Experiences So I was cleaning (technically) and found something cool…

So earlier this morning as I was getting ready to open, one of our hooks of box cutters fell behind the monitor and into a little slot where said monitor sits, and as I was digging around trying to get them all back, I found a small stack of these from 2009.
To say my jaw dropped when reading them is an understatement, but I still found it extremely cool.
Anyone here remember these?

Vent/Rant The one day I requested to have consistently off is not being respected.

Whenever I had applied, I directly talked with my manager to let him know that I either need Fridays OR Saturdays consistently off, and that I cannot be working both in a week because those are the only days I get to be with my partner. We have four people active and one that just started yesterday, I should not have to be scheduled for every. Single. Friday and Saturday. And yet for the past two weeks I have both Friday and Saturday scheduled AND I have Friday & Saturday scheduled for the two upcoming weeks after that. I’m starting to get royally pissed off that the ONE condition I had with getting hired is being completely ignored. We have FOUR people scheduled for both days, I do NOT need to be there for both when I exclusively open and everyone else can open & close. There shouldn’t be four people behind the counter when my store barely has the space for THREE. It’s so stupid. I’m definitely gonna talk to my manager abt it and give him an earful bc the only reason I considered it is because I was friends with him before being hired. I keep getting the most random days off, like??? Why am I getting Sunday and Thursday off?? Why did I get three days off this week but I’m scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday??? One of those three days off could’ve EASILY been Friday or Saturday so I could have a day off with my partner. It isn’t rocket science, for fuck’s sake, it’s a schedule.

Vent/Rant Membership expired

An end of an era . I may have been one of the last people with a membership. Once PlayStation announced no more physical games , I felt like it was time to get rid of their rewards program

It’s been real GameStop .

Discussion Here's the deal. TPCI is NOT happy with GS. They've warned them 3 times about price hikes & limits over the last 2 yrs & yet GS refuses to listen & raises PB & AH AGAIN. Dont be surpised if TPCI pulls distro. Idk if GS survives that with everything else going on with games etc simultaneously. 🤷‍♂️

Question Pre-ordered game still not in

So i pre-ordered echoes of aincrad for xbox but as far as I know it has not come in. I went to the store and asked and they looked it up and it's not even say that it's in transit so they think it went to a completely different store. So my question is: can I get a refund for the purchase since I haven't received the item yet?

Question Has anyone tried ordering an unreleased game on Uber Eats? It’s stating I’m able to make an order for SR, (which comes out tomorrow) today. I’m unsure if this would just auto cancel it, or if it’d actually go through. Lmao.

Question Accidentally bought the same game twice

So, I'm almost afraid to post on here, but I figured that you all would know way more than I would about this. To preface, I am currently on a business trip so do not currently have the game with me. I have a Pro membership and accidentally bought the PS3 God of War saga twice. The second one apparently came in the mail yesterday. I am assuming that it was in my cart when I was making other purchases and just overlooked it. I am wondering what you all think the best route to go would be? Should I return it to my local GS or should I attempt to ship it back to the selling GS?

Thanks!

Question Preowned games

Are employees being trained not to give customers the original boxes? I was buying a few preowned games and the cases I pulled off the wall were the original but after the employee grabbed the disc I didn’t notice he put one game in a black case (the one on the wall was a green Xbox case) and the other in a generic GameStop case. I didn’t notice until I got home but when I went back a week later for another game I noticed that it was done again with a different employee except this time I saw the original case I pulled from the wall on their counter behind them and asked to swap them back. Are they being asked by managers to give out generic/third party cases for games?

What are the cash and trade in values for the New 3DS XL and New 2DS XL? I can’t find them on the trade in page on GameStop and was curious if anyone knew.

I had to replace the sticks a while ago, because they started deteriorating and deduced, "wouldn't it look cool if I swapped a couple of buttons and panels?"

You think they'll turn me away?

Discussion Genuinely lost on how to pitch PRO memberships now. Any advice?

My metrics were great before these changes! The triple threat of losing discounts on TOPPS products, points towards coupons, AND the reduction to $15 for the year with a purchase of a new game just feels like far too much.

Basically all sports card collectors are no longer renewing and they definitely aren't signing up if there's no benefit. The new game was always a great opportunity to get the membership cheap. The points were genuinely a top selling point for me as well.

Now it seems like I can only offer the $5 coupon and the 5% off, which just isn't enough.

Yes there are pro exclusive deals, but they don't happen often enough to justify a whole membership. For example, both of the big deals this week don't require a pro membership, so why would someone sign up when they already get the deal?

It's even harder to pitch to pkmn card fans now too. No more points means you're relying on that 5%. But then what about the casual 1 and 2 packers? You know, the regulars that come in to get one or two packs? They were tough to convince before but now it seems like a lost cause.

I'm not looking for ways to "trick" people or anything either. I do genuinely believe the membership saves people money if they shop there, but convincing customers of that has become incredibly difficult now.

Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Question Dear guests, why do so many of you do this?

