The first image, what I got from that scene then, and still do now, is the "Anghkooey" Children asking Tabitha "Why?"....That's what I see.

Likewise with the second image, people have theorised they're pointing at Ethan....Despite showing ZERO interest in him for 4 Seasons....What I see, are victims pointing out the person who harmed them.

"Once they learn the truth about who you are, that it was you the Children were calling for....First they blame you, then they hate you, eventually they kill you.....For Tabitha it's worse".

It's really interesting how Young Jade phrases the above in Jade's vision, after Jade discovers he is killed every cycle by the people in Town.

He never says he is killed because of "what you did"....It's about who he is and the fact the Children were calling for him.

Think about a Child who is in scared, for example, "Calling" for someone. Who do they call out for? Well, firstly, by "Calling For" someone, they're obviously calling for a person who is not there. But secondly, a Child doesn't call out the name of the person harming them, they call out the name of a person they believe can help them.

Those who have had a young Child wake up from a Nightmare, what do they do? They shout "Mummy" or "Daddy" to help them.

Why weren't the Children calling for Tabitha?

I see a lot of theories here and big guesses about stuff in the show and some people trying to make connections and I think personally people are trying to make this show bigger and more complicated than it actually is, and with these crazy expectations you are just setting yourself up for disappointment, just my opinion

Just finished season 4, and I'm confused by a lot of discourse about the show. I see a large volume of people expecting the show not to explain most of the mysteries or pay off on foreshadowing, but hasn't the show pretty much explained most of the important mysteries already?

I'm not sure what there really is left to explain, maybe a little extra lore about what the Man in Yellow is, but whether he is a demon the ancient townspeople summoned, the avatar of an outer god, or an immortal sorceror, it doesn't really have much consequence on the plot since next season is the finale. We've more or less seen the extent of his powers and influence so it seems our protagonists have a chance of beating him.

Last real question left is how exactly the town was created, and "what the god damn rules are" but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a result of the same ritual that turned the ancient people into the creatures. Unless im missing something, I feel like most of the major plotlines have been thoroughly explained and are ready to be wrapped up, am I wrong?

**Disclaimer: This isn't a hate post or a personal attack on the actress. I love this show but I've also read a ton of comments regarding her acting.**

I've tried giving her performance the benefit of the doubt over four entire seasons, hoping she'd grow into her role. But my opinion about her acting has only declined with each new season. That said, I agree that *a portion of this* can be attributed to the writers and redundant lines..unless certain scenes/characters allowed for improvisation.

What confuses me? That Tabitha could be considered the most important character in the entire show, alongside Jade. She's at the center of the story and the town itself, but I consistently find her performance to be the weakest in the cast. For a show with horror elements, her "acting" doesn't give any sense of fear or urgency; I legitimately laughed the first time she was running from the monsters because of how much she didn't sell it.

That's what I don't get. With her (arguably) being the most important character in the town, I genuinely don't understand how the casting directors/writers/producers watched her performance and felt **she** was the right fit for such a major role. And it's not like every character is knocking it out of the park either (Marielle & Ellis are good examples).

Maybe I'm missing something crucial here. But after four seasons I just can't get past her "acting". Am I wrong - should the writers be blamed entirely here? Or do some folks think she's doing a good job? Open to any and all opinions of course.

I started watching the series a couple of weeks ago and I am currently on season 4 episode 2. It feels like almost every character eventually gets a long emotional breakdown, sympathy arc, heart-to-heart conversation or the “talk”(especially from Boyd). After a while, those scenes start to feel repetitive and slow down the pacing for me.

I’m not saying character development is bad, but did anyone else feel this way, or is it just me?

Theory: The Man in Yellow Was Originally Tabitha's Lover, and She's Been Trying to Undo Her Mistake for Centuries

What if the Man in Yellow wasn't always an immortal entity? What if he was just an ordinary person in the original timeline?

My theory is that the original Tabitha and Jade were married, but unlike their current incarnations, they had a happy marriage at first. Then tragedy struck—they lost one of their children, and their remaining two children became severely ill (or perhaps all the children in the town were mysteriously dying or becoming sick).

At her lowest point, Tabitha meets the Man in Yellow. He isn't evil in the conventional sense—he's charismatic, manipulative, and offers her hope. He tells her that he can save the children through a ritual that requires sacrificing them. Eventually, he convinces Tabitha, and through her, the rest of the townspeople agree as well.

This would fit one of the biggest themes of FROM: people aren't usually forced to do evil things—they're manipulated into making impossible choices.

Sara was manipulated.

Elgin was manipulated.

Christopher was manipulated.

Fatima was manipulated.

So why couldn't the original Tabitha have been manipulated too?

I also think that during this time, Tabitha and the Man in Yellow fell in love. The reason I believe this is because of how differently he treats her. He kissed her hand, spoke to her nostalgically, and never treated her like he treats anyone else. It didn't feel like a villain talking to his enemy—it felt like someone talking to a person he has known and loved for a very long time.

Then comes the ritual.

