AITA?

AITA? I was out playing 9 holes in the late afternoon, it was slow, like 5 minute wait per tee box slow. I'm solo and the group I was paired with never showed. I'm standing on the 4th tee box and the group behind me says "did you start on the first hole or just jump in" I said, excuse me? He said, "did you have a tee time or did you just jump in" I said, yes I have a tee time, he asked what time, I TOLD him the time, he then said, stop hitting multiple balls... Am I in the wrong here? There's no one in my group, there's 5 minute waits on the tee box, I'm not holding up pace of play, I'm only hitting multiple approach shots (not tee shots unless par 3).

Would appreciate some tips

A few things I noticed from the video was that I looked super tight, and I seem to dip down and then extend way too much when I come down on the ball. What can I do to work on this?

*Edit*
I have golf shoes but didn’t bring them with that day. Didn’t seem to slip at all, but it appears to be an issue.

Without even seeing a swing video what are the top fixes you know you’ll see in the comments every time?

Leaving a practice session after very few swings

You ever drag your ass out to the driving range and just call it quits after five or six balls?

Warm up 60 degree - thin, worm burner

Switch to 9i - fat so hard it ricochets through my body

Driver to clear the air - deep slice, deep slice

I just let the kid next to me know that the balls were all his, and got the hell out of there.

Brutal.

Any ideas what I did wrong?

Followed a crisp drive with this horrible shot with my 52 wedge yesterday. By the way it came off it looks like I hit the hozel, but when I pause at impact it doesn’t look that far off the center of the club, any ideas? Anything with my swing I need to improve here?

Diagnose my swing (high slice)

Why do I very frequently have this miss? A high slice with an occasional push. What can I do to fix this? A little later in the flight, this ball went extremely farther left onto the other fairway.

Wrist hinge, over extension, and grip

I’d love some feedback on a few things about my driver swing. I’ve been as low as an 8 handicap, but that has quickly gone back up recently. I was playing really well, but have become a little bit of a head case, particularly with driver. Now I have too many swing thoughts in my head and am not sure what I’m doing right or wrong.

This swing is from a few months ago. Since then I have focused on a more neutral grip, less wrist hinge at take-away, dropping the club behind me as I fire my hips, and keeping my weight directly over the ball in the backswing. Since focusing on those things, I have lost distance and have had trouble getting on the fairway from off of the tee.

My swing speed with a driver is around 115, but I’ve always had trouble keeping the ball from spinning and slicing. Since I’ve made changes, I miss left a lot more frequently, but that usually happens when I’m not trying to hit left and a wild fade or slice will still frequently come into play.

Wrist hinge: this is the part that I’m not sure if I do right or wrong. In this swing video, my first move and swing thought is a wrist hinge, then begin the shoulder turn in the takeaway.

Grip: Since this video I have been practicing a more neutral grip, but it’s so awkward and I tend to revert back to a strong grip without thinking about it. My strong grip doesn’t usually negatively impact my irons, so changing grips between driver and irons is a tough mental adjustment.

Over-extension: this one, I’m sure is obvious, but you can see that I tend to overextend. I have been working on that, but I’m afraid that it’s costing distance, and my ball flight will still go wild.

Weight distribution: this might be the biggest thing in my head right now. I’ve always been focused on shoulder rotation, but I have gotten so hip focused that I think it has taken away from my shoulder rotation. My thought process is to push my left knee towards the ball as I push my right glute back. I do this when I’m about half way into my shoulder rotation. It tends to work when my timing is correct, but it was much easier when I simply let my shoulders turn my hips without thinking about it.

Sorry that I don’t have a more recent swing video, but I’m really looking for the things that I was doing right in that video, so that I can go back to it being more comfortable. I also want to eliminate the things that were blatantly wrong, but, ultimately, have much less to focus on in my swing process.

I have a strange problem, input of any kind would be appreciated. Explanation included.

I am in a very strange place with golf atm.

