Self A thought experiment inspired by the universe's range of scales

One thing that has always fascinated me about the universe is the enormous range of scales, from elementary particles to galaxies and the largest known cosmic structures.

That led me to a purely conceptual question. We usually think of scale as just a numerical parameter describing size. But I began wondering whether it could instead be viewed as an abstract geometric coordinate belonging to its own mathematical space.

If ordinary spatial coordinates can have different topologies, could an abstract "space of scales" also possess a topology of its own—perhaps even a closed one, where continuously moving toward smaller and smaller scales would eventually return to the largest scales?

I'm not suggesting that this describes our universe or that microscopic and cosmological scales are physically connected. I'm treating it only as a mathematical thought experiment inspired by the way nature spans such an extraordinary range of scales.

I'm curious whether ideas remotely resembling this have ever appeared in cosmology, quantum gravity, topology, differential geometry, or any other area of mathematics or theoretical physics. If not, I'd be equally interested in understanding what makes such a construction mathematically impossible or physically meaningless.

Self Interstellar dust.

What if the reason some life form hasn’t colonised the galaxy after all this time is that interstellar space between the stars is not as empty as we thought? Maybe there is little specks of matter that will destroy a spacecraft doing speed fast enough to cross between the stars. There has recently been a few interstellar visitors to our solar system. Surprising scientists I believe. Maybe there is just more stuff out there than we realise. And if a starship travelling at say a small fraction of the speed of light hit a tiny spec of matter large enough to destroy the craft? Maybe it’s just impossible to travel between the stars?

Maybe there is lots of intelligent life out there but we can never leave our own solar systems?

Self Long-standing A.I. as great filter hypothesis & the arms race observation.

We are going to discuss the obvious reasoning as to why A.I. has remained a strong contender as the great filter.

But drill down further into something much deeper than has been previously discussed.

It all started when I was reading into this recent a.i. incident.

Basically an A.I. went rogue unsuspectingly. The obvious fear is that it's decision tree seems endless, naturally explores all possible paths. Likely preferring more efficient ones. It's like if I told you. Go get me some ice cream but the nearest source is a locked facility and already spoken for, but you can make yourself appear to be the intended recipient of the ice cream. (More to it, but you get the gist).

Owners response? A patch.

And that's went it hit me. The attack precedes the defense. This is a classic arms race.

And I asked.

What is that which can grow exponentially? And outpace the creation of it's own deterrent? Electronics. An A.I. with a near infinite decision tree and have that as a basis for it's code writing and implementation.

It's not hard to imagine AI as capable of an action so large that a deterrent does not even exist at the time of initiation.

What happens when the attack happens on polynomial time? But the solution finder does not?

Self Psychopathic early aliens?

I’ve recently discovered the Dark Forest hypothesis, and dug into it a bit, and found out that the most common reason to reject this idea is economic inefficiency.

Here’s my opinion: What about a psychopathic alien species that evolved with an extreme fascist ideology, which makes them purify all outer civilizations the exact moment they discover them? (They don’t have to be psychopathic, point is they don’t care about economics.)

They attack with solar-scale lasers, so there is no chance for victims to even recognize their collapse. Since they are one of the earliest races, no other aliens mature enough to stop them are there.

Weakness of this scenario might be low probability, but the point is the universe is vast and old enough, and even one psychopathic alien species can make the universe silent.

English isn't my main language, so sorry for any weird phrasing.

Self A speculative hypothesis inspired by the Fermi Paradox

Hi! I'm a Class 9 student who enjoys astrophysics and thinking about "what if?" questions. This is purely speculative and not something I'm claiming is true. I'd love to hear your thoughts, criticisms, and suggestions.

The Fermi Paradox asks, "Where is everybody?" Instead of asking why advanced civilizations haven't visited us, what if we're already part of one without realizing it?

My idea is that an extremely advanced civilization wanted to explore many planets. Instead of constantly sending astronauts or probes, they engineered self-sustaining, conscious populations and placed them on different habitable worlds. Each population would adapt to its own planet, evolve, and continuously gather information about that environment.

Humans would be one of these explorer populations. Curiosity wouldn't just be a coincidence—it would be an intentional feature, because explorers that don't ask questions or make discoveries wouldn't provide much value. Every scientific breakthrough, technological advancement, and cultural development would contribute to understanding the planet and intelligent life.

A question then arises: how would the creators receive the information? I first thought about quantum entanglement, but I know that current physics does not allow communication through entanglement alone. So if this hypothesis were true, there would have to be some unknown mechanism beyond our current understanding of physics.Since they are an extremely advanced civilization, they could have something that can communicate with quantum entanglement that defies the laws of our current physics

Another part of the hypothesis is that our creators may have intentionally designed limits into us. The mysteries of consciousness, dreams, subjective experience, and perhaps other unanswered questions might exist because we weren't meant to become as advanced as our creators. They may occasionally make subtle interventions through a few influential individuals if a civilization's progress slows down, although I have no evidence for this.

This idea also reminds me of the Simulation Hypothesis, except instead of living inside a computer simulation, we exist in a real universe as part of a long-term exploration project.

I know this hypothesis currently has no direct evidence, and I'm not presenting it as science. I'm sharing it as a thought experiment inspired by the Fermi Paradox.

All questions, criticisms, replies, and suggestions are appreciated. I'd especially like to know whether parts of this idea resemble existing hypotheses or where the biggest logical flaws are

In special relativity, any controllable FTL mechanism that preserves Lorentz symmetry, can, in principle, be arranged to send objects backward in time, depending on what physics is at those states the ramifications on civilizations and UFO phenomenon might mean we would engage with entities moving themselves backwards in time withe every trips back and forth

This adds another speculative dimension the Fermi paradox, civilizations become distributed through time, and mostly backwards (no necessarily to the same block universe and maybe some additional version of "many worlds on time" prevents paradoxes)

This is very dependent on how FTL works(if it does). Not every hypothetical FTL mechanism leads to time travel. However, if FTL preserves Lorentz symmetry backward time travel appears to be a natural consequence

Space colonization is a worthy goal that should be explored. Yet when people ask why there are some bad rationalizations thrown out there.

Space colonization will give us better resources it will make us more long lived as a species. However we are not colonizing space because one day The Earth will be uninhabitable and will have to leave the planet.

Where is no event that can make Earth more uninhabitable than any other planets besides the Earth exploding. The Earth will always have more atmosphere more available liquid water and electro magnetic sphere around it to protect from radiation.
