Discussion Ticket Inflation

Post image

Nakita ko ang old IMAX ticket ko from Catching Fire and ang mura pa pala niya dati for ₱450!

Discussion Just watched Magandang Hatinggabi, thoughts…

Post image

Just finished Magandang Hatinggabi on Star Cinema’s YouTube, and what a gem!

First off, huge props for the remastered quality! My husband recommended this, describing it as "the teen horror movie of his era, basically Shake, Rattle & Roll meets Scooby-Doo," and honestly, he nailed it.

The cast was fantastic:

Angelica Panganiban: Such a talented (and adorable) child actress!

Jericho Rosales & Angelika Dela Cruz: Incredible acting prowess and top-tier chemistry.

The comic relief landed really well, too. When I looked it up and saw it was written by Ricky Lee and directed by Direk Lauren Dyogi, everything clicked.

Super refreshing watch, incredibly entertaining, and absolute cinema. Highly recommend if you haven't seen it!

News Spider-Man: Brand New Day is made for IMAX

Post image
28 Upvotes

Spider-Man: Brand New Day gave me hope for Flat (1.85:1) screens (but as of the moment wala pang confirmation about this. BUT HOPEFULLY!!)

Spider-Man: Brand New Day was shot with IMAX, but only Korea, Japan, and China lang 'yung merong official IMAX release.

However, the expanded 1.90:1 IMAX framing will still be available on 1.85:1 Flat screens. (Hello hello kay A-Giant ni Trinoma) That means theaters capable of showing Flat presentations can still see the taller 1.90:1 IMAX composition instead of cropping everything down to 2.39:1 Scope.

And honestly, this gives me a lot of hope for Flat screens.

Maybe some people think that eventho we dont have IMAX release here it automatically means youll only get the standard Scope version, but that's not necessarily true(I hope). If our cinema chooses the 1.85:1 Flat DCP (I mean hopefully Ayala Malls. Ikaw na to!), you'll still see the expanded vertical image that was intended for IMAX digital venues (1.90:1), just without the IMAX branding, projector, sound system. (best to see in Flat with Dolby Atmos)

But here comes ScreenX, a different experience for this film.

From what I understand and based on screen aspect ratio ni MOA, ScreenX presentations will likely remain 2.39:1 Scope in the center screen. You'll gain additional visuals on the left and right side walls, creating a much wider panoramic experience, but the center image itself won't become taller like the Flat 1.85:1 presentation does. Sadly walang Dolby Atmos si ScreenX

So if your priority is:

  • Seeing more image vertically (top and bottom): Flat (1.85:1) seems like the better option.
  • Feeling surrounded by extra visuals horizontally: ScreenX is still unique thanks to its panoramic side projections.

THE ASPECT RATIO FOR OUR LOCAL SCREENINGS IS NOT YET OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED.

(But I will update after my screening this Wednesday 10:30am)

Discussion Coyote vs. Acme is getting a PH release... right?

Post image
20 Upvotes

It's a little bit concerning about Coyote vs. Acme releasing in the Philippines when I'm not seeing a single promotion for a PH release anywhere whether on social media or cinema chain websites.

The previous Looney Tunes movie, The Day the Earth Blew Up, secured a major PH release by 888 Films International and it managed to release on the same week as the US release. I'm hoping 888 Films International can pick up Coyote vs Acme too. It deserves to be seen in cinemas.

Sino na nakanood dito sa netflix? Ano thoughts nyo? Grabe plot twist nito. Sobrang samang tao ni Ian at Angela for framing Michelle. And yung friend ni Ian halata namang inlove siya at indenial na di niya mahal si Ian. Napaluha ako nung sinabi ni Michelle na napakawholesome niyang tao at si Ian hindi.

All the buzz about Rene Baterbonia reminded me of this film, and how it tackled the dangers of blind fanaticism and the importance of critical thinking.

Discussion America (Pinoy) Psycho

Post image

Hello! Would anyone know if merong pinoy version of American Psycho?

Not like dubbed version but more-so American Psycho but in a filipino setup.

Instead of Patrick Bateman living in high-story condo and kills people on the side but a matcha-drinking sociopath Pedro who lives in Salcedo while enjoying weekend markets?

Wouldnt that be an interesting film.

Film Festival CINEMALAYA 2026 TICKET PRICE & BUNDLE

Thumbnail

Cinemalaya released its official ticket prices: ₱350 for regular viewers and ₱250 for students. Unfortunately, the festival has limited its run to Metro Manila. I remember Cinemalaya 2019 having screenings in selected regions where tickets were priced at only ₱150 for regular admission and ₱120 for students—super sulit! Screening schedule is also available to view at their website.

Now, they have introduced the Cinemalaya Premiere Patron deal, which is raising a few eyebrows. What does this offer actually mean? Are movie tickets already included in this package, or is it completely just "business class" perks for privileged festival-goers?

Also, for those who attended previous editions of the festival at Shangri-La Plaza, did the premier/luxury cinemas still charge the flat festival rate, or did they implement separate pricing?

Discussion Will 'The Odyssey' extend its IMAX run here?

I'd really like to watch it in IMAX but I can only watch it like that late next week (no IMAX theaters near my area). SM says tickets stop selling at July 28th. Are they really going to end or do you think the run has been successful so they'll extend?

Discussion My prediction for I Play Rocky PH release

Post image
2 Upvotes

I do believe I Play Rocky will get a PH release because it is made by Amazon MGM and all of their major releases have released in the PH. In the US, the movie releases on the same day as The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. If I Play Rocky releases in PH on the same opening week as its US release, that would be even better. But I doubt that.

I predict I Play Rocky will release in the PH in December before the release of Dunesday. Either December 2 or 9.

Discussion La La Land 10th Anniversary

Post image
109 Upvotes

I'm glad to score tickets for La La Land 10th anniversary! It's my favorite film of the 2010s and it was an emotional roller-coaster for me since it parallels my own life story. She was the one who helped me achieve the wins I have in life today even though we have our own families now. But I was happy for what we had and we still remained friends after all that. That's why this movie is so memorable for me. It is my chance to see it on the big screen this time since I didn't have the chance back in 2016.

Edit: Grammar
