And Ash vs Evil Dead was pretty fucking good, too.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

...then you should've watched Ash vs Evil Dead when it originally aired. But you didn't, and that's why we only got three seasons instead of the intended five.

(Discussion Post) Groovy We should get another movie set in the medieval times, but still with the darker tones of the current movies

I love how the new evil dead movies are some sort of anthology that explores new settings and ideas, such as a tiny apartment or all the victims being family

That said, if you are deep into the lore, you'd notice how many elements of the current film still date back to the origins of the lore and Army of Darkness

It would be cool as hell if we got another movie set in those times, with the darker, gorier tone of the modern movies

As well as it going even deeper into the lore of the franchise

Met Ted Raimi at nightmare weekend miami in 24’ had the chance to talk with him for a long while because the con was pretty dead and i had a vendor pass as i was working the con, i told him that “let’s get the hell out of here!” is one of my favorite lines of all time, which he loved to hear, and then he said to me “well i don’t think he has a name, so let’s give him one” i say “little skeleton guy?” he says “no that’s too long for me to write, how about lil skelly?” and now that skeletons name will always be lil skelly, the man himself who voiced him said so. ted raimi is so cool dude.

Bonus points: Met Hank Carlson who did makeup and prosthetics for Army of Darkness. I learned there was supposed to be a dinosaur ending with Skeleton Ash driving away, and the S-Mart scene came as a surprise since it wasn’t in the script or the rewrites.

We just wrapped this past weekend. It was a blast. Even people that didn’t know of the movies or musical really enjoyed the show.

Just wish we had more time to do more with the puppetry on set, blood, etc.

(Spoiler!) I think modern Evil Dead has become too predictable Spoiler

This is just my opinion but after watching burn, I realize my biggest issue with modern Evil Dead movies is that the overall structure has started to feel predictable.
In the last 3 evil dead movies the ending follows a very similar pattern. Almost everyone dies, one survivor is left standing, they pick up a signature weapon, defeat the final Deadite and survive.

Compare that to the first 3 movies. Every ending felt different. In ED1, everyone essentially loses. ED2 ends with him thrown back in time, in a tragic/ironic way. And AOD has two different endings depending on the version, both are great.

The first time I watched the AOD apocalyptic ending I was like wtffff. So good.

One thing I think Rise did really well was its setting. Moving the story into an apartment building made it feel fresh while still keeping the identity of the franchise. I liked how the other tenants interacted with the possessed family.

That’s why I wish the franchise would take more/bigger risks. Let the Deadites actually win again or set a movie in a different setting instead of a house or cabin.

Like imagine a prequel of the priests mentioned in rise, who find the necronomicon. A church setting would be gnarly. Or even on a boat or cruise, where no one could escape. Explore more
periods in history or different Necronomicons. The lore feels like it has so much potential.

Side note

I also don’t understand the criticism of the possession spreading through a kiss in burn. Whether people like that scene or not, AOD already had Sheila become a Deadite after Evil Ash kissed her so it didn’t feel like the movie was inventing a brand-new rule. Even in ED2 the bite on ash’s hand started a possession. Salivia and other contact with deadites has always been a thing.

Again, this is just my opinion. I still enjoy the newer movies, especially Rise, but I think the series has the potential to surprise us more than it has lately.

(Spoiler!) Evil dead burn now my favorite Spoiler

It’s such a good movie and I like the relationship dynamic much more than evil dead rise. If feel real especially for the two complex characters such as Susan and Joseph. People say they are not likable. But they feel so real. If I lost all my family members in tragic ways in one day out of desperation I think I may also be tempted to reunite with them —- especially if I am not entirely sure what does deadite entail.

I think having Susan wanting to be reunited with them is very creative yet it feels so real once you understood this character.

I get it, not alot of people liked ED Burn. Especially not as much as I do. Whether it was because of the absence of Ash or that it didn’t have the humor that ED 2 or Army of Darkness had. After five showings, I’ve loved the movie more and more. Having so many moments to look forward to seeing, listening to the amazing score by Double Danger, the gruesome violence, all the amazing and creative camera movements and shots. This film to me has so much going for it and is my second favorite Evil Dead film just behind 2013. There’ll be many more times I see this one in theaters!

