Landscaper recommendation?

Our landscaping guy passed away last year. We only used him for bigger projects like tree pruning and removal so we had no need for a replacement until now. Thanks to some health issues, some projects were neglected and now we've got a bunch of azalea bushes that have been overtaken by vines and our front landscape bed is overgrown with weeds that have grown into plants. Also, we have some overgrowth in the back (which is already overgrown due to previous owners installing ivy, but we now have a weed tree growing).

Looking for someone that works on their own - not a big company with tons of overhead. My husband is a home improvement contractor and used to refer the old landscaper to his customers for landscaping and snow removal so that's a possibility if we like the work.

Chirp every 30 sec

Hey everyone!

I am dealing with a frustrating mystery noise in my townhouse and need help tracking it down. It is a low, faint electronic pitch/chirp—not the loud, piercing screech of a standard smoke detector.

Here is the situation: - **Location:** I can only hear it in my main-floor living room, the bedroom directly above it, and the opposite bedroom across the hall. It is NOT my ceiling smoke alarms (all three are 10-year sealed Kidde units showing solid green lights). * It is NOT the internet router or modem (those are down in the basement). The main HVAC unit is down in the basement. Because it is so faint and low-pitched, it's incredibly hard to pinpoint. Could this be a dying backup battery in an old security system keypad, a hidden smart hub, or something else entirely? Any advice on how to find it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!!

Gaithersburg’s public works department wants to rewrite how the city decides when a new development must prove it will not choke local roads, proposing the first overhaul of the city’s traffic impact study standards since 2012. Brian Fields, director of public works, and Doug Smith, the city’s traffic engineer, laid out the draft changes at the mayor and council work session on July 13th.

Question H-Mart & 9 Ranch Food Court?

Greeting all,

I am planning to take a trip down to Gaithersburg, to make an Asian food supply run in a few weeks. I am traveling from extreme Western Maryland (Asian food desert) to both H- Mart and 99 Ranch.

I am trying to find out what if any food courts are in these 2 particular stores to plan my day, and hopefully enjoy a meal while I'm there. I cannot find online what restaurants/food vendors are there. Can anyone tell me what places are inside these places to get a meal. To my understanding some H- Mart like the one in Frederick has food courts and some dont.

TIA.

Question Missed Connections

Hi guys! I know this is a long shot but I’m looking to see if anyone can help me find a missed connection in Starbucks on Spectrum Ave. I’m looking for a man who was working there (not an employee) on his laptop around 10:30am today. He was bald with facial hair, named Jeff (according to the cup), and on the phone while I was waiting for my order.

If anyone can help me find him, I was the girl in the green shirt and jeans and would really like to ask him out.

Final recruitment round for an IRB-approved university study: female athletes 14 to 17 in the Rockville, MD area (closes August 29)

I'm a PhD candidate at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, wrapping up recruitment for a resistance training study this fall, and we need a final group of participants in Montgomery County. Posting this as a parent-facing recruitment call since the athletes are minors.

Quick version: a study comparing micro-dosed and traditional resistance training and how each affects speed, change of direction, lower-body explosiveness, and strength in youth female athletes during their season. Most of the study is already enrolled, and we're closing out the last spots.

Eligibility:

  • Female, aged 14 to 17
  • Currently playing a sport
  • No current lower-body injuries or pain
  • No lower-extremity surgery in the past 6 months
  • Not already in a structured strength program outside their sport

Logistics:

  • 10 weeks total: 2 weeks of testing plus 8 weeks of training
  • Testing covers speed, change of direction, lower-body explosiveness, and strength, done before and after
  • Athletes are randomly assigned to train 2x/week (60 min) or 4x/week (30 min). Group can't be chosen.
  • Primarily in person in Rockville, Monday through Friday after school. Limited hybrid option if you have gym access and can train independently with provided materials.
  • Study runs August 31 through November 3, 2026

Risk is low, basically normal training soreness. Enrollment closes August 29, 2026. First step is a short pre-screen form: https://rmuohp.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_e2U7LNWUIrWTUFM

Happy to answer questions in the comments or by DM.

Climate Action Plan Community Survey

Our city is currently developing its Climate Action Plan, which is the roadmap that will set the citywide goals for reducing GHGs, building climate resilience, and advancing sustainability.

They recently released a community survey that will help the city prioritize policies/goals.

I filled it out last night, its pretty quick. Wanted to amplify it here!

My wife and I are moving to Maryland and looking to make friends. Details below! Drop a line if interested. Thanks!

Hey all! My wife and I are moving to Maryland and will be living near Columbia. We are looking to make friends with couples, or solo as well.

We are both interested in the outdoors, eating, fitness, traveling, and exploring new local towns. I am a mountain biker, and she enjoys running at the gym. I like music and going to concerts. She is a psychologist, and I am a science teacher. We are both easy going and enjoy life. We look to be supportive friends, and find people with similar interests.

We would be interested in meeting up with couples/ or solo friends that are in 30's. We drink from time to time, but do not smoke.

If any of this strikes a cord with you, or we have commonalities, please drop a line below. I will reach out, we can connect on rchat, and eventually hopefully meet up for coffee in person.

Take care, everybody!

Gaithersburg City Hall Moves Forward with Lowering Taxes on Property Developers

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — The Mayor, City Council and City Hall want to axe the school-crowding fee levied on new development projects that increase Gaithersburg school student enrollment.

On July 6th, the council voted 3-0 to allow for public comment on repealing the school tax until August 14th, with a policy discussion penciled in for September 8th.

The Planning Commission has not made its recommendation, which is scheduled for August 5th. But minutes after that hearing, the same three members waived the fee for a 232-unit development without asking a single question.

City Council Opens the Record for Public Comment on 700 Professional Drive Development Plan

A developer wants to build a senior living community of up to 425 age-restricted units on 8.9 acres at 700 Professional Drive, and on July 6th the Mayor and City Council opened the public hearing that will decide its fate. Three council members were in the room, exactly the number the city charter requires to hold a meeting at all. No member of the public testified. What the applicant said from the podium and what the applicant asked for in writing were not always in alignment.

Government Everything you ever wanted to know about how Gaithersburg evaluates the traffic impacts of new development…but were afraid to ask.

We are holding a work session on Traffic impact Studies tonight July 13th at 7:30pm. I’ve been calling for a deeper look at how these traffic studies work, whether city standards still reflect today’s realities, and how we can find ways to increase public awareness.

Join us (virtual or in person) - https://gaithersburgmd.iqm2.com/.../Detail_Meeting.aspx...

🚦 We’ll dig into:🚦

  • How are traffic impacts calculated?
  • When is a Traffic Impact Study required?
  • How do engineers predict where new trips will go?
  • Who prepares the study, and how does the City independently review it?
  • How are pedestrians, bicycles, transit, and safety considered?
  • What improvements can be required when a project creates or worsens a problem?
  • How the City is updating standards to meet today’s needs?

Mrs O'Leary's

I have look this up online and have not been able to find the answer. When did Mrs O'Leary's at the intersection of Clopper Mill and 124 close?

We used to love to go there back when we lived in the area in the early 2000s. Memories of going there have popped up with surprising frequency recently and I was curious when it closed down.
