Support

The best way to obtain support is to search for your local HP customer services phone line ("HP {country} support" in Google), call that and request to be connected to "VR Support" or "Workstation Support". Web chat is proving to be less reliable for quickly resolving support issues.

Troubleshooting

For general troubleshooting tips take a look at Microsoft's Reverb G2 troubleshooting guide.

As a first step, make sure the headset cable is pushed all the way in, as this only being half-conneceted can lead to a number of different issues and the connection is quite stiff, it should look like this when it's properly seated. It's also advised to not unplug this again unless absolute necessary, but instead unplug it at the computer side, if possible.

Clarity and Comfort

The back strap for the headset is supposed to cradle the occipital bone, the lump/bump on the back of your skull, with the bottom of the strap sitting comfortably underneath it. Wearing it there will result in the best field of view and clarity.

Playing around with the IPD setting can sometimes help, some people find a setting different to their measured IPD is clearer.

SteamVR Performance

Changing the "Per Eye Resolution" in the SteamVR settings can help greatly in improving performance. You can increase or decrease this figure until most games run well and then further refine this for each game individually by clicking the "Per-Application Video Settings" button, allowing you to run some games at a higher or lower resolution to account for how well optimised they are.

Headset/Controller Tracking

In addition to movement sensors, the Reverb G2 uses a set of cameras to correct it's relative position in the world, using the shapes of the walls, decor, furniture, etc to calculate how it's moving through space. This should work well in most rooms, but can struggle in particularly featureless spaces, such as a bare room with white walls or against a wrap-around green screen. Adding posters, art, April tags, or even tape lines to the walls can help provide additional points of reference.

A more common issue with the tracking is due to the lighting in the room either being too bright or too dim for the cameras. The easiest way to troubleshoot issues with your lighting is to activate Flashlight mode by holding the Windows button and the grip at the same time, or by saying "flashlight on" out loud. The camera view you're shown is what the headset is seeing, so make sure you can clearly see the controller lights while facing all directions, that there are no bright light sources that overpower the controller lights when you look around and that you can see the edges of walls and furniture, as this is what is used to track the headset's position.

Speaker Issues

The headphones make a connection with spring-loaded "pogo" pins to the contacts in the headstrap, these can occasionaly not have been connected properly in the factory, leading to one or both speakers not working, being at different volumes and other audio issues. Removing the headphone and putting it back on can help ensure the pogo pins are in their proper place. Contact support if the issue persists.

7-14 "Something Went Wrong" error when headset is plugged in

Typically an issue with the USB connection. See this thread for troubleshooting. If you have an X570 motherboard, there seems to be a common issue with the USB controller. Try all of the available USB ports, but if you don't see any success you may need an external USB hub or internal USB PCI-e card. Check this thread for suggestions for USB controllers to try.

Headset not shutting down when removed

The Mixed Reality Portal will eventually go to sleep but the HMD will stay on during that time. It's best to close the Mixed Reality Portal when you are done using it, which will shut the HMD down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ordering and Shipping

1. When will the G2 be in stock in my country?

  • Availability of the G2 varies by country, but there's no published roadmap for when new G2s will be delivered for retail in different countries.

2. What countries are receiving G2s?

  • You can view shipping statistics based on community reports here and a summary of known shipping information for each region here.

3. Will larger retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy stock the Reverb G2?

  • More retailers will receive the G2 over time, but there is no published list currently.

Displays and Optics

4. What resolution are the headset panels?

  • Each eye has a 2160x2160, 2.89" (73.4mm) LCD display with RGB subpixel stripe running at 90Hz. The combined resolution is 4320x2160.

5. What is the field of view (FOV)?

  • The listed diagonal FOV is 114°

6. Does the headset have mechanical IPD adjustment?

  • Yes. From 60mm to 68mm.

7. My IPD falls outside this range, am I likely to have problems?

  • Early reports suggest that the display is still quite clear with the IPD slider set ±2.5mm of your actual IPD. This means if you have an IPD of 57.5mm to 70.5mm you shouldn't have much trouble. Outside of this the display may become blurrier and objects in-game may not appear correctly scaled.

