I really just needed somewhere to post this as I have an intense fear of wasps for most of my life. A few years back my mom and I moved into a really bad flip home during a sort of mental health episode. House is nearly falling apart as I speak. My mom is allergic to wasps.

Over the past 2 years we have had yellow jackets fly into the home because our windows are fitted very incorrectly and impossible to close. over the summer it is the absolute worst and i had to get rid of 6 in one weekend. called an exterminator earlier this year and they said because it was too early in the season, there wasn;t a nest they could find.

2 months have passed now and we have partial screens on the windows that don;t close. There is now a yellow jacket nest near one of the rock walls to get down to the driveway, which won;t bother me because i don't go out much.

Recently I have seen a different type of bee flying around near my window, doors, etc, and it turns out to be a mud dauber, they have been getting into my house because a new window has opened and I may need another small screen to close it. I'm scared because they seem to be coming (or at least one of them) are coming in and out of the siding of my window (in my bedroom)so I'm afraid it'll get in the house. I don't know if I should call another exterminator or just let them be

South-central MN - the neighbors warned us, but they just 'came out' in the past few days along the south side of the house. We have twin toddlers who like to learn first and ask later 🙃

I just had what I think is a cuckoo wasp (based on a googled description that matched, I'm in SE Europe and it's really hot and dry right now) burrow into my phone. I watched it crawl around, find the hole, check how deep it was head-first, then go in butt-first and refuse to come out. Shaking my phone didn't help and i couldn't think of what else to do.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if it maybe laid eggs in there? If so, what should i do about it??

So I'm digging up a small area for a pond in my back yard and the soil is really nice thick clay. So of course I'm having to wet it down to dig into and shape it against the walls. Problem is there's a black and yellow mud wasp that keeps coming back and forth between the mud and wherever he's taking it and it's kind of got me a little on edge because I'm not trying to get stung.

But I don't wanna kill the guy either. He's just living his life. It's just not in my best interest to get stung today or any other day. I was thinking about piling up some mud away from me somewhere more towards the direction I've seen him fly to and from. Maybe he'll just get it from there instead?

Any ideas from anybody besides getting rid of him the permanent way? Thanks

Any clue what I’m looking at here? I have seen any nests around my house, inside or out. I like in the north east united states. I had a yellow jacket nest in my attic a year back, got rid of em and closed off any entrance in as best I could. So if theyre nesting anywhere my best guess wud be there.

I’m sure its tough to tell from this picutre, but I did the best I could and appreciate any and all help.

I know they can remember people, but can they remember?

I currently have a patio umbrella being used as a wasp nest. I intend to tip it over at night, open it up, and let the wasps clear out on their own. But if I stand it back up later, will they return to the umbrella as a nesting spot Or will they remember that the umbrella gets eviction and avoid living there?

Should I approach this differently to help them remember?

Note: i don't want them to think of me as an enemy as they pollinate my garden

Why do so many of you mouthbreathers hate wasps?

My daughter had these in her tomatoes & herbs last year. She thinks they're wasps, maybe living inside the handrail. She admits it's a crappy photo. Any ideas? Eastern North Dakota.

This is so strange to me! I have a stray cat outside my house that was playing with a near dead wasp. I felt bad for the wasp, so let it crawl on my finger so I could relocate it. It was crawling on at an angle, so the butt was hanging off and only one of its rear legs was on me. I felt instant pain from that rear foot and I was watching closely, so I know it didn't sting me. I am so confused. I now have swelling and a welt, just like a sting, but on a much smaller scale. Can anyone shed some light on what just happened? It was a European paper wasp.

This weekend I unfortunately learned that I can no longer tolerate a wasp sting. I have seen a medical professional and now carry an epi pen.

Although I know everyone reacts to stings differently, I find that my experience wasn’t what I’d expect a severe allergic reaction to a wasp sting would be like. Here were my symptoms:

1. Sting - mine was on the index toe. My foot got chubby but the swell never passed my ankle

2. About 30 mins to an hour later had very very intense chest tightness on the right side. This lasted about 10-20 minutes and during this time it hurt to swallow

3. After that, I was extremely nauseous and vomited all night

4. 24hours later, I had hives all over my body

This happened Saturday night, and yesterday the swelling on my foot was gone and I was able to go back to work?

Since I didn’t have a big visible swell and was able to be back on my feet so fast, I’ve been gaslighting myself into thinking that maybe this string of events happened because of other reasons?

please note I am taking this super seriously and wouldn’t overlook a wasp sting again

Hi! Moved into an apartment where there used to be dauber nest on our porch. Bugs don’t bother us but my cat loves to be outside and I know he’ll mess with them & I’m worried about a sting. The nest is gone but we keep getting them flying around. I saw peppermint oil could be sprayed. Has anyone done this?
