Trying to get through s4

I'm on season 4 and fighting to stay focused on it lol. It feels so different than the rest of the show so far... like a little more redundant if that makes sense. I've heard season 5 is good though so I'm trying to stay strong but it's kinda hard.

My son had me start watching this show with him…

And I love it! The first season was great but as the seasons go on (I’m on season 3) I feel like it’s more about the mom and the dad, with the dad chastising the mom like I love Lucy

What do y’all think is the worst thing Jessica has done on the show?

Season 3

I’m watching Fresh Off the Boat for the first time and just finished the Season 3 finale, and I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

First, Jessica’s decision really bothered me. I understand the show’s explanation that her insecurities were driving her behavior, but she basically convinced her family they couldn’t enjoy their new house because of her own fears. Maybe I’m looking at it too realistically, but if this happened in a drama instead of a sitcom, wouldn’t most people see that as a pretty terrible thing to do?

Second, why does it feel like nobody is considering Eddie and Emery? The whole storyline is centered around Evan’s feelings about moving, but Eddie and Emery are losing their lives too. Eddie had already struggled to fit in when the family first moved, finally found a friend group, and now he’s expected to start over again. Emery is losing his friends and everything familiar as well. It felt like Evan’s wants were treated as more important than what the other two boys were going through.

And speaking of Emery, has anyone else noticed how much meaner he feels in Season 3? The sabotage storylines and some of his behavior this season have made him come across a lot harsher than he did earlier in the show.

Am I missing something here, or did anyone else have the same reaction to these episodes?

I hate the storyline of Louis stealing his restaurant idea from that big chain

They always make him out to be such an honest man who worked so hard to provide for his family and got a business running from the ground up.

Then they change it and say he actually just stole everything from the big chain (can’t remember which). Not been just the look, the whole policy and everything. Really not like him and not nearly as impressive

I was looking up an episode to see who an actor was, and came across a current or at least, recent photo of the actor who plays Trent.

How can I watch the series in Germany?

Hi 🖖 Is it available on streaming platforms? On Amazon Prime, you need to buy it additionally. Is it there on Netflix? Or any other place?

Jessica, seriously??

If you check Season 4 Episode 8, where Louis opens the envelope of the coffee machine manual, you'll find out that Jessica's "20-page complaint letter" was actually just this text copy and pasted probably a bunch of times:

To the coffee maker people,
As robust as your instruction manual is, I'm wondering if you could possibly enlighten me on what you were thinking when you published it? Without a doubt, this is the largest manual I've ever seen. This should be for the Hubble telescope, not a coffee maker. The fact that you've included 20 different languages might be a tad overkill. Did you ever think of possibly dividing the manuals into continents of countries? Seriously. Lame. All I wanted to do was see how to change the filter, and 2 weeks later I'm still sifting through clock setting instructions? Maybe you should of included a separate manual justfor the clock? Just a thought.... How, I do have to congratulate you on your Mandarin. It was on point. But, maybe in the next manual you'll include some information on the actual brewing of coffee. Every single page is on how to properly set the clock of timer. How about some ideas on how to make a better cup of coffee? Maybe some maintenance tips?

I imagine the "coffee maker people" reading this like it's a fan review of the hubble telescope.

The producers were probably just stumped on what to write that's demeaning and rude to the coffee maker people while making it appropriate, and just started to command+c command+v.

I'm so glad I found this show on accident beacsue this is the funniest show I've watched in recent times. Why is this show so underrated?

this is lowk one of my fav shows

I don't watch that much tv I've watched like this and gravity falls and this is so peak

My favourite character is the grandma, bcs shes hella tuff and funny, but my parents always talk about how shes faking knowing how to speak mandarin, anyways i love eddie, his friend group and obviously the cattleman ranch stuff but I don't like how the restaurant just took off after fajita man, I would have liked it more if the season 1 was used to make it grow instead of it just suddenly becoming super popular.

