One of my favorite Goosebumps covers and one of the strangest twists. What happened in this book to cause it?? I’d love to hear any and all theories.

DISCUSSION Books That Should’ve Episodes

Is there any books you would like to see as episodes.
I feel there were so many amazing books in the goosebumps universe. Many didn’t make it as episode but which books would you like to see as an episode or even follow up. Since Slappy got a few and Monster Blood got a kinda follow up. IMO I wish Perfect School got a follow up. But what books would you have wished became a visual

HorrorLand Survival Guide & Chiller House.

Hi everyone. Like many, I love One Day At HorrorLand and want to get the HorrorLand series. In the UK, at least, box sets typically only contain books 1-18 ending with Slappy New Year. How essential is The Horror At Chiller House in terms of completing the story?

In addition to this, the survival guide seems very cool but the only copies I could find were hanging around the £20 mark. Is there anything in it, lore wise, that would make it a must have for HorrorLand fans?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully getting to meet RL Stine

Hi guys!

New to this subreddit, but I’m a lifelong goosebumps fan and the books were a BIG part of my childhood (read all the original run and used to own them to but sadly lost them at some point).

I’ve reignited my love for the books lately by reading through them again. I’ve also started writing again and RL Stine is a big inspiration for me.

I just got time off work to go to the West Virginia Book Festival in October to see a panel hosted by RL Stine and wait to get a book signed by him. I’m so excited, as I never thought I’d have the opportunity to do something like that. I’m also excited because there will be several booths setup that sell the goosebumps books, so I’m hopeful to start regathering my collection of the original 62.

Not much else to say I just wanted to share the cool news. I also wanted ask what book you guys think I should take there to get signed?

I’m leaning werewolf of fever swamp because I love the cover and that was a favorite of mine as kid. As well as my introduction to the series.

I recently went through my collection to see how many first printings I have of the original 62 Goosebumps books.

I forgot I had this hardcover but I don't remember where I got it after all this time.

Can someone help identify if this is legit? I know of library hardback. Is this one?

DISCUSSION Thoughts on Give Yourself Goosebumps Books?

After years of slowly building my collection, I finally have all of the original, first 22 books in the Give Yourself Goosebumps series. I'm fine capping my collection at this point, since the rest of the books in this series use a different cover format that I don't really like, nor have any nostalgia for.

I read (or reread) all 22 of these first books in the series in twenty days. I made sure to read each book more than once, trying out the (usually) two main story paths. If I died too early though, I backed up and followed a different choice until I felt like I got a good amount of each story. I would guess on average I read about 40-45 pages of each story path, so this is about 90 pages of each book. I did not read every story path or choice, which of course might have shaped my ratings. If I rated one of your favorites low, maybe I just got a lame story path.

Overall, I think these books were much wackier than I remembered from my childhood. I was expecting some RL Stine cheese (which there was much of, including many, many bad puns), but I was surprised at how... not scary, a lot of these stories were. Not that Goosebumps is really "scary" in general. But in a lot of these, the "horror" almost felt like an afterthought. Stories like Scream of the Evil Genie, Secret Agent Grandma, and Little Comic Shop of Horrors, among others... the stories felt like we were dipping more into fantasy and sci-fi, than horror.

That said, I was not expecting much from the books. And it took a lot for me to give a book a bad score. The main things that soured my experience were whenever I lost the feeling that I was in the story, or the book didn't deliver the on the premise of the title/summary. This usually happened during the many, many, many random scene jumps in the series. The amount of trap doors, giant slides, or characters walking through a doorway and inexplicably finding themselves in another location was shocking, to me. For example, in Attack of the Beastly Babysitter, if you do the Games story path with Dare, you find yourself jumping from one random location to another, including: a black void, a desert, a frozen lake, and a medieval castle, all the while fighting off tattoo-monsters...? Like, sure. But none of that felt like I was in a scary babysitting story, so that took me out of it. That might have been the worst story path of the series that I read, but the book's other side with Zoe taking you to KidScare with the rats was better and saved it from being the worst book. Very "evil Chuck E. Cheese" vibes, which was fun.

On my last slide, I made a list of recurring elements I noticed in the series. This was very inspired by John Wolfe's "Revisiting Goosebumps as an Adult" youtube series, where he rereads/rewatches the original books/tv show and has created a "GooseBingo" with the audience to keep track of the tropes. Feel free to use these to make your own "Give Yourself GooseBingo" or make a very dangerous drinking game.

The tiers I posted are roughly ranked best to worst, but a lot could move around. Overall, my favorite book was Escape from Camp Run-for-Your-Life; bordered into the sci-fi, but the camp elements were fun and I always loved the camp Goosebumps books. My least favorite was The Knight in Screaming Armor; weird random scene jumps (walking through the museum box and suddenly being on an English moor with gnomes or pixies or something dancing around... and the whole "Good Knight" and "Evil Knight" choice was strange... could have been much more organic).

I give the series a decent B- overall. Would love to hear others thoughts. What's your experience with these books? Has it changed since childhood?

GAME R.i.P Goosebumps HorrorTown, perhaps one of best goosebumps adaptations and games in a long while

Post image
82 Upvotes

For those unaware, Goosebumps HorrorTown was a City builder mobile game based on goosebumps of course, lasting from 2018-2026, after not receiving any updates for 2 years and officially being shut down by the developers Pixowl who themselves are defunct as of this year. This game was really impactful for the community and adapted plenty of books and relatively more obscure characters in the goosebumps franchise. Such a shame we'll never get something like this again. If anyone wants to see exactly how this game was like now that it's unplayable, I recommend watching Grimokan's YouTube channel as he's archived plenty of the events and storylined on his channel.

I love those goosebumps actors that appeared in more than one episode and other canadian TV shows

Like i'm seeing goosebumps characters that would never interact...interact but in different tv shows/universes like magical school bus. Like Drew from attack of the jack o lanterns and gabe from curse of the mummy's tomb interacting with each other, I also didn't know that the actor who played drew voiced sapphire from steven universe i love that
