TLDR Situation: Partner and I are staying at a fancy hotel for the first time. Hotel worker makes us feel surveilled. Asked for our room number. I asked why and got 2 different stories.

I asked if I should bring it up to management since the worker asked us our room number in the middle of a busy lobby. I mentioned that we are people of color, but that I didn't bring it up to the worker. Simply told him he made us feel uncomfortable due to the safety risk. I even mentioned in the post not bringing up race to the worker.

This redditor clearly is triggered simply by me mentioning I'm non-white and assumes I'm "poor and black." Wow. Plot twist, I am not Black. [Edit: using the word] Poor is subjective, but I mentioned in my post that this is the first time we are able to afford something like this, so yeah, there's a feeling of being out of place.

My question was simply, is it true that hotel workers shouldn't say or bring up your room number outloud in the lobby? And should I bring this up to management since I got 2 conflicting stories? But I'm presumably poor and Black and looking to make myself the victim here.

Part of me wishes I didn't say shit about race. What was I thinking I'd get non-defensive answers. Well, those were down voted quickly.
