Quick Question: If we're going to give Kyle Rayner a new costume design in Green Lantern, can we at least make critical design elements like the symbol on said costume consistent?

Context: This appears to be an old flyer for an in-store signing my great grandfather did at a comic shop. Thought it was pretty cool!

We made it folks. The best first appearance in the entire run. Guy Gardner debuts. I've never read this one and I've been so excited to get into it. Little did I know it's like one of those "What if Machine" episodes of Futurama.

"Earth's Other Green Lantern" - Hal is on Oa so the Guardians can show him some machines they have. One such machine allows them to view an alternate reality. One Hal had in mind was if the ring hadn't chosen him when Abin Sur died. As the machine shows, if Abin Sur had selected the other candidate, Guy Gardner would be the Green Lantern of sector 2814. Events follow fairly similar to Hal's journey, until the first fight with Sinestro. After Guy brings him to the Guardians and heads home, he takes a different route than Hal did. This route brings Guy close to a planet called Ghera where all the adults died out from a yellow plague, leaving only the children behind. Furthermore the children have all stopped aging. Their civilization was advanced so the children have lots of advanced tech and robotics to play with but they've also developed telepathy.

Guy is dragged down but two dueling robots, one orange and thr other blue. After stopping their shootout, Guy asks why they are fighting as the robots reveal they are in a war game set up by the children. An orange faction and a blue one have ever been at odds. Guy decides he will try to right this wrong but as he comes to a group of children, they telepathically take over his mind. Guy is but another robot to the blue faction who send him out against the orange faction. He destroys many orange robots until the orange kids and blue kids fight for control of his mind. Guy pushes his willpower to break free of both and finally gets them to settle down. The children agree to a truce and live in peace with the promise that Guy will visit again.

Guy rushes home to recharge his ring before it runs out of power, just making it before chanting his oath:

On world's afar or scenes at home,

Wherever the cause should make me roam,

Always I vow to fight the good fight,

To combat evil, with all Green Lantern's might!

Soon after, he finds he's contracted the yellow plague, and since the ring is powerless against yellow, it can't save him this time. Guy summons Hal Jordan as his replacement and acts as a pseudo Abin Sur for Hal. Hal takes up the mantle and creates his own oath.

With the story finished, Hal thanks the Guardians for that insight and asks if he can meet the real Guy Gardner. They say it is okay, so he heads out to find him. They make quick friends and promise to keep in touch.

Conclusion: Like I said before, this felt like Farnsworth showing Fry an alternate reality. I wonder if this is where Matt Groening got the idea? I'll be honest, I didn't know what to expect here. I knew this wouldn't be anything like the Guy we know now, but I guess I still thought he'd be rougher? I know he gets into a car accident later on that changes his personality some, but shit, this Guy is just regular.

Personality aside, the story itself is interesting, the alternate one that is. Planet Ghera sounds interesting and I wonder if Hal would try and locate it now to solve the problems there, but how would he avoid the yellow plague. Damn shame that Guy dies, but DC loves Hal Jordan that much I guess.

Finally, Hal locating Guy and becoming his friend is just weird considering the future. They barely get along and seeing them like this is almost unnatural. As a guy fan, I still loved it and I can't wait to see the real Guy again, 80s/90s notwithstanding.

I just look at Lanterns, at old man Hal, who's 100% dying at the end of Episode 1 or by the end of the first Season and just sighing. Which is also why I'm abstaining from watching or even supporting Lanterns.

It's insane how much money DC would make if they just adapted everything from Geoff Johns Green Lantern, Dave Gibbons and Peter J. Tomasi and Tony Bedard's Green Lantern Corps, Green Lantern Emerald Warriors by Tomasi, and everything in the New 52 up to the end of Wrath of the First Lantern with Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Green Lantern: New Guardians, and Red Lanterns.

There's a reason up to the end of this era of Green Lantern it sold so well that it was competing with other heavy-hitters such as Batman and so on. It's because this GL Era was written so well and with such interconnectivity that it was insane that they pulled it off as well as they did.

One poor DC decision/content at a time, i get to understand him a little more. Just let him reset time and start again at this point.

Its not much but we see a magazine referencing Coast City in the DCU.

3. Hal Jordan Parallax (Zero Hour: Crisis in Time)

I didn't read said story's myself yet, but these appear to be the strongest versions of Hal Jordan so i was curious how they're scaled.

Both have some real Maverick vibes. very confident and very driven, which is both their greatest strength and weakness. don’t know how to give up, and will achieve any goal that they set for themself. But they sometimes takes it too far, becoming reckless and obsessive in the process. they also doesn't know how to compromise, which has negatively impacted their relationships and career.
don’t have much respect for authority and are frequently irreverent (which gets them into trouble), But they are also charismatic and loyal to their friends,

they also both have the whole “losercore” thing going for them that’s become pretty prevalent in both their characters.

