Early testing

I know everything tells you that you should wait till at least 12 DPO to test, but I feel like I see SO many 8 DPO and 9 DPO faint positives.

If I take a test on 9 DPO and it is STARK negative, I mean white as paper, should I consider myself out? Even some of the 11 DPO or 10 DPO test I see that are faints, I think to myself that I bet they would have had a squinter on 9DPO. Am I just insane? Or impatient?

What are some of your methods to keep from testing too early out of excitement or anxiety?

Only 3rd cycle TTC, but somehow already feeling burnt out.

hi! i’m currently 10 dpo. i morning tested yesterday at 9 dpo with a clear blue early detection test (6 days sooner than missed period) and a pregmate. i was supposed to get my period in 4 days at that point so i figured if it was going to be positive it would be. both were super stark white

this morning i tested with both of those tests and got the faintest positive. like legit barely visible

so no i wouldn’t count yourself out! (i tend to do the same thing every cycle)

i read that implantation can occur from 6-12 dpo and then you need another like 2 days for hcg to rise enough to show on a test

good luck, i wish you all the best in this journey🩷

I’m very happy for you. Hopefully I will get my faint positive soon. I just spend too much time seeing 8 DPO positives and torture myself.

i totally get it… i normally start testing at like 6 dpo even though i know its like not even possible to get a positive that early.

i feel like hobbies normally help me keep my mind off of it - i know it can be a super nerve wracking time

reading, starting a new show, going on a long walk, i’ve been super into baking/cooking recently and finding new recipes

No, don’t count yourself out on a negative 9 DPO. That’s precisely why you hear you’re supposed to wait until at least 12 or so DPO- to avoid false negatives! Keep testing

I just need to pay someone to yell at me to not test daily from 5 dpo till 12 dpo.

Hahahah I literally bribe myself like if I wait until X day I get a treat out or something. I am currently battling the urge to test when I get off work tn vs waiting til tm AM like I originally planned!!!

I’m thinking the same!! I said I wasn’t gonna test today, I’m 10dpo today I was scrolling reddit and found a couple of 10dpo faint positives so I got tested fmu and it was negative !!! :(

I hate the let down of finally turning that test over and seeing nothing. Crossing my fingers for both of us tomorrow!

Make it the three of us. Doing the same thing. DPO 8 today. Already feeling so guilty of testing on DPO6 only to find a BFN.

I wouldn’t count myself out based on a 9 dpo test. The earliest I test is 11 dpo, I know I would just drive myself crazy if I tested earlier than that. An 11 dpo test is definitive for me.

Implantation can happen 6-12DPO and is most common 8-10DPO. It can take up to 2 days after implantation for HCG to increase enough to turn a test positive.

I find this post very helpful (it even talks about why it feels like you see so many 8DPO BFPs!)

Never count yourself out until AF comes

I don’t care but I buy cheapies and test everyday from dpo 7, then would use frer around 8-9 dpo… and I will continue testing until I get a feeling that AF is arriving today (which I can understand from the morning).
Don’t get me wrong, but it’s just my way of coping with the TWW, cause you can’t do match and since I am a control freak, this way I feel in control of tww haha

With my first child i had a stark negative at 9dpo, faint positive 10dpo. With my second I had a faint positive at 8dpo. I believe it really does depend on the pregnancy. In general I assume stark negative on 11dpo definitive for me, as my luteal phase is almost always 12 days.

I thought I was 9DPO when I got my first positive test. But, when we had the dating scan, I had actually ovulated a few days earlier than I thought. So that first positive test was actually on 12DPO, and it was still faint. I got my BFP 2 days later.

I was tracking ovulation with BBT. I had a spike on CD11, but that seemed too early. I had another spike on CD14 so assumed that was ovulation. Chat GPT told me sometimes your body does an early dip, in prep for ovulation. Apparently it was wrong, because CD11 was when I conceived, therefore must have been when I ovulated.

For the majority of women, they will have an estimated due date based on their last period and their predicted ovulation day is always estimated to be CD14, but then most will have a different due date after their first scan because we often ovulate earlier or later than CD14.

I think one think that keeps me from testing early is remembering that by doing so, I'm asking my body to answer questions it physically cannot answer yet. Implantation can occur anywhere between 6-10 dpo. And then it takes another couple days for HCG levels to reach a point where they are detectable on a test.

So testing when implantation may not have even occurred is quite literally pointless. Save your money and your sanity girl!

It's SO hard, but try to focus more on helping your body implant (eg drinking water, walking) rather than trying to get an answer for something that might not have happened yet. Baby dust to you ✨

Are there actually things that you can do to help implantation? For some reason I thought I read there was NOTHING to do.

Keeping the uterus warm, hydrating, stress management, eating a good diet to ensure hormone health as some examples. All things that are well documented as things you can be doing to support implantation and create a hospitable environment. You obviously can't make implantation happen but you can do things to support it