(Discussion Post) Groovy In defense of Army of Darkness

I feel like a lot of the people who don't like/understand Army of Darkness camp/cartoon like atmosphere maybe don't get that Raimi made a movie with the Coen Bros called Crimewave (that bruce campbell was in as well) after the original Evil Dead which at least one of the Coens had helped him on. Then the Coen Bros made Raising Arizona which their experience on ED was highly influential as well as Raimis camera trickery. It did better at the box office I believe than anything Raimi had done by that point. And before Army of Darkness came out Bruce Campbell had the whole Adventures of Briscoe County tv experience. All of that I believe combined to make Raimi (and his main leading man)more willing to abandon outright horror and develop more of a comedic/looney toons vibe for the next project set in the world of the Deadites. Just something I was thinking about that made me wonder how many people knew this info. I know its not some super rare facts all of that just seems very rarely mentioned

(Misc Post) Maybe I Didn’t Say Every Tiny Syllable I had two ideas for Evil Dead movies and wanted to share them with y’all!

(Btw, NONE of this is AI generated. These are just some cool ideas I had.)

  1. Evil Dead Waters
The film is set during the early 18th century. A group of pirates uncover a precious bounty, plenty full of treasures! But one of them stands out. A book, none other than the Necronomicon! A curious crew member reads aloud from the book and chaos ensues.

  2. Evil Dead Cult
A sacrifice for a cult that worships the Deadites and the Necronomicon is brought in, where the intent is for the Deadites to take over the sacrifice’s body. However, the Deadite takes over the body of the cult leader instead, and leads for the Sacrifice to formulate an escape plan.

I definitely heard the idea of an Evil Dead movie on a Pirate ship from somewhere else, liked the idea and wanted to develop more on it. I’m not writing any of this at the moment, but maybe in the future.

(Discussion Post) Groovy EVIL DEAD BURN - 8/10 Spoiler

The Deadites are back to terrorize a grieving family.

I love the visceral violence and gore of the **EVIL DEAD** movies. I especially enjoyed the last two installments. They’re crazy, brutal, gory, and a whole lot of fun! **EVIL DEAD BURN** fits right in with the franchise and keeps that consistency going.

The story expands the **EVIL DEAD** lore a little without overcomplicating it. It’s once again all about the Deadites wreaking havoc with total savagery and, at times, hilariousness. The clever destruction, brutality, and deaths had me squeamish and on edge throughout. It was absolutely nasty! I loved every minute.

The characters weren’t the most interesting or lovable, but they each had something that added to their personality. I thought they all gave good performances that really delivered on the foul, chaotic vibe of the movie.

But my favorite part has to be the camera work. We get some truly amazing shots and visual sequences that add so much to the entertainment factor of the movie. The effects were on point. The abundance of blood, guts, and gore was front and center, and it all looked fantastic. It’s what I was there for—horrific and disgusting scenes that looked super cool—and I got exactly what I wanted.

**EVIL DEAD BURN** was a great watch that left me wanting more. **EVIL DEAD** is a pretty consistent franchise, and I had a blast with **BURN**. It’s definitely on par with **RISE**, so if you dug that one, I think you’ll get a kick out of this one. It’s a must-watch, so go check it out!

This one’s a…

8/10

There’s a mid and post credit scene that are awesome… got my hyped for what’s next.

(Discussion Post) Groovy Evil Dead (1981) deadites based on animals?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I saw this TikTok with someone saying that the original idea for the Deadites in the original film were supposed to be inspired by animals. They supported it by saying the reason Scotty's nose is black is because he was suppose to be a bear, and I think someone was suppose to have a beak for a bird. They even showed what looked like concept drawings supporting these ideas ( though I'm sure it probably wasnt official)

I have not been able to find that same TikTok but is there any truth to this? Been a long time fan of the franchise and I have never heard about this until recently and I dont see anyone else talking about it. I did always thought Scotty's deadite makeup was weird especially the nose, I'm curious if there is any truth to this.

(Discussion Post) Groovy EVIL DEAD MOVIE TIMELINE?