I dont really like evan that much and think hes a suck up but I think thats the point so its alg, but im not sure if I'm the only one with this opinion but I hate how the fumbled jessica. She started being someone who was not liked but had redeeming qualities and episodes, but by the end I feel like they just wrote her to become a supervillain, idc that the rest of the family are all super nice and she kind of balances them out by being super unapologetic, but it would be nicer if instead of writing her as even more unredeemable, they showed the dark sides of the other characters more (Especially emery and evan).

basically i like the show

Doing a rewatch, this show is very underrated.

I’ve always loved this show, but this rewatch reminds me how underrated it is. Wonder why more people don’t talk about it.

Currently on Season 2 Episode 7.

So sad that it’s over

I just finished watching the final episode of Fresh Off The Boat and I’m so sad that it’s all over. I also find it quite coincidental that Ian Chen is actually in Harvard right now. This is my favourite show ever and I probably will rewatch it again. I disliked Eddie in Season 1 and 2 but his character has grown on me.

Am I the only one who thinks Grandma Huang from Fresh Off the Boat is lowkey badass? 😭

Like she barely says anything half the time, but when she does, it’s either savage, wise, or just completely unbothered energy. The way she just does her own thing, ignores everyone, and still somehow runs the house in her own way… iconic.

Also, her random one-liners and side comments? Underrated comedy gold.

I swear she doesn’t get talked about enough compared to the rest of the family. Anyone else feel the same or is it just me?

DAE dislike Eddie?

I hate how pretentious he is.

I hate how he treats his parents and his brothers.

I watch the show for the parents they carry the show. The two other kids are fine

Is Jessica that bad?

ive just started season 5 of fresh off the boat and I looked through the sub-Reddit and many ppl are saying Jessica gets progressively worse.. I genuinely don’t get the hate cause I kinda like her character as she shows a typical Asian mum? Idk can someone explain to me?

Finished the series,what next? Spoiler

I just finished watching all the season and it was good to mid for me. Spolier alert The first few season were good lost its steam later down the line. Anyways it was enjoyable. The characters Louis , Marvin and Honey were really warm and nice to watch which complemented to that of the Jessica and Eddie ones. Constance Wu played the character so well it makes you hate her throughout it’s like Eddie and Jessica are embodiment of selfishness , narcissism and hypocrisy. Also there were some moments which were not so explained as the others in detail. For example, Nancy and Mitch left the restaurant in a very brief way like Honey’s second child. Mitch was the first employee in the restaurant he deserved some good exit. Also Dave was eddie’s best friend if I recall correctly ,how did trent got the place.

Now that I finished it all what next similar shows shalli watch any recommendations?

Jessica Huang is proof of bad writing and racial stereotypes

The show is about Eddie and his struggles. Real Esdie Huang disliked the portrayal as he considered it too white washed. The show couldn't even stick to an already existing narrative, because it needed to, for some reason, make it all about Jessica and her annoying traits dismissed as "quirks of a tiger mom" followed by everyone around her making adjustments to enable her crappy behaviour. Tiger moms are controlling, no-nonsense disciplinarians who take money seriously. I don't think they're manipulative, selfish, childish, and attention seeking. Even if that were the case, writing it off as comedy invalidates Eddie Huang's struggle. Besides, her behaviour if limited to family would be considered that of a tiger mom but no, it extends to their friends and neighbours, making her just an overall insufferable individual whose traits are disguised as comedy.

This is simply a propagation of racial stereotypes. Just like any other sitcom based on Asian immigrants or first generation Asian Americans (I'll comment only on these since I'm Asian myself), this show fails to rely on anything other than race for comedy. It has the same premise as Never Have I Ever and Kim's Convenience of the first generation American kids finding fault with their parents who are Asian immigrants for having a culture shock and are thus wrong while the whitewashed kids are right, almost as if you want to tell the world all Asian behaviours are categorically wrong. The issue here is that these stories are (most often) written by first gen Asian Americans, so they can never relate to an immigrant and thus show their side of the story.

There has to be a better way of writing this. At the very least, bring a balance. FOTB's idea of balance is making Jessica make racist statements against the whites which are not only supposed to funny but are also acceptable for some reason. Terrible, terrible writing overall.

P.S. Love Eddie and his friends' characters. Really good actors and Brian is the funniest!