8. Is it possible to change the display brightness?

  • It is not currently possible or planned, but they may implement this later depending on user feedback.

9. Will prescription lenses be available?

  • VR Optician and WIDMOvr have confirmed they will be supplying prescription lenses for the Reverb G2. These are likely to be available a month or two after the headset releases.

Cables and Power

10. How long is the cable?

  • There is a 5 metre cable running from the headset to a small link box, with a 1 metre DisplayPort 1.3 cable and a 1 metre USB-C cable running out of that box. The box also has a connector for the required power adapter. /u/isVatsug kindly provided a diagram.

11. What connections do I need?

  • You will need a DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort connection on your graphics card and a free USB-A or USB-C port for data (a USB-C port directly on your motherboard is recommended). Additionally, you will need a power socket to connect the required power adapter. Both a USB-C to USB-A adapter and a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort adapter are included in the box.

12. What kind of power supply does the headset require?

  • Power is supplied via a standard 45W HP laptop charger with a barrel jack. While it was originally planned, it is no longer possible to power the headset solely over USB.

13. How much does the headset weigh?

  • 550g (1.2lb) without the cable.

Controllers

14. What inputs do the controllers have?

  • Each controller has an analogue trigger, an analogue grip button, a thumbstick, A/B or X/Y buttons, a menu button and a Windows button.

15. Do the controllers have capacitive touch sensors?

  • No, while the grip and trigger are analogue, there is no sensor to detect if your fingers are lightly touching the buttons.

16. What batteries do the controllers take?

  • The controllers are powered by two 1.5V AA batteries each. Note that while most non-rechargeable AA batteries will work, the most common rechargeable AA batteries, NiMHs, are only 1.2V and will leave the controllers in low power mode with reduced haptic feedback. In some circumstances this may also negatively impact on tracking, due to dimmer tracking lights.

17. What rechargeable batteries should I use?

  • For rechargeable batteries you want to look at 1.5V or 1.6V NiZn or Li-ion batteries. Common brands are PKCELL, Jugee and EBL. You can find a detailed guide to battery choices on the unofficial G2 website.

18. Will there be upgraded controllers with capacitive touch in the future?

  • We currently have no information and HP staff aren't able to comment on potential future products.

19. How do the controllers connect to the headset?

  • They are paired directly to the headset via a built-in Bluetooth receiver and will be paired from the factory. A button to pair different controllers with the headset is located inside the battery compartment.

19. Can I use the Valve Index Knuckler controllers with the Reverb G2?

  • While they are not officially supported, it is possible to use SteamVR and the OpenVR Space Calibrator to use the Knuckle controllers with a Reverb G2. To use this setup you will need two Steam wireless dongles, or a SteamVR headset to allow the controllers to communicate with your computer, on top of the controllers and Lighthouse base stations. A guide on the process is available here.

Audio

21. What audio solution does the headset use?

22. How do they work?

  • The speakers sit 10mm away from your ears and direct sound into them using Tectonic's Balance Mode Radiators. This design provides extremely immersive positional audio.

23. Will other people be able to hear what I can?

  • Depending on the volume there is minimal sound leakage, however it will be noticeable in a quiet room.

Accessories / Facial Interface / Headstrap

24. What material is the facial interface/face padding/headstrap padding?

  • All of the fabric materials touching the head uses the same woven antimicrobial fabric as on the Index. "Pleather" alternative facial interfaces should be available after launch.

25. Can the facial interface be removed?

  • Yes, the padding around the lenses is attached to a plastic plate which is connected to the headset with magnets and is easily removable.

26. Will third-party manufacturers release accessories for the G2?

  • HP have supplied CAD models of the headset and controllers to third-party vendors who have requested it and it is expected accessories will be available soon after release.

Compatibility and System Requirements

27. What are the system requirements?

28. Does the headset support HP VR backpacks?

  • Yes, however you will need to purchase a shorter cable that can connect to the backpack to provide power. This has not been announced yet.