At the last moment, Tabitha realizes what she's about to do and refuses to sacrifice the children. Jade stands with her and refuses as well. Because the ritual is interrupted, it doesn't work as intended.

Instead:

The children die, but their souls become trapped.

The monsters are created.

Fromville is born.

The cycle of reincarnation begins.

Tabitha and Jade are cursed to return over and over again to correct their mistake.

This would explain why the Anghkooey children don't simply ask Tabitha to save them—they want her to remember. They've been waiting for centuries for her to make a different choice.

It would also explain why only Tabitha and Jade seem so deeply connected to the town and its mysteries. They're not reincarnating because they're heroes. They're reincarnating because they were involved in the original tragedy.

And one final thought: what if the Man in Yellow isn't waiting for Tabitha to remember because he wants to destroy her?

What if he's waiting because, after centuries of watching her return again and again, he's wondering whether she'll finally choose differently this time?

Hi, i finished S4 a week or so back and something has been rattling around my mind.

The way Fatima was tricked into becoming one of the monsters. Got me thinking, how many of the others were tricked. I suspect, in a way, all of them.

Now I'm thinking that Fatima may keep some of her humanity, and in some way pass this onto the others, or just the smiley guy. Meaning they have some self awareness about what they are, meaning they may 'work' with the humans against the MIY.

What do people think? Does it have legs?

Been ages since he was on LOST and got kicked off so he wasn't able to fully enjoy the rise and success of the show. Not sure how popular FROM is but at the least he's the lead here.

İt kind of helped From being something that you look forward to and it also crystallized itself to the background in memory. Looking back I will now describe that period of time with From included, "uhh the old days, remember how we would watch the newest episode of From every Sunday?"

I've never seen a logical explanation for this, besides one of the memories/visions is false.

Jade sees his "Previous Versions" at Colony House during his drug trip, none are ripped apart by the Monsters and the conclusion is made that he is killed by the people in Town.

Tabitha has a vision as Miranda, where she goes with Victor and Eloise to the Root Cellar, to "Hide" them from Christopher. She then leaves, Eloise at some point chases after her, and Miranda is chased down by Smiley who runs at her.

So who kills Christopher then?

Miranda's actions and words, "Hiding" her Children from him, means Christopher is alive when she takes them to the Root Cellar.

With no Talismans and with them being hunted down by the Monsters, why would the people in Town be hunting down Christopher? It doesn't make sense. They would be hiding trying to survive.

The theory is about the fate of Fatima and that she’s just a monster now and used the last bit of the humanity that she had control over to save Ellis and Boyd

The real question I have that goes along with this theory is Assuming I’m right (It’s okay if you don’t actually agree, this is just a hypothetical) do you think it would make sense for her to kill Ellis in season 5 or too obvious of a way to go? I think it could be some interesting symmetry to the Jasmine/Kevin event that led it the invasion at Colony House but wanted to see how other people would feel if it plays out that way

Again, if you want to tell me your theories about what you think will happen to this character, nothing is stopping you but I am curious what people think about the asked question. (Sorry to over explain that but the last time I asked this kind of hypothetical, all of the answers were just people telling me they think I’m wrong and then their own theory)

At this point, we know the show doesn't lie to its audience—or at least, that's what we're assuming, right?

Sophia told Clara that she could only take the form of people who had died in this town. That suggests she can't simply appear as anyone she wants outside the town. As far as I understand it, she can't leave the town at all. And even if she could, she would likely have to do so in her true form. I don't think she's ever left the town in her true form.

If we assume Sophia has never left the town, then there's no reason she would know the names of places in the outside world. However, when Martin first meets Boyd, he says he's from Millbrook. That's a very specific place name.

You might ask, "Then how does he know about Abby?" When Martin had the worms inside him, he appeared to possess the same knowledge as the Music Box Monster. So knowing about Abby isn't really an issue.That said, I honestly don't know how the Music Monster knew about Abby in the first place. The show hasn't explained where that knowledge came from, so that's still an open question.

Martin says there are three possible outcomes when you go through a Faraway Tree: you either escape, get trapped somewhere, or they lure you into a trap. This guy was someone like Dale. Like Dale, he tried to escape by going through a Faraway Tree, but instead, he ended up trapped. He was probably from the 1978 cycle or an even earlier one. Although, if he had been from the 1978 cycle, Victor would probably have recognized his name.

He says he's been alive for a very long time. He even says he lost count of the years.
The Music Box Monster wouldn't even let him die. He was begging Boyd to kill him. If Martin had really been alive for that long, and if we assume the show isn't lying to its audience, then the Man in Yellow couldn't have been disguised as Martin.

I think the writers are telling the origin story through the residents. Tabitha and Jade are the reincarnations, but the people around them aren’t just random supporting characters. They’re reenacting different chapters from the original story. I don’t think the writers are showing us that story in chronological order, though. If the original events happened A-B-C, the audience might experience them as A-C-B, because each resident is revealing a different chapter. As those chapters begin to overlap, the original story starts to come into focus.

Theory: What if we’ve already been watching the beginning of the origin story?

