So this morning I let the dogs out as normal. Went back inside to wash my face and when I returned, I noticed that my two year-old was face-to-face with a young Fox. We have a Fox den on our property so it is not unusual to see them occasionally. However, this time the two of them seemed curious about each other. There was no physical contact but they got within a foot of each other, sniffing, bobbing their heads, etc. this went on for 2 or 3 minutes. Fox could’ve left if he felt threatened but decided to stay. Seem to be very curious about my young 2 year old mix who is roughly the same size - about 15 pounds. How concerned should I be about a friendly fox? I understand that foxes do not attack dogs normally, but had some thoughts about the foxes mother or do foxes carry disease that I need to concern myself with. Anyone who have such encounters?

A client commissioned a birthday wallet for his younger sister. He described her as quiet and self-doubting. Instead of a wolf to make her look 'stronger,' he chose a fox because to him, a fox is quietly resilient. He just wanted her to know she was always enough.

To make the fox look like it’s peeking out from behind the leaves, I had to bevel the leather deeply and carve underneath the edges to create a realistic 3D shadow. It was a difficult process of stretching the vegetable-tanned leather without ripping the grain.

The eyes were the hardest part of this project. Since this wallet is for a young woman, I had to be very careful. If the carved lines were even slightly too sharp, the fox would look too fierce or cunning. I had to focus entirely on keeping the expression soft, gentle, and cute, while still showing a bit of quiet confidence. The fur was also a big challenge, as carving realistic fur takes a lot of patience, whether you are a beginner or an experienced leather crafter.

In the end, I'm really happy with how this turned out. I hope his sister carries this wallet as a constant reminder of her brother's support. What do you guys think of the final piece? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