29. What operating system is required?

  • Windows 10 running at least the May 2019 update.

Support

30. What warranty is provided?

  • The heaset has a 1 year limited warranty with 1 year parts and 1 year labour cover. Exact conditions may differ by country. The warranty is "worldwide", meaning your headset will be covered regardless of the country you are in, as long the Reverb G2 is officially sold in that country.

31. What is the dead pixel policy?

  • Any dead pixels that appear during the warranty period will be covered by the warranty.

Misc

32. What is the Omnicept Edition?

  • The HP Reverb G2 Omnicept is a separate version of the G2 aimed at enterprise, academic research and developers. It features a suite of sensors that measure "muscle movement, gaze, pupil size and pulse", intended for use in advanced applications such as training and psychological research. It is scheduled to release in Spring 2021, however, no price has been announced.

Fin.

Support STEAMVR CONSTANTLY CRASHES AFTER 15 TO 20 MINUTES

i do a lot of simracing in my free time and recently {a few months ago} an update came out that caused constant crashing on my hp reverb g2 v1 where it would lose tracking every so often { after 10 minutes of gameplay- every minute or 2 for 30 seconds each} before subsequently crashing after another 5 minutes or so. this has been very annoying as it has caused my in game performance rankings in certain games to tank as i cannot play for a consistent period of time. i am using an amd rx 9060xt 16gb before anyone asks. if anyone else has experienced this issue, i would really like to see how consistent it is. if this could be fixed, it would mean the world to me

Question Performance with 9070XT and OASIS driver

hi guys. I'm planning to purchase a RX 9070 XT 16GB to play VR (basically flight and racing games). Read on several places that the experience with OASIS and AMD has been a though ride, specially mentioning stutters, but most of the time these posts are old (2025).
Recently I saw here that a newer AMD driver caused pink screen, but reverting solved the problem.
So I ask if someone with this card can please post what is the actual experience about this combo 9070XT + OASIS + Reverb G2 (or in general, AMD + OASIS) nowadays? Are the stutters still present?
Actually, I use an old RTX 2080, but I have to do all sorts of compromises to achieve steady 45 fps on titles. I have Win11 latest with 7800x3d, so AMD gfx is a better combo, hence the question.
Cheers.

Question Question on PD

My PD is about 62 but when i bought spherical prescription lenses I had them send them as 60. I thought it wouldn't matter for VR since you can just adjust the number to move the lenses around inside of the headset until it feels right.

But does it matter? I am not an optician.

Question Oasis Driver: Can't get steamVR to run due to 'blocked add-ons' from recent crash

I have a HP Reverb G2 I got a few years ago to play Halflife Alex. Decided to plug it back in only to learn win11 doesn't support it. Installed the Oasis Driver and after a LOT of drama, got it to unlock the headset. Now when I run Oasis Launcher it runs steamVR which states: Some Add-ons blocked." Blocked are:

Prism | Oasis | Gamepad Support

- I have unblocked the addons in the SteamVR Settings

- I have added "-safeoutpout" to the Launch Options on the SteamVR settings

- I have edited the steamvr.settings file for these blocks from true -> false (and even erased the file).

Nothing seems to matter, I reboot steam and get the same error message and these three addons blocked. Any suggestions or ideas?

Is there another program or app I can use just to confirm the headset is still working at all?

Thanks in advance

Just a thought. Do people use dual Windows boot to keep Windows 10 as an option for the headset?

Always worried this would happen to me...

The left slider piece that holds the headstrap on the Reverb G2 broke into two pieces.

I fixed it. Now it is much more durable than before. Fused them together with heat. Then joined them using MMA liquid monomer and PMMA powder polymer. After a little trimming and polishing, it’ll actually look pretty good.

Sorry for the blurry shot.

Question Is my cable offically dead or is it my software?

I used my headset 4 days ago and everything was working flawless, that day i stored my cable away just like how i do every time i finish using it.

Yesterday i decided to use it again and boom, it says my USB cable isnt working anymore.

