Planning a first trip to Spain from the U.S. in late September and considering Madrid, Seville, Granada, Mallorca and Barcelona.

Is late September a good time for this route in terms of weather and crowds? How would you divide 11-12 days, and are there any cities, day trips or experiences must do?

Interested in food, architecture, scenic walks and doing 2–3 activities per day without rushing.

Every summer, our bandilla del verano gets back together. We all live in different parts of Spain, but for the past eight years we’ve returned to the same courts for a few weeks of friendly competition, catching up, plenty of laughs, meals out and dancing into the early hours.

It’s become one of my favourite traditions. The friendships have grown naturally over the years, and every summer we simply pick up where we left off.

If you’re moving to Spain, find something you genuinely enjoy doing. Whether it’s padel, pickleball, hiking or dancing, it’s often those shared interests that turn strangers into lifelong friends.

I'm a Brazilian living in Ireland,19y old , planning to do college in Madrid..

My reason to move is bc i want to build my life in Europe and not go back home.In Ireland i can be just 3y with the student visa and its too difficult to get a work visa or a permanent permission

I've visited Madrid once but just the city center i don't have a clue how it's really to live there

My biggest problem with Ireland is sharing house, I've passed through 3 different accommodations i had big problems in all of them paying really expensive to live in there (shearing just with Brazilians)

I never had problems about my perceptions living abroad as an individual person but sharing accommodation drained all my energy

I don't know if i can move to Spain planning to be there for at least 4yrs and don't have a good quality of life at this point

For people that know about Madrid how is the house commerce and finding jobs?

Hi everyone, I'm planning a scouting trip next winter to check out places that I might be interested in buying a home in to move to. My criteria so far look like this.

• Villa with a pool for around 500,000 euros.
• Walkable and bikeable area.
• Public transit available.
• Mild winters. More sun desired and not constantly windy like the north coast seems to be.
• Warm summers, but not unbearable summers like Madrid, etc.
• Expat/foreigner friendly is a plus
• No schools needed, no visa needed

So far looking around the edges of Valencia. Barcelona seems out of my price range. Also considering Portugal as well - southern Lisbon for example.

I'd be happy for people to share their tips - ideally not just an overall city but a specific neigborhood/area.

M26 looking for a place to stay in alcobendas or a 20 min drive away, for me my wife and my 1 year old daughter. I have gotten a work oppertunity. I have worked and lived there before so i know how hard the home market is, but maybe there is someone on this platform that thinks i am suitable to rent from them as it happend before. I want to try to stay between 1000 and 1300 euros max. If anyone has any advice for places to look at. Most places ask 2 month pay slip, but i am moving from belgium and can only show my contract and the previous payslips when i worked there a year ago.

My husband and I are going to Paris for three days to see a show of our favorite artist. My desire to see the Alhambra has spurred us to tack on a 10-day Spain and Portugal trip. Traveling either early September or mid-October.  Here's more about us, our likes, and dislikes.  We feel a bit like weirdos compared to the average American tourist. Any advice on where to go is much appreciated!

- Live in NYC.  Glad to visit another great city but don’t need to be wowed by a place simply because it is a city.  

- We don't want constant transit. Would rather really explore a few great places for 3-nights each,  though realize there might be one or two places we wouldn't want to stay that long. 

- We spend a lot of time eating and enjoying food.  We can afford and appreciate fine dining, but are just as happy with a hole in the wall that has fantastic food.  

- We are very happy to leave tourist areas and go off the beaten path, glad to be the only tourists in a restaurant. Great local restaurants are a nice way to lure us into neighborhoods we wouldn't otherwise see.

- Love old architecture, libraries, churches, little old towns, seasides, markets, history, gardens, county sides, grungy cities, historic cities. Sitting nice places and reading.

- Hate chains, touristy stuff, bars, clubs, nightlife, cigarette smoke, modern architecture.

- Glad to sit in nature for a bit but we are not hikers, bikers, or outdoor adventurers.

THE QUESTIONS:

My husband down right hates Gaudi.  Do we bother with Barcelona if we have no interest in Gaudi, contemporary architecture, and don’t care about night life?

Where should we go? What is an ideal itinerary?

How long to stay in and around Granada to see Alhambra?

I am a BTech (AI & DS) Final Yr student . I actually was thinking to study abroad but i dont have that clarity in my mind . I thought of multiple options like UK , Germany , USA , but i want to try it in Spain if its good . I am currently doing research about it how is it there and all , the job situation .I want to do Masters in AI/DS field .