Post image
336 Upvotes

Using the question flair cause I'm genuinely curious, but why do so many guests do this for the hooks that have the two prongs? You see that the rest of the stuff is on the lower one. It is legitimately harder and more hassle to get on the upper one. Some of you I'm starting to think are just out to make our lives harder cause I really don't wanna think you're this dumb, even if a lot of people turn off their reading comprehension when they walk into a store.

Question OTHER THAN A SCAM- What could an old lady possibly need $100 in steam currency every 5 days?

***FOR 7 YEARS***

We have our Steam/Razer/Apple gift card regulars. Some are obviously getting scammed

But one in particular is bothering me.

Shes 60yrs old (guessing) and buys either a $50 steam card every 5 days OR $100 steam every 5 days.

I just looked at her hyrule hub and it has been every 5 days SINCE 2019

Is there absolutely any scenario that anyone could make up that would actually require this much steam currency??

Experiences A moderator and a former manager’s final trip to a store.

I worked for this company for longer than I should have (most of my adult life) and at FAR more locations than anyone in their right mind would. I used to joke that I was the most traveled GameStop employee in history, and at this point it may not far from the truth. From the perspective of someone who was once ride or die for this company, here’s a tale of GameStop fucking me over one last time.

Prior to this, I had probably been in a GameStop about 6 times since I left in November. A couple preorder pickups, a couple trades just to get things out of my house, and one trip to the store my friend used to work at just to see it. Not like I’ve had all that much of a reason to go in, but it’s also been mildly inconvenient to do so because the two stores left near me are 1) out of the way on my drive to work and 2) in a mall that’s a pain to get into despite being across the street from work. I decided that while the preowned values for 3DS models are booming, I’d go ahead and trade in my New 2DS XL and get a PS Vita because there’s more that’s available through homebrew that I care about. Simple enough, right?

In no way did I expect them to have a Vita actually available in store, and of course I know how much of a gamble the website is, but I went ahead and took the risk anyway. I ended up behind the damn counter showing the associate how to do a WIS, explaining that my system was a “New” 2DS XL and not a 2DS, and explaining that I could simply buy a refurb SD card rather than being hit with an exorbitant refurb fee on the system (although I’m fairly certain the N2DSXL doesn’t require an SD card on trade in, but not a big deal). WIS went down, no surprise, so I took the trade card, ordered it myself, and got the fuck out of there because I felt sick to my stomach being behind the cashwrap again. None of this is in any way the associate’s fault, and I do not blame them in the slightest.

Against my better judgment, I chose refurb simply because retro training has always been so worthless that I was afraid I’d get a PSP if I relied on preowned. I received an absolutely filthy, scratched, and dented Vita, and I could have lived with all of that if the damn thing powered on, which it didn’t. Begrudgingly took it back, ordered a preowned one as a replacement, and hoped for better, but not the best considering it’s GameStop.

Thought this replacement was all good, it was in FAR better shape (not perfect, but as close as I could expect), powered on, and was clean. Went ahead and downloaded roughly 100GB of games before I realized the left analog stick doesn’t work. At this point, I’m perfectly content with spending $10 to not have to go back to the store, so I order a replacement analog stick…and it doesn’t fix the issue. I make sure there’s not a plugin affecting it, I download a third party tester app to test all of the inputs, and there is ZERO sign of life from either the original or replacement analog stick.

Fine. I’ll go back and get a third fucking PS Vita. I knew what I was getting myself into, this is somewhat my own fault. Thankfully, one of the locations near me now has one in stock by some miracle. This was also one of the last two stores I worked at, and the staff hasn’t changed, so I know they know what they’re doing. I do the exchange, and of course it was previously homebrewed without it being removed properly. After about 2 hours of figuring out how to fix that, I finally seem to have a fully functional Vita. It’s not the slim model that I wanted, but it was taken in as one so I got an OLED screen for free rather than paying the like $60 difference.

I’m not going to pretend I was a fan of the company at all after working there for so long. I had some great times working there and have done some truly stupid bullshit on the clock, but those times are well in the past and I spent almost the last 3 years there (in addition to a year and a half prior, but not consecutive) absolutely miserable. All that said, after being a customer for so much of my life and spending quite some time working there, this is ever so slightly bittersweet, but I can’t bring myself to set foot in a GameStop again after this debacle.

To those who are still employed there, I wholeheartedly hope you find far better very soon. To those who are still shopping there…why?

I bought a good bit of games back on the 10th (side note, still have several that haven’t even shipped yet, what a joke) and the total is what you can see $114.84. Why tf is there a charge of $63.47? I didn’t buy anything yesterday or anything else since July 10th for that matter. This is my GameStop credit card FYI if that makes any difference

Question Returned an item not present

Hello again Reddit, Im back with more job anxiety and questioning how badly I fucked up today.

A guy came in with an Xbox Original console and a controller that was completely smashed into pieces. He bought it online 9 days ago, it had just come in today, and he had it for about an hour. He wanted a refund, but after having been instructed to talk to the DM i was told to exchange it for a new one, which I did. He bought a new console and a new controller, having exchanged the ones he bought. He did not bring in the controller that came with the Xbox - there should have been two controllers, there was only one. I did the exchange anyway. It took an entire hour to do with the extra controllers purchased, having to call the DM and dealing with the computer crashing.