I tried everything. Reinstalled MRP / Reinstalled all USB drivers / Made sure my cable was firmly in place etc. But got no result.

I would have gave up only if the cable looked dead, yet it doesnt look dead at all.

The cable lights up when i plug in power, headset and drivers are recognized in the PC, sound comes from headset when i choose the output. Everything works but it still tells me to check my cable.

I bought another full set of G2 with a broken cable for 10$ and tested that too, still the same issue so i am sure its not my headset.

I ordered a V2 cable for nearly the same price i got my G2 and i hope that fixes everything but now i got one more G2 that requires a working cable. Is there any way i can try to fix this V1 cable and is it actually broken?

Support G2 right controller tracking gets stuck

Hello folks, I bought a very little used Reverb G2 headset in great condition. Everything usually works fine however the right controller at times and with different games loses tracking and only the buttons remain working. The "hand" in the screen view just remains still and doesn't even rotate until I have to power cycle it to get it working again but it repeats shortly after. The left controller works perfect no such issue, ironically the left controller has low battery and the right one is still decent level according to the battery indicator in the taskbar. I turned off LEDs in my room it didn't matter. There is no visible sign of damage/trauma to the controller it's in perfect condition like the other one. Am I just unlucky with a faulty controller or any other test I can do to figure it out? I could swap out batteries but anything else I can do? Thanks.

Support G2 Overheating and black screen

So recently my G2V2 has started the left then right display black screen issue.
Top left of the device can feel quite warm/hot. So I’m wondering, does anyone have experience with this and what the best solution is?
Last time I used it I got about an hour of use before it started happening.

Question Thinking of Buying a Reverb G2

Should I go for it? Are there better alternatives?

Found a good deal on a used Reverb G2, full kit. I've never had VR before.
My PC specs:

GPU: 1070 Ti
CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x
16GB RAM

I realize the GPU is technically under what it recommends, but I figure it's close enough to a 1080 to still be okay. Primarily intending to use it for VRChat and perhaps a few other games like Beat Saber or something. Don't really have my eye on many VR games tbh

Question What to do with bulk units

Post image
144 Upvotes

Our company recently switched over all of our customers to the Meta Quest 3, and now in my possession I have somewhere around 200 HP Reverb G2 units. I was curious if anyone here had any suggestions on what to do with them beside just throwing them out. 90% of them have the v2 cable and function fine. Picture shows a very small amount of the headsets I have around the office. We do also bundle the cable with a long USB cable that went to a Leap Motion that we had attached to the front of the headsets. For removal, I'll likely unbundle the cables and clean the adhesives from the Leap mounts off the front. I also have a very large box of controllers, but there's no good way to know which controllers are for which headset. Was just curious if y'all would just throw them away, recycle them, or if anyone knows of a place to wholesale the lot.

Edit: Hello everyone! I'm glad to hear that you all think there is still value here. Yes, this is in the USA for those who asked. I'm currently confirming with my powers at be (boss at work) to decide what route we'll take, but it seems as though Ebay is the best. If cables and headsets are posted in the near future, I'll update this post with a confirmation (not the link as I don't want to upset the mods). Thank you all! These units are used so we have to discuss pricing.

Discussion Dealers using stop production for sales?

Edit: well HP/Honda... what can I say. Wrong sub my friends. Apologies and hope you had a laugh! I got a call from the Honda dealership where I purchased my 2019 Ridgeline several years ago. They made mention of the fact that Honda was temporarily halting production, which meant that they had special deals on 2026 Ridgelines. My question, is anyone else receiving similar calls? Is it just a sales tactic or would there really be incentive for dealers to unload 2026 stock at this point?

Support Just got a new (used) unit, but won't power on--is this what the infamous "bad cable" is?

Got a pristine looking unit still in its box for a good price, but I can't seem to get any power to the headset at all. The little light on the box just won't come on. Is this a sign of the broken v1 cable everyone talks about, or should I try to find another power brick first?