So Halloween Horror Nights announced Evil Dead for one of their houses and I wanna do my homework before I go this year! I've never seen anything Evil Dead asides from playing as Ash in Dead By Daylight and I only have access to movies. So what's the correct order to watch the movies in? MOVIES ONLY PLEASE as I dont exactly have access to the comics or games or whatever else

(I don't mind having to rewatch movies for other timelines)

(Meme Post) Who’s Laughing Now?! Whilst The Evil Dead was never intentionally funny, it still cracks me up at points. One of the funniest is Cheryl desperately trying to break the door down to get Ash when the wide shot reveals a huge, broken window just a couple of feet from the door she could have entered through!

(Spoiler!) Evil Dead Burn Question *Spoiler* Spoiler

Upvotes

How did the deadites find will? It looks like it just happens by chance but then when he crashes into the deadite she says "we found you" as if this was its plan the whole time. But that just seems random because the girl was from EDR and she was. Infected because of shitty luck. Any theories ? Is it just plot contrivances?

I thought it was going to be mid since I hated evil dead rise (outside of the performance of the mom) but yeah great time, great shots, loved mirror shot and the bathroom scene. I’m glad the final deadite didn’t stupidly nerf itself like in rise and instead of poorly imitating the 2013 ending, like evil dead rise, they actually went for something different. PLUS the characters actually showed fear and pain in their faces instead of making stupid 😲 faces in every instance, unlike evil dead rise. Did I mention I hate evil dead rise? I also love that the characters lasted a bit longer after being infected and could show more of their personality. A big issue with the modern remakes is the moment they’re infected, like a few min later they go into a seperate area and go deadite.

(Misc Post) Maybe I Didn’t Say Every Tiny Syllable What's worse than a deadite? A theory. Spoiler

I've seen a few posts asking what would have happened in Burn if Alice would have finished reading the words. Some say faction war between deadites, others say it would just summon more deadites, but I want to focus on what u/Jewishsamurai88 said in one of the posts.

"Absolutely nobody has talked about this, which is WILD, but the recording that plays says the only thing that can stop what has been done by the words being spoken is speaking the words again. So either they cease being a threat, or something even more fucked up shows up."

I like the two options our Samurai friend put forth at the end of his post, but what if they were the same? The deadites cease being a threat BECAUSE something even more fucked up shows up.

Clearly, the deadites can't just invade our world. Like vampires, they need to be invited in and the incantation acts as both a beacon and a welcome. Now the deadites are clearly in some kind of hell and are filled with a reasonable desire to escape and wreak havok, so it would make sense that they are actively listening and waiting for someone to let them in. One single reading opens the door they have been waiting for.

Now, what if there was something out there that wasn't actively listening, that has been ignoring our world, and that could only be summoned by persistence?Hearing the repeated call, it would turn its attention toward us, see the deadite incursion and set out to stop it. Maybe to stop the repeated calling from disturbing them or because they are diametrically opposed to the deadites as well.

If the deadites are demons, than that force would have to be "angels." Instead of killing and maiming it's hosts, they transform them into something more suitable to be a vessel of it's "divine" power. A likely horrifying and violent transformation. Biblical and Sumerian angels are fucking terrifying, and I can't imagine Kandarian angels would be any more pleasant. They also seemingly don't care about humans at all, so we would be considered collateral damage at best and it would be summoning an apocalypse of a different flavor.

As someone who likes the mystery and vagueness of the lore, I don't know if I'd want to see this play out on screen, but the idea is compelling.

20 million budget and it will likely finish around 70 million worldwide. That's profitable including marketing that is the double of the 20 million. But streaming will definately make it much more a big success. The timing for the release was unfortunated, but we can be thankfull the budget was small.

(Discussion Post) Groovy Finally watched Evil Dead Burn Spoiler

Upvotes

So, I just watched the latest movie! I’ll admit I’ve only watched the previous two installments, unless I accidentally a watched it when I was younger which is usually the case, but I do like both movies. Since I’ve don’t really know the source material I could be missing how the demons moved in the originals, but I just adore how much personality they seem to have! The way they taunt ppl and act makes me feel like they have so much personality and that’s been my favorite part of both movies. Like I said I only have seen the two newer ones so idk if this is better or worse than how they usually act, but they feel so much more entertaining than just being stoic and evil.