That's something that needs to be cleared up. This article from EW mentions this. John is being trained as a backup hence the "Fucking Substitute Teacher" line from Hal in the trailer.

Edit: Yeah SOMETHING is gonna happen to Hal, it's obvious since Kyle Chandler isn't signed on for anything but he's not training John cause they think he will anytime soon but just if the time comes, they'll have someone ready.

So basically I wanted to know what if a character in fiction is a white lantern (from DC) and has completely mastered his powers and the life equation, with a strong connection to the life entity itself scale to?

So I was watching the fosters with my girlfriend and saw that Jake T was switched with Noah Centineo and I searched him up and he seems like a great casting for our boy Kyle Rayner but who knows maybe it just me

Hey guys, I’m very new to buying any Green Lantern comics or keeping up with the stories. I know there is a recommended reading list and I have looked through it. I’m considering buying one of the omnibuses, but there are quite a few to pick from. I’m hoping to get the omnibus that has the Sinestro Corps war.

Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War Compendium

Is obviously the move for just that. But I was also hoping for one that told some of the lead up.

Green Lantern by Geoff Johns Omnibus Vol. 1

Seems like it wouldn’t be a bad purchase or place to start. And it looks like it has some of the Sinestro corp stuff.

But I also considered buying

Green Lantern: Rebirth Compendium or even Green Lantern: Kyle Rayner Rising Compendium

Any direction help or recommendation would be appreciated. Thank you!

So I keep seeing the leak im sure everyone else saw by now. Im nit sure why so much of the Fandom is against the idea of Hal being....(dont read on if you haven't heard the leaks)......... Killed. Its not like that has not canonically happened. Some would even argue that when it did happened we got some of the coolest GL plot lines ever.

Also if it is "Parralax Hal" does that not open the doors for the big bad in the DC cinematic universe being Parralax, the fear entity itself. I mean it is a universe ending entity after all and is quite a formidable adversary for the Justice League or friends or whatever. If they do take this route that just means that the Green Lantern Corps will be that much more involved in the shows and cinematic universe. Why are so many against this possibility? Its not like Guy and John are "bad Lanterns" they have some of the best story lines.

Hal struggles with emotions. Not his, but still his? I guess.

"Peril Of The Powerless Green Lantern" - Hal is given a vacation from his job, so he goes to a nearby town for some fishing. While there, he sees a fire break out so he heads over as GL to help out. He saves people inside but before he can help with the fire, he gets a random urge to steal jewels. Across the street is a jewelry store that is being robbed at the same time, so Hal crashes in and fights off the robbers then takes off with the loot. Once he gets further away, the urge subsides and he returns the jewels. The shop owner thanks him and Mentions the robbers were already taken away by the police.

That night Hal goes to take in a movie at the drive in but an earthquake causes a giant crack in the ground. Instead of fixing it right away, he ends up running with the crowd, until he sees a man saving his date from a crushing boulder and that gives him the drive to stop the crack and save the people. The Guardians have noticed what has been happening and figures Hal is going through battle fatigue as many GLs have in the past. The take away his ring and order him to have a vacation from GL work. Hal reluctantly obliges and goes to a field to enjoy the breeze. He over hears two people running from a bear and jumps in to save them despite not having his ring. After the bear leaves, the two are introduced as Eve Doremus and her little brother, Buddy.

Eve is so grateful to Hal that she invites him to stay at their home, owned by their father Mark Doremus, the owner of the Cosmidor Corporation. Hal is astounded by Eve's beauty and the two hit it off. The next day, some robbers break into the Doremus mansion, leaving Hal to change into GL without his ring, hoping his appearance alone will bluff them into surrender. It doesn't quite work as they notice he has no ring.

At the same time, a Guardian was inspecting Hal's ring and notices a crack in the power jewel inside, which caused radiation to leak and the emotions of the piepme around Hal to become his own. They send his ring back to him just as the robbers shoot at Hal. His ring saves him at the last second and Hal takes down the robbers with ease. Eve is worried about Hal and runs to his room with GL following, trying to figure out how to explain his absence when Hal walks out of his room to meet Eve, much to GLs surprise. It turns out the Guardians created a temporary duplicate of Hal as an apology for the misunderstanding with his ring. Hal then heads back his job, promising to come visit Eve again soon.

Conclusion: The cover is cool and the story was actually white interesting. Not a traditional villain involved, and even though there a plain robbers, they add to the story instead of just being a reason. Eve debuts here and lasts for a bit. I guess she is technically Hal's first girlfriend as Carol never really took that step with him.

Reading this in modern day also leads to a thought about if the emotional spectrum was a thing back in the Silver/Bronze ages. Would it have lasted? How would the stories have evolved going forward? Imagine if Hal's urge to steal jewels was really orange energy infecting him. But since this isn't that, how did the Guardians not know about a malfunctioning ring? You'd figure they would have something setup to notify them.

End of, it's a fun story that I think lasts the test of time. Not many of these issues do in the same way. And that cover! One of the best.