Support Headset lenses flickering/black

After years of use, my Reverb suddenly started acting up. The left lens is entirely black as if its not receiving any power, and the right lens will flash to life every 15-20 seconds ago and then immediately shut off again. The headset is still able to power on and track properly, but I literally cannot see. Am I screwed, or is there anything I can try to fix this?

Support Hp Reverb G2

Hi, I recently got a used hp reverb g2 for a cheap price and ipd slider seems to be broken. It only moves from max ipd to the middle and than just stops and doesn't let it move closer together. Are there any known fixes for this?

Question G2V2 face gasket

The gasket on my beloved G2V2 is getting tatty and the padding is coming away from the frame.
I purchased a third party version from China, but it isn’t the V2 slim version.
Anyone have an idea where to source a V2 face gasket replacement?

Thanks in advance.

Support Headset not working after repair.

I recently replaced one of the screens in my Reverb G2 and now the screens aren't coming on. The headset is tracking and the sound is working but no visuals. Anything I can try before tearing it all the way down again? Or maybe a place I can send it as I'm not ever sure what I'd be looking for if I took it apart again.

Question Blue screen tracking issue

To start of I know about the neccesary headroom that is required to have a smooth signal.

The HMD was working fine for a long time. Even on my 2080ti. It is now on a 4080 so the GPU should not be the issue.

The thing is that it works fine on another pc by directly plugging it into the USB-C.

This confuses me as I dont think it is the cable. It might be that something went bad on the type C connection between cable and motherboard. But even with an adapter in another USB 3 port does it behave like this.

The main symptom is that the screen inside would turn blue for a few seconds then it drifts in random directions and recalibrates. It does feel like it happens when my head is at certain angles which seems like a prime connection at the HMD it self. The cable worked fine as mentioned before for a long time.

I dont think it is the drivers as my Samsung O+ still works flawless. They both instantly find the center reference point when calibrating for VR launch environment.

At this point i am very confused as I can't pinpoint the problem between software and the cable or its ports. Because at one stage it kept telling me it needs to be plugged into a high speed USB 3 port while it was and working well before.

Latest nVidia driver

Rtx 4080

B650 AX Gigabyte motherboard with latest bios

All latest motherboard software installed

Reverb G2 v1 cable

Apart from buying a new cable can someone recommend something I might not have not tried yet?

Edit: so the culprit was the connection between the cable and HMD as you constantly take the HMD on and off. I test a lot of VR games and 2D to VR from Geo11 and HelixMod on a weekly basis. So the cable needs to take a lot of wear and tear around the pivot mechanics. The temporary solution would be to move the cable as far away from the head strap movement to have the least amount of tension around the cable terminals. A̶l̶s̶o̶ g̶i̶v̶e̶ i̶t̶ s̶o̶m̶e̶ r̶o̶o̶m̶ t̶o̶ m̶o̶v̶e̶. Not so sure about this anymore. It comes down to the less the cable bends and moves the better it would be.

Edit2: I can also add another thing I found out which is pretty strange which would explain why the HP logo doesn't come on but immediately after connecting it to a different PC. If the 4-1 appears and the HP logo on the front of device doesn't come on it helped to unplug the power cable coming from the wall socket out of the small power supply that gives power to the cable box. Basically the first connection after the wall socket. Could reproduce this issue twice already. After this the HMD did not drift or lose orientation after a short period of testing. It appeared very stable. So primary issue I can ascertain with certainty in all this testing was rather a power issue somewhere.

One suspicion so far is that there might be some static interference in the small power supply or somewhere else. But doesn't make sense that this had to happen after such a long time of using the device. If it is static electricity building up then it would need to be discharged periodically. This is just a hunch. TAKE CAUTION if this is the case then simply UNPLUG the small power supply and touch the terminals to a nail in the wall

A far fetched idea could be that the cable rubbing against the the chair could cause static build up. It might have been a coincidence but after the cable made contact with the chair's synthetic leather it "blued" out for a few seconds. Another really far fetched idea could be that the frequency of the electricity is not stable in the area.