Because i know the fees and the living cost is going to be lot because of the difference between ₹ and € , so ofcourse i will be taking out student loan for that . I have heard many cases like students did masters abroad and was unable to find job because of the market and had to come back , that would be the worst case because paying out such hefty loan in India will be too hard .

My family (age 65, and then 4 of us in our late twenties) is planning a trip to Spain in late November. It’ll be about 8 days total and we want to see at least 2-3 cities. We’re deciding between:

Fly into Barcelona, train to Valencia

Or

Fly into Madrid, train to Seville, Seville to Malaga or Granada, and back to Madrid for a few days to finish the trip.

I’m leaning towards Madrid so we can see Seville, Córdoba, and another city… but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts.

Considering: weather, food, walkability of the city, etc. my FIL wants to see multiple cities as a priority but we’re open to either if there’s a better choice.

So, I'm looking for an appartement. I'm planning to move to Spain in a couple of months, in the meanwhile my partner had an appartement who she payed rent for.. But, the owner decided to sell the place after a couple of years. She lives in Barcelona and is planning to stay there for her work, so I'm looking with her for a new appartement but the problem is that she doesn't earn much at the moment because the only pernament position she had was part-time, then she at least knew that she had a pernament position. Ofcourse, I'm new to this and I really want to help my girlfriend finding an appartement. Are there any websites that you guys would recommend except for idealista? Since, that's the only I knew.. Hello, my father was born and raised in Spain. I have his Spanish birth certificate as well as my apostille birth certificate, officially translate, etc. I have been using a service to setup an appointment with the Spanish consulate here in Miami to apply for citizenship and so far I’ve been waiting almost a year just to get an appointment date.

My question is, if I have a trip to Spain coming up anyway is it possible to just bring these documents with me and apply in person at an immigration office in Madrid?

Following up on my last post about NLV vs Digital Nomad Visa (thanks for all the responses), I saw some comments that triggered this writing. This one's about something that happened to my family twice now, two years apart, and I think the "just wait 90 days" advice going around is actually costing people time they don't need to lose.

Back in 2024, five of us submitted renewal applications. Four came through in about six weeks. My wife's just sat there. Everyone told us the same thing: wait 90 days, then go to the office. So we waited. Full 90 days. Then I booked an appointment and went in person. They handed me her approval letter on the spot. Turned out it had been approved the whole time; there was just some tech glitch and the notification never went out.

The letter was dated the same as everyone else's. So the 90-day wait did nothing for us except cost us 90 days.

Fast forward to 2026. We just applied for long-term/permanent residency after 5 years here. Everything was submitted online like normal. Three days later, my wife and I both got a notification asking for our kids' school enrollment certificates. Honestly, that one was on me; I'd attached those documents to the kids' applications instead of ours and fixed it within hours.

Kids' visas got approved in 10 days. Mine and my wife's just sat on "documents required" for four weeks. Nothing moving.

This time I didn't want to repeat 2024, so I looked into it more and found there's an actual formal channel for this, a reminder letter you file through the Spanish government's electronic registry. I did that and got my approval 5 days later. Total time from application to decision this time: 6 weeks. Not 90 days.

So if you're in that "documents required" limbo and it's been weeks with no movement, here's the process that worked for me:

How to file a formal reminder (Registro Electrónico General de la AGE)

Go to https://reg.redsara.es/es/ (this is the General Electronic Registry, accessible via Punto de Acceso General or the REG/REC service directly)

Log in with your digital certificate, DNIe, or Cl@ve

Fill out the generic form. It'll ask who's submitting (you, with your NIE)

Under "Organismo destinatario" (destination body), pick the office actually handling your file. This part matters most; get it wrong, and your letter goes nowhere. In our case, it was "Subdelegación del Gobierno en Alicante" / "Oficina de Extranjería en Alicante" since that's where our application was based. Check your original acknowledgment or requerments to find yours.

Under "Asunto," write a clear subject describing what you're following up on

Attach: your reminder letter, letter of acknowledgment of your initial application, the original requerimiento PDF, the justificante showing you already uploaded the requested docs, and optionally a screenshot of your current status

Review, sign electronically, submit

You'll get a PDF receipt (justificante de registro) with a CSV code. Save this; it's your proof the reminder was officially filed

That last step is the whole point, honestly. It puts a timestamped record into the system instead of you just hoping someone eventually opens your file.

Not a lawyer; this is just what worked for us based on two rounds of dealing with this. If your situation is more complicated, I'd still get proper advice, but if you're just stuck in limbo with no updates, this is worth trying before you burn another 60 days waiting around.