I already hold myself as walking on thin ice with the previous console fiasco (which youll be happy to know has NOT happened again!) and I get the feeling my manager is absolutely pissed at me. I cant blame him, I should have paid closer attention.

This is my second major mistake. I already know theres nothing I can do, manager already told me. Given the previous thread, it does seem that there are worse mistakes out there, but please, I need either some words of encouragement, a harsh reality check, or to be informed that my job is gone.

Send help.

Edit: Should mention at the time of this event I had thought that he brought everything together. I completely forgot he needed the controller that came with the xbox as well. I an probably completely and thoroughly fucked with this one

Edit 2: Ive been at this store for maybe a month and a half now if it helps

Experiences Forced "free" warranty. Normal behavior?

This happened a while ago, but I was thinking about it today for some reason.

A year or so ago, I went into Gamestop to buy a game. As I was checking out, the cashier asked if I wanted a warranty. I told him no. He tried pretty hard to get me to buy a warranty, but there wasn't a shot. The sales pitch was pretty annoying even though I gave a simple, but strong NO. It felt like he was shaming me for not wanting a warranty.

He then asked if I had a pro membership. I said I probably don't have one anymore, but we can check anyway. I had to get a pro membership back during covid in order to buy a PS5, but I let it lapse.

I gave my number to him to put in. He clicked/typed around on the computer and said oh actually the warranty is free. I said alright cool well thanks.

When he gave my receipt, it showed that I paid whatever for the warranty, but on another line item it showed a discount for around the same amount as the warranty.

It turns out he used a discount or points I had saved up on the warranty. I told him that he needs to refund me, use that discount towards the game, and not the warranty. He was pretty ashamed and kind of back tracked, but admitted it and did the refund. I didn't cause a stink about it since he complied, but it did rub me the wrong way.

Is this normal? It seems really scammy. The one time since then I wanted to buy a game, I just went to Walmart to avoid dealing with stuff like this. When I was younger, I played more video games, and I remember Gamestop being pretty annoying with trying to get you to buy stuff you don't need, but I feel like this was another level.

Vent/Rant Gamestop stole from me

Long story short I did a online order in store. Gamestop never sent it. After waiting for a month or so I asked for it to be canceled and for a refund to be given. They told me ill have it in 7-10 days. A month goes by... I ask them where my refund is. They said they cannot give me one cause the store messed up or something and I have to go back to them to get my money back. I paid via trade credit.

Problem is.... I live nowhere near that store. I was visiting and im also disabled with mobility issues. Ive asked multiple times for a refund and they just refuse and tell me I need to go to that store. Im beyond fuming at this point.

Every time I order from the online site there's an issue, customer service always tells me go back to the store expecting a new employee on single coverage can spend all day on the phone with customer service trying to figure out what to do.

320 bucks down the drain

Vent/Rant That B almost got me…

So I haven’t been in a GameStop in a while (I don’t live close to one) but I popped into to one today all I can say is what the actual fuck?

While I was shopping, I was forced to overhear the clerk arguing with a couple over the fact that she decided to ring everything up under one person, even though she had just sold a membership to the other one.

Not like that matters, I don’t think (I don’t have the membership) but Jesus Christ lady, just take the shit off the sale the dude didn’t want and sell those things to the other person. It’s not that deep. No reason to argue with customers.

But then it was my turn to get rung out for my stuff, a few used games. First she tried to sell me the membership, which I understand, but when I told her no, because I live too far away to take advantage of it, she got all pissy about how much I’d save on my purchase today, and that I’d be a fool not to sign up.

For the record, I’d have saved about $7, at the cost of I think she said $25 or $30. Not a great deal for me.

But then…

She says “here’s your total with only 1 year of protection from the discs stopping working,” and asked me if I wanted to “upgrade” to 2 years of coverage.

Da fuq? Is this what GameStop is now? Slamming insurance on video games? Not a $1000 cell phone, not a car, not a house, but video games.

Get the fuck out.

Of course I told her no, I didn’t want to upgrade, and then I had to tell her twice to take off the insurance she had put on the sale, without my permission!

And she had the nerve to take it off and say me “you know, if you were a pro member, the money you’d save on those games would almost cover the protection.”

😑

And if that wasn’t bad enough, she then informed me that there was no returns allowed for my purchase if the discs are scratched or don’t work unless I pay for the protection.

Do you think she was pleased when I asked her if she was knowingly selling me scratched discs, that I should not expect to work in my console?

If it wasn’t for the fact I was there, and they had games I wanted for about the cost of buying them on eBay, I would have left with nothing and not been too upset, but I can guarantee I won’t be back after that visit. That was some grade a bullshit, and I can see that some people get got without even being aware (their own fault or not) that the whole thing is a scam.

And what’s worse, is that clerk was the damn manager.