The cave drawings suggest the original people arrived by boat. Today, everyone arrives by car. In both cases, their journey begins when they encounter the tree.

Through Tabitha’s memories, we learn that her original soul’s people settled there first. She says the place was already evil, but they eventually learned to defend themselves with the totems. In the present, Boyd arrives in a town already under attack by the monsters and later finds the talismans. Different events, but I think they’re serving the same purpose with a community learning how to survive.

Then another group arrives. If Tabitha’s people came first, then Jade’s people may have been the second group. Today, I think that’s being mirrored by the bus.

That’s why Kristi and Marielle stand out to me. Kristi is already in town when Marielle arrives. I’m not saying they’re literally Tabitha’s and Jade’s original souls. I think they’re filling the same role in the story. One person is already there while the other arrives later. If that’s true, then Colony House could be mirroring the original settlement, while the town mirrors the community that formed after the second group arrived.

Then Ellis and Fatima carry the story forward. If Kristi and Marielle mirror the two groups coming together, Ellis and Fatima may mirror the relationship that followed. They fall in love, get married, and are about to have a child. At first I thought that was the only part of the story they were reenacting.

Then I think we reach the turning point.

What if someone from the original settlement went looking for answers, reached whatever ancient force inhabited the deeper part of the forest, and unknowingly brought its influence back to the settlement?

That’s why Boyd’s trips into the forest stand out to me. I think he’s replaying that same part of the story. Every time he leaves town and comes back, something changes. It makes me wonder if that’s how the original community fell. What if someone from the original settlement unknowingly carried that influence back with them, just as Boyd unknowingly carried something back from the dungeon?

That also changes how I look at the dungeon. Maybe it isn’t showing us where the story started. Maybe it’s showing us what happened after that influence reached the community and the chapter the children remembered.

If that’s true, then the dungeon may not be introducing a new story at all. It may be revealing another piece of the same one, where the effects of that influence begin spreading through the community. That would also explain why Abby, Sara, Elgin, and later Henry all become convinced they have to do something terrible because they believe it’s the only way to save everyone or get home. I’m not saying the mechanism is identical in every case, but I wonder if the writers are showing the same narrative beat through different forms of influence.

Then Sophia/MIY arrives, and Henry’s story changes how I look at those earlier moments. After drinking her blood, Henry slips into an altered state and becomes convinced he has to kill Victor. I’m not saying this is exactly what happened to Abby, Sara, or Elgin. I wonder if Henry’s story is the missing page the writers held back until now to help us understand a pattern we’ve been watching since the beginning, rather than proof that the MIY had to be physically present earlier in the cycle.

That also changes how I look at Fatima’s story. I don’t think she’s only reenacting the original love story anymore. I think she’s also reenacting the children’s captivity and the point where families began losing their children to whatever ritual created the monsters.

In a way, it reminds me of the cave drawings. The show first gave us the end result, but it wasn’t until Fatima’s pregnancy that we actually watched part of that chapter play out. That makes me wonder if the writers are using the same approach throughout the series and showing us the outcome first and only later revealing the chapter that explains how it happened.

If that’s the case, then maybe the monsters aren’t the beginning of the story they’re just the consequence of it. The original tragedy may have started when someone encountered whatever ancient force existed deep in the forest and unknowingly brought that influence back to the settlement. If each cycle eventually reaches the same turning point, then the residents brought into that cycle may ultimately become the monsters of that generation, recreating the consequences of the original bargain rather than the bargain itself.

People like Boyd, Julie, Victor, Randall, Tabitha all had close encounters with the monsters/MIY and then were let go "because of psychological torture"... Even now the man in yellow is walking around among them and he COULD kill key characters that pose a threat without being spotted, but instead he's going around stealing eggs and talismans, making deals, playing dress up, spoiling people's drinks and just overall trying to *get the town to do his dirty work* and murder key characters for him (like they do every time)

It's simple. It reveals "all bad actors" are under chronological narrative constraints and AREN'T ALLOWED to kill some people until a certain point in the plot where they are no longer mentioned in the story. They are only lying the reason for that is to "break them". It's not. It's because they themselves are constrained by the story that keeps playing out over and over inside Fromville

Edit: The reason I talk about story being of the greatest importance, rather than ritual, is because there is very obviously a story there. One which gave the kids hope and "It's not your fear that feeds the forest, Boyd. It's hope.". But it's the kids' hope

That story is why they bring the same cast back to Fromville over and over. Stories have a plot, chapters and above all, characters...Things are repeating every generation. That means that the story narrative MUST BE PROTECTED for some reason, or the events would not be able to repeat. If that is the case you can't just randomly kill off a character by design. You can say it's a ritual, or contains ritual because it follows a sequence, yes. But then there is no hope. But if it's a story there is hope because maybe they can be saved by ending it. Or changing it. Or giving different meaning to the same passages. It just makes sense

Edit2: This could explain why Victor was left alive too The plot demands a happy ending. So to meet the superficial (letter of the law) plot demands, someone is left alive.

This guy walked in with complete confidence, even though he was the oldest member of the group. He couldn't sense that the place was playing mind games with him.