I used to golf a lot when I was young. I didn't have a lot of money but played a lot of twilight golf and pitch and putt. I played quite a bit, the course in this video is a pitch and putt I used to play 3-4 times a week because it was cheap. The longest hole is only 90 yards. I also spent a lot of time at the driving range.

The start of the strange part is that I love golf but never took it "seriously", I just loved doing it. Never tracked the yardage on my clubs, never got any lessons, kept score with pals but never in a serious way. I didn't really care about how I looked or played, it was just fun.

Life went on and I stopped having people to play with so it just petered out.

The attached video was the first time I played golf in probably 10 years. My kids are old enough now so me and the wife took them out. The video is maybe 3 holes in to the course.

A few months after this video I got bad news, I found out at 40 years old that I had avascular necrosis in my hip and had it replaced in January of this year. During my first month of recovery, out of nowhere my best friend took up golf and is super in to it. He knew I used to play and has been pretty excited to get me out there with him.

The thing is I'm still recovering. All I can do is exercise and stretch and take small swings. Its a weird, strange situation because I find myself offering advice to my buddy about his swing, and some about clubs. But because of the way I used to play I feel like maybe I shouldn't be giving my buddy advice at all. I honestly have no clue if my swing or my game is good or bad. It was just the nature of how I used to play the game.

I just kind of want to put this clip out there and ask if I should be giving anyone advice? Is my swing bad? I honestly have no idea, I'm just excited to recoup and get back out there.

Any input would really help me get over a stupid mental hurdle.

Golf swing after 17 year break

I hadn't golfed since high school until a friend asked me to play a round with him a few weeks ago, and I have been having a lot of fun playing again. I can walk to the range and have been going on my lunch breaks.

I was never a good player in the past, and I didn't really get lessons. Decided to get a lesson this go around, but it was pretty bad. It was a 30 minute lesson and other than just relax and swing, the only feed back he gave me was to learn how to shot shape with my wrists so id know why I am hooking or slicing a ball.

I have been trying out the swing coach app the last couple of days and usually its reporting that my down swing is steep, and its especially bad with the driver. I have been watching some videos and I tried a few things out to shallow it but I haven't been able to get the feeling yet.

Any one have some tips, or suggestions on how to find a good coach? I am kinda put off after my first lesson as it did not feel great spending 70-130$ on a lesson to not get much out of it.

Hello!

This is my second time on the golf course. I’ve mainly been hitting the driving range trying to figure out how to swing. Anyone have any helpful tips?

Thanks!

Working on cleaning up my takeaway by keeping my hands more inside while keeping the clubhead outside my hands. The camera is slightly behind me, so it may look a little more inside than it actually is.
My biggest issue now is the downswing. I still cast and flip through impact. Every time I try to keep my wrist angles longer and bring my trail elbow in, I either shank it or leave the face wide open. I know I’m still a bit steep, but I can’t seem to stop casting without creating a completely different miss.
What should I be focusing on to fix this?

Can’t Get Off The Tee With Driver!

Need help with my driver in a bad way. Miss is normally a push that starts right and goes right. And then the random big pull/duck hook will show up out of nowhere. I cannot get off the tee with driver consistently. Way too many penalty strokes with driver in hand.

Feel like my driver swing looks solid overall but there’s gotta be something going on that is causing the inconsistency.

Caught what basically feels like my best swing ever - thoughts? I’m a 15 hcp, started 2 years ago, and been struggling with consistency but recently my swing has totally changed and I finally feel like I’m more consistently hitting good shots, to a certain degree.

Best drill I've found

I have a real problem with swinging over the top, it's always been an issue. I came across this drill/practice technique recently and tried it for the first time tonight. The aim is to hit the middle ball without hitting the outside balls.

I cannot explain the difference it has made and how it totally rewired my brain to swing more on plane than I ever have. My contact, distance, direction and launch angle have all significantly improved. It takes a while to get used to it, but give it a try if you swing over the top like me!

N.b yardage with a 7 iron and crap range balls (ignore curve, not the right target)

Edit: aim to hit the middle ball
