I need suggestions on best places to visit, stay, eat at and just in general any tips for a foreigner visiting china. Are there specific apps I need downloaded or any sort of restrictions or problems I might face. Can someone staying in GZ for 9 days also make a trip to HK? How expensive will a 10 day trip will be in general?

I am looking for reliable shoe suppliers/dealers from Guangzhou, China, especially for new trendy women's shoes (fashion heels, sandals, loafers, flats, sneakers, etc.).

I am not looking for big factories because I want to start with small quantities (low MOQ) and test different designs first.

I tried searching on Alibaba, but most suppliers are factories with higher MOQs. I heard that many Guangzhou shoe market sellers (Zhanxi Road, Baiyun area, etc.) sell good quality fashion shoes with lower MOQ, but I don't know how to find them online.

My questions:

1. What is the best way to find Guangzhou shoe dealers online?
2. Are there any platforms besides Alibaba (1688, WeChat groups, Xiaohongshu, etc.) where I can find individual wholesalers?
3. How can I get direct WeChat contacts of reliable women's shoe sellers?
4. Any recommended markets, suppliers, or sourcing agents in Guangzhou?
5. What keywords should I search in Chinese to find trendy women's shoe wholesalers?

I'm planning to study at SCNU in Tianhe, Guangzhou on an X2 student visa (up to 180 days). Unfortunately, the university dormitories are unavailable, so I'm now trying to understand the real cost of renting privately.

I only speak beginner Chinese (simple sentences like "I like to sit in the park with friends" or "I don't like this food"). Because of the language barrier, and because I'll be renting alone as a Black woman, I'm honestly quite nervous about finding somewhere to live. I know some landlords are reluctant to rent to foreigners, so I'd really appreciate honest advice about what I should realistically expect.

I originally thought I'd only be paying around 1,200 RMB/month for a dorm, but now I know I'll need to rent privately.

Housing

• How much does a studio apartment near SCNU in Tianhe actually cost?
• What could I realistically get for 2,500 RMB, 3,000 RMB (my maximum budget), 3,500 RMB, or 4,500 RMB per month? Is 4,500 RMB really necessary for somewhere decent?

Lease & payments

• Since an X2 visa is valid for up to 180 days, is it usually possible to get a 6-month lease?
• What should I expect to pay upfront? One month's deposit plus one month's rent? Two or three months upfront? Or would landlords expect the full six months paid in advance because of my visa?

Living costs
I'm recovering from depression, so I don't cook. I naturally eat one main meal a day because I'm used to intermittent fasting. I'm happy eating Chinese food every day (fried rice, noodles, meat dishes, etc.), and even somewhere like KFC is fine.

• Roughly how much should I budget per day or per month for food?
• How much should I budget for transport if I'm mostly travelling around Guangzhou casually?

Any advice about renting in Tianhe or things you wish you'd known before moving would be greatly appreciated.

Would you recommend taking two Didi cars to Gulongxia, or would it be better to hire a private car with a driver that can fit all 8 of us?
