District 5 - This recall effects us too

Upvotes

I’ve seen some questions and talked to a few asking if we’re able to vote in the recall election as the actions of Fred and Jamie have harmed District 5.

We cannot, only the citizens of District 1 and 4 will be able to sign the petition and vote if a recall election happens.

The influence of these council members and their donors will still be in City Hall even if the recall is successful.

Oscar Valadez the current chair of the planning commission and candidate for the District 5 council seat has been supported by Fred, Jamie and the Bushalas.

He uses the fact he grew up on Truslow to try and project himself as a man of the Maple Community.

No one respects him in the neighborhood.
He doesn’t represent us or our values.

A vote for Valadez is a vote for more of Fred, Jamie and the Bushalas in our community.

This is our community D5.

My block started ticketing for parking in the alley. Where do we find parking now?

I used to park in the alley behind my house for the past three years. Now we are getting ticketed after signs went up.

No drive ways on property, no permit on our street . We have apartments all over on the block next to us and on our corner. They take all our parking.

Took me 2 hours to find parking at 6pm when i get home from work. Any advice? (This is on southgate across from costco, if you know the area, its impossible)

My neighbors put cones out front, but the apartment people move them, and i cant beat the apartment people to the spots. I don't think they ever go to work based on how often i see the cars lol. My wife had to start staying at her moms because she cant find legal parking.

When making a right onto Malvern from Bastanchury and you’re in the middle lane, do you wait until the light turns green or make the turn while the lights red?

I am looking for a new home for my cat cause due to personal circumstances I am no longer in a position to be able to properly take care of her. She is about 7 years old and is spayed and litterbox trained. She's very sweet and friendly towards people and loves to cuddle and sit with you and also likes to play. If you were to take her i can also give her litterbox, food bowl ,food, etc for free. I am willing to drive to drop her off at your house as well. If you or anyone in the area is interested please shoot me a message!

On July 15, 2026, Fullerton Police Department Sensitive Crimes Unit Detectives traveled to the City of Los Angeles to serve an arrest warrant on Claudio Marino HernandezLopez, a 40-year-old Los Angeles resident, following an investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse involving a female victim who was between 4 and 12 years old at the time the reported offenses occurred.
In January 2026, Fullerton Police Sensitive Crimes Unit Detectives began investigating HernandezLopez after receiving a police report from an outside law enforcement agency in Los Angeles County regarding allegations of sexual abuse that occurred within the City of Fullerton.
Following his arrest, HernandezLopez was transported to the Fullerton City Jail, where he was booked for violating Penal Code section 288.7(a). He is currently being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information, or anyone who believes they may have been an unreported victim of HernandezLopez,

New Fullerton Biz Alert: Dollhouse Pilates

I wanted to give this business a quick shoutout. I like the classes and the owner is very nice and enthusiastic. But I have noticed her classes could use some occupancy.

I finally got around to trying out the new Dollhouse Pilates on Commonwealth and Basque. I underestimated the workout. I’m sore every class after. I also like the dimmed lights to the studio.

If you’re looking for a Pilates class give it a try.

New Taxes to Balance Budget

This article mentions that a “critical issue” in balancing the budget is attributable to police overtime and that this is another reason to introduce new tax measures. I hope that there’s an audit done on police overtime before taxpayers are asked to fork over additional funds. There needs to be more transparency in public safety expenditures given it consumes so much of the general fund. Why is it that police overtime for a double what was projected? Why are they getting paid so much overtime?

Images from Library of Congress; photographed by West Coast Art Company in 1910. I can only guess as to the locations. Does the first photo look like Coyote Hills? The second is the Puente Hills looming over Brea, with Brea Canyon on the right; where Route 57 now enters OC from the hills. The third was taken from "Union Hill" which appears to overlook Olinda and the outlet of Carbon Canyon.

Colombian Men’s National Team and their stay in a Fullerton hotel for the 1994 World Cup

I’ve lived in the OC for roughly four years now, specifically moving to Fullerton a year or so ago. I had never heard this story, and I discovered it watching an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary last night called “The Two Escobars.” I was curious if this was a well-known local story or not—and if not, hopefully a few of you find it interesting:

While violence and political turmoil reached an all-time high in Colombia after the assassination of Pablo Escobar, the country’s men’s national team remained a great unifier for the nation. They had been playing exceptionally well during this era (admittedly thanks to the financial investments made by Escobar himself, who was, of course, an infamous drug lord) and entered the ‘94 World Cup as a possible favorite to win the whole thing. In the group stage, Colombia lost their first contest to Romania 3-1. That made their next game against the U.S. a must-win if they wanted to get past the first round. But chaos unraveled the night before the match while staying at their hotel. This hotel was the Fullerton Marriott on Nutwood Avenue.

Apparently, the hotel’s staff was receiving anonymous calls which made death threats against players and coaches if midfielder Gabriel Gómez—who was a mainstay in their lineups—was announced in the Starting XI. The hotel’s fax machine also began receiving similar death threats, and legend has it that the hotel’s TV satellite was hacked and showed the threats on the players’ television sets in their rooms. Similar threats were targeted towards Gómez’s family, so once head coach Fransisco Maturana decided to pull Gómez from the roster due to these violent warnings, the player decided to fly back to Colombia to be with his family. The match was decided after a brutal mistake by one of the team’s best players, defender Andrés Escobar. While attempting to clear a cross by the U.S., he mistimed it and ended up accidentally kicking the ball into his own goal. It was a mistake that tragically cost him his life, as he was murdered in his Colombian hometown just six days later by a group of thugs who antagonized him over his mistake.

Many players believe that their experiences in that hotel caused the team to play much worse than they could have. The U.S. was a team that Colombia had beaten in many friendlies throughout the 90s, and they were confident they would conquer them again. But their psyches had been shattered once they began fearing for their lives and the lives of Gómez’s family. Some players even stated in the documentary that they believed a “witch’s curse” was cast on that night in the Fullerton Marriott. After Andrés Escobar’s death, international soccer in the country struggled to stay afloat, and they failed to qualify for the World Cup again for roughly two decades. Perhaps the team’s fall from grace could have been avoided if not for their stay on Nutwood Avenue? Probably a stretch, but I found this story fascinating! I’ll never look at that hotel the same way whenever I drive past it😂
