

I'm early in the process still- just now having a genealogist begin research.

I have been considering moving to the Netherlands and was curious if anyone knows the impact? Would I need to utilize a consulate there instead? Go to Hungary?

Is it possible/ easiest to still utilize a US embassy or is that not an option if I'm living in another country ?

I know some people have mentioned that apotheosized documents aren't need for printed forms at US consulates but that's not the case in other countries.

So I will be going to Hungary in a couple of months, which lead me to trying to do some research on my family etc.

Funny enough I was able to find info on my grand and great grandparents on my father's side. but can not find anything on my parents.

I was born there but we all immigrated pre wall down when I was a child ( my parents died shortly after, so I have no resources)and as far as I know none of the docs like my or their birth certificates made it out with us. I do have my mom's Hungarian passport and an actual hard report card from the school I attended as a child but that's it.

First - how can I find theirs and my birth certificates when I am in Hungary?
and as a side note, Am I still a Hungarian Citizen?

I am an Indonesian citizen and my fiancé is a Hungarian citizen. We are currently trying to decide whether it would be easier to get married in Hungary or in Indonesia.

My fiancé recently spoke with a registrar, and he was told that marriage with a foreign citizen in Hungary may require additional document verification, translations, and administrative checks. Because of this, we would like to understand the real process from people who have already gone through it.

Could anyone share their experience regarding:

- What documents are required from the foreign partner?

- Do foreign documents need apostille and official Hungarian translations?

- How long does the process usually take?

- Are there any additional checks for non-EU citizens?

- Is it easier to get married in Hungary first and then apply for residence, or is it common to marry abroad and register the marriage in Hungary later?

Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

A few weeks ago I announced a small group conversation course for intermediate Hungarian learners, and since then I've been getting messages from people asking if I offer something for complete beginners. So here it is!
No prior knowledge needed, we’ll start from zero.

I use a Comprehensible Input approach, which basically means you'll be listening and absorbing Hungarian naturally from day one. No grammar drills, no memorizing tables, no being put on the spot before you're ready. Just real, enjoyable Hungarian at a pace that makes sense for beginners. In my experience, this approach is more helpful for students starting out than traditional textbooks. But you don’t have to take my word for it, come and see if it works for you!

Hi guys, looking for a quick document recommendation. I have my citizenship by descent interview in LA in about 7 weeks in late August. I thought my document checklist was complete, but it turns out my grandmother's "birth certificate" (born in Budapest, 1st district, 1954) is actually just a baptismal certificate. We can't find her original BC anywhere.

I have all the other required docs (my BC, my mother's BC, and all relevant marriage certificates), but I need to get my grandma's actual birth certificate ASAP. The embassy route is too slow for my timeframe. Does anyone have recommendations for a local service, lawyer, or courier in Hungary who can pull the official document and expedite it to the US? Thanks so much!

I’m fairly positive I qualify for the latter, but qualifying for the former would be great.

My great great grandmother was born in Hommona, Hungary in 1898. She emigrated to the United States in 1904 (I think). She submitted a petition for naturalization sometime in the 1940s or 50s (I have the document but can’t find a date on it), after the birth of my great grandmother and grandmother. I can prove lineage through birth/marriage records from her to me.

One additional note is that my great great grandfather was polish, but on some documents (including census) was listed as Austrian (must’ve been a part of Poland that was then part of the AH empire).

If anyone has any insight, that would be great. I understand I may be lacking some details—happy to look/provide any that may be helpful!

Once I get my citizenship (via parent being Hungarian,) should I try to get a second European citizenship elsewhere to continue access to the EU? I'm considering retiring in Hungary, but I do want to have the ability and freedom to travel all over the EU.
