Frasier at Broadway!

Post image

I’m a huuuge lover of theater, opera, concerts, any sort of live performances really. Recently, though, I’ve been on a huge Broadway run, watching shows on youtube, and then coming over to here to discuss and read previous discussions! It was in one of my rabbithole research sessions that I found out that Kelsey Grammer was in a production of Sweeney Todd in 1999!
I was completely dumbfounded, and even though I adore his voice, my initial thought was “This is such a huge miscast!”. Boy, was I wrong! I’m linking the one video of his performance I could find, and it’s SPECTACULAR. Granted, it’s very hard to work with Christine Baranski and mess it up… but the work is just incredible! The intonation, the humor, the chemistry, all very very good. Frasier discusses new recipe for meat pies with a girlfriend
Now, the thing that I was wondering was: would this be Frasier Crane approved? More than once has he showed disdain for musicals and more “commercial” shows, although I remember him granting Candide an exception. Now, that one is a particular “musical”, since it could be classified as an operetta, and it was composed by Bernstein! HOWEVER, even though Sweeney Todd is more of a traditional musical in all senses, it does share a little something with Candide thatms more than worth nothing: they were both written by Sondheim (alright, in the latter he only contributed, but still!).
Opinions? Xx

Watching my nth series restart last night and during Dinner at Eight, I had a thought – when Frasier introduced Niles to Daphne (while she is fluffing his knickers):  what is the age difference there?  As we know, Frasier is 40? 41?, so Niles has to be two to three years younger, perhaps making him 37? 38?.  Daphne is clearly not that old.  Her flightiness and lilting demeanor can give the air of youthfulness, but she isn’t cast as a teen.

What is your best guess of the age difference between Niles and Daphne?

I've been wearing braces (suspenders) since before I started watching Frasier, and we all know and love Niles's classic love of Trafalgar suspenders. These days, the ones he wore are highly collectable in menswear circles, and I'm lucky enough to have a small collection, with a particular Wine themed one which I'm sure Niles would salivate over.

These are generally quite easy to come by on eBay and Etsy, but fetch prices from $50-$150.

I've actually got a couple of the exact styles worn on-screen by DHP on the way.

Does anyone know of any pictures of Mary Fukuto?

I've noticed her name in both Cheers, Frasier, and How I Met Your Mother, but I can't find an image of her online at all. Does anyone of one?

Unpopular opinion: I sometimes get annoyed by Frasier and Niles' snobbery

I know that I'm going to get Tons of hate from the fandom from the fans, but this has been bothering me for a long time, how audiences are able to tolerate it, now I'm fine with people liking these two, and I don't hate them or Frasier itself but it does feel a bit annoying when Frasier and Niles look down on innocent working class people because their not into Sherry, Literature or Opera, they look down on anything common like mainstream TV, and Pop culture and I know that the comedy is meant to puncture, but it still doesn't feel that much of a satisfying comeuppance because they don't learn and not only that, every time Frasier yells at someone as he does in nearly episode, I find it quite nasty of him, the times in the early seasons where Niles is rude to Roz disgusts me, it satisfies me when Roz does something to get revenge such as licking on his book, that as he says "One smudge decreases it value" or when she attempts to spit a rasin at him, and then Frasier blocking a parking garage over a $2 fine and blocking innocent working class people who have got places to go to and doesn't get arrested or anything he just gets away with it the pompous bastard

I imagine this is how hard people laugh when they say they love watching new "sitcoms". What a blast of an episode where they just wait for the needle to drop. 😂

Classic Frasier [insert] Boy!

This is a subtle but great running joke, Frasier being referred to as ‘something’ boy - example Roz calling Frasier Shower Boy in Daphne’s Room, Dream Boy in The Impossible Dream, Winnebago Boy by Niles in Travels with Martin.

Help me remember more!

Classic Frasier Are You Being Served? S4 E22 is an example of perfect writing.

Just rewatched this episode, and as far as structure goes, absolute perfection. Every single moment has a payoff. Frasier’s aversion to hugs at the start resulting in that shaving cream filled hug at the end. The box Daphne tries to throw away filled with Martin’s things resulting in not only Frasier and Niles finding their mother’s old case study, but the end where the shaving cream warmer explodes. The case study resulting in Nile’s deciding to take back the letter he wrote to Maris. The divorce papers getting signed resulting in Nile’s panic attack resulting in him being in the bathroom when the Hot & Foamy explodes. I could go on, but this is such an airtight sitcom script and a Frasier subreddit is the only place I could think to talk about it at an odd hour. I’ve been through the series many times but just really appreciated this episode tonight.
