Saying “Yes” to my wife more often has had some benefits. I got a case, a bunch of figures (several complete), weapons, accessories, and random vehicle parts for $40. Put new O-Rings on them and they’re ready for duty.

Storm Shadow [v2] - G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Figure - (1988)

Storm Shadow [v2] - G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Figure - (1988)

Storm Shadow was a fan-favorite, both in the comics and the cartoon. It’s a shame that he didn’t get more figures made of him. This was also the second and last regular retail figure I bought in 1988. I did not have a full collection of ‘88 figures.

From his file card:

Storm Shadow served with Snake-Eyes in Southeast Asia and both of them later studied the secret arts of Ninjitsu with Storm Shadow's family, a ninja clan that could trace its history back through thirty generations of assassins. Unhinged by the murder of his uncle and mentor, he infiltrated Cobra, seeking revenge but found vengeance to be a poor substitute for life. Now, in semiretirement at a remote mountain hideaway, he occasionally takes on a special mission or two – if Snake-Eyes asks him nicely.

"A ninja is a silent wraith with a razor-edged blade in one hand and a scaling-grapple in the other. Ninjas can penetrate the most sophisticated defenses and leave without a trace. They are mystic swordsmen, spies, assassins, acrobats, quick-change artists and conjurors. Most people will tell you that ninjas don't exist. That's exactly what the ninjas want you to believe..."

44 Freakin Years

How does it make you all feel that this franchise still stands tall after 44 years?
I was born in 87, and I've been a fan all my life. I know there are people who were probably playing with the original 13.

When it went cold in the mid-90s I thought I'd never get more Joes, but here we are with a successful toyline, bringing back the characters we loved. We have two comic runs going strong, one with Hama still writing, and we have another movie in the works, probably at the best time to give a live action adaptation a shot.

It's quite surreal to me. YoJoe

What Was Your Childhood G.I. Joe Headcanon?

Upvotes

When you were a child, what was your G.I. Joe headcanon when playing with your toys?

Did you follow the cartoon or comics, ignore them completely, or just use the file cards as a starting point and create your own universe?

What kinds of battles did your Joes fight? Who usually won? Did anyone get killed off, retire, or switch sides? Did your stories continue from one play session to the next, or did every battle start with a clean slate?

I'd love to hear about the storylines you came up with as a kid. Sometimes the stories we created in our own imaginations were even more memorable than the official ones.

For me, battles often spanned several play sessions, although I'd usually come up with some explanation for why characters who had died were suddenly back. Every vehicle saw action, and sooner or later they all ended up crashing.

Figures with missing thumbs were always the first to get injured, while figures with broken O-rings usually met a more permanent fate, getting blown up or cut down with swords. (I had no idea back then how easy O-rings were to replace.) I also used red paint or markers for blood and injuries. I could usually wipe most of it off afterwards, but as an adult trying to restore those same figures, I definitely regret that decision.

The handful of comics I owned sometimes became part of my own continuity, and I'd often borrow ideas from completely unrelated movies. The file cards were always the foundation for each character, though. If I didn't have a file card, I'd rely on whatever I remembered from the cartoon or comics. And if I knew nothing about the character, I'd simply reinvent them into someone who fit my stories.

I will never forget how disappointed I was to not get William Perry as a little kid in Chicago. I had all these left over flag points and finally cashed them in on two of these.

$10 off $20+ purchase - Amazon prime - for limited time

Upvotes

Here's a chance to pick up a $20+ item with $10 off. This applies to many of the classified figures. You have to find them manually as far as I can figure. I paid $2 for a week of prime to get my Stinger faster so I'm eligible for this. I was looking for something to buy today. First you search on amazon for "gi joe classified." Then in your browser, press ctrl+F and search for "prime savings." That will highlight all the items with the $10 discount.

This is one of the figures that has the discount. It's a $26 figure and you can get it for $16

Is it just me or ReAction+ o-ring figures...

...seem to have too large and flat torsos, too large and flat crotches, and legs that are just too thin in comparison to the original Hasbro ARAH figures?

EDIT: Minor spelling.

Hydro-Viper with Devil Ray - G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Figure - (1988)

Hydro-Viper with Devil Ray - G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Figure - (1988)

I always loved this figure. His look completely fit how Cobra was evolving in the toy line. This was an elite trooper that was surgical altered to withstand the depths. And, he looked like an underwater demon.

From his file card:

Hydro-Vipers are qualified EELS (Cobra Frogmen) who volunteer to be surgically altered to withstand nitrogen narcosis and other side effects of deep diving. Synthetic webs are implanted between their fingers and subcutaneous fat production is stimulated by chemical injections to provide natural insulation. The long term effects of these procedures is known to be psychologically destabilizing...

"I'm sorry, those guys just aren't human anymore. They have a handshake like a dead mackerel and they leave damp spots on all the furniture. I realize that they are virtually unbeatable in underwater combat, but so is a great white shark – and I'll bet the shark is friendlier!"

Found the new Ninja Force ReAction+ figures at Target today… and they were only $20.99?

Post image

Stopped by Target today while they were in the middle of a huge toy aisle reset/restructure and managed to find these two waiting on the pegs!

One thing that surprised me though, I always thought ReAction+ figures were around $25, but these were priced at $20.99 at my Target. The other figures next to them were $19.99, too. (Wild Bill and Mara)

Has Super7 lowered the MSRP on newer ReAction+ releases, or is this just Target pricing them more aggressively?

And has anyone else been finding these at their local Target yet?

Who was your favourite JOE as a kid and is it still the same one as an adult?

Most of us have probably been GI Joe fans since we were kids, collecting the O-ring figures. Looking at my old collection got me thinking about how my favourite has changed over the years.

As a kid, Shipwreck was my number one. A few others came close (Ace, Captain Grid-Iron and Sneak Peek), but Shipwreck just had something. It was probably the blue pants. I was obsessed with the colour blue as a child.

While Shipwreck will always have a special place in my heart, Beach Head has taken over the top spot, with Shockwave being a very close second and Chuckles in third.

The odd part is that I never even had figures of Beach Head, Shockwave or Chuckles as a kid. I do remember really liking Shockwave's blue design in the comics, while I actually hated Beach Head's design. Those figures were hard to find in Belgium in the early 90s. If I had found a Shockwave, chances are he'd have been my favourite.

So who was your childhood favourite? Has it changed as you've gotten older, or is it still the same character?

Edit: Just to clarify, I meant your favourite character as a kid and whether that changed as you got older, rather than only which childhood favourites you are adding to your Classified collection. Of course, if your childhood favourite is still your favourite, that's part of the discussion too. :)

eBay. Stupid question.

I’m an old guy and wanted to pick up a few 3.5 for the bookshelf. Figured the easiest way to go about it is just google what I’m looking for. https://ebay.io/m/q422Qo

Problem is, when I search, I just get stuff from collectors in sealed and graded packaging. I’m looking for one that’s been opened. I just want to put them on the shelf. It seems like a bit of a waste to pay this much and just open it up. Am I searching wrong? I’ve tried including “open” and “used,” but keep getting the same results. Is it because it’s a special edition? Any advice? I have no idea what I’m doing….
