Obviously I'm a bit older than most graduates but I wonder what balance should I strike in an interview.

I obviously need to sound motivated and driven but there seems to be an assumption that I will want to move on or up within the first year.

I'm a mechanical engineer with 4 years of experience in design and product development in an international firm in North Africa. I'm trying to find any job in europe especially in Ireland for language reasons. My first choice is Germany, but without german it's almost impossible to secure a job.

I know the situation is hard all over the world, many layoffs etc.. . I wonder what's the situation specifically in Ireland for mechanical engineers, and how hard is it to get a job offer for someone like me.

Till now i applied for tens of jobs, but not even an interview.

Hi everyone, I interviewed for a Process Sustaining Engineer role at Analog Devices Limerick. It has now been 5 weeks since my manager interview and I still haven’t received any update.

I contacted HR twice for a status update but haven’t received a response either.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation with ADI Limerick? Is this a normal delay in their hiring process, or does it usually mean they have decided to move forward with another candidate?

I’m an international student from Malaysia transferring directly into Year 3 of BEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering at TUS Limerick. I’ve seen so many posts saying it’s impossible for internationals to get jobs or survive in Ireland — but my situation is quite specific, so I’d love your honest thoughts:

• Course: EE — which I know is on the Critical Skills list (does that act improve my chances of getting a job?)

• Fees: €13,000/year (considered rly affordable)

• Accommodation: Fully arranged by my agency/group

Goals:

#1 = get international experience;

#2 = find work if possible

My questions:

1. For EE graduates in Limerick/Shannon — how real is the demand at Intel, ADI etc? Do they actually hire new international grads?

2. Is it true that mandatory placement is where most people get hired? How hard is it for late‑arriving transfer students to secure one.

And since my #1 priority is gaining international experience/experiencing life abroad, how welcoming is the environment for international transfer students like me?

I would rather not carry a suit since I don't have a lot of space and I fear it will get wrinkly. I have explored a few options but I can only find tuxedos to rent, which would not do. Just wondering has anyone made the transition from site engineer to anything else? I know there are plenty of routes I could take by I’m just trying to see what others have done.

3 years experience (mainly water treatment plants /infrastructure) and civil engineering degree

Reasons I want to get away from site engineering

Stress -(safety , coordination, commercial)

Travel - (live in the west of Ireland so it’s inevitable I’ll probably need to travel)

Pay - not great when you work it out hourly

Work life balance - working long hours 50hours + every week on top of long commutes

I’d be willing to put up with a bit of travel if the money was good.

I'm from Kyiv, and I've finished a bachelor's degree in computer engineering a year ago (4 years of education) in one of the metropolitan universities, with good grades. Inside Ukraine this uni is recognised in IT circles, but I'm just curious, if someone knows, is our diplomas valued in Ireland and EU in general? I heard that IT diplomas are recognised of some kind, but it's just rumors for me.

I also heard, that you can translate or confirm your diploma inside the Ireland, but will it make any difference or is it worth to trying to get a whole new major in Ireland?

Just finishing up 3 years in Australia working construction trade assistant roles/operating plant (civil works- fifo/tunnels etc) I have a 2.1 BEng Hons in mechanical and manufacturing engineering with experience as a process engineer in Ireland in the semiconductor industry (18mths).

I am trying to pivot my career towards a data centre role in Europe in the likes of a commissioning or QA/QC engineering role, if anyone has any tips or advice in how to approach or courses to undertake I’d be all ears.

I started Placement / work experience 5 weeks ago. It has been going well hours are long and responsibility is high but I have been managing well so far. Apart from the past week. I was on my own over 3 separate crews all on the one street but 3 separate locations as such and they are all doing different jobs but it is all civil works. I have found it very hard to ensure progress, manage safety standards, order material, do 3 sets of paperwork, organise the work and plan for next week. Especially because in my opinion the 3 crews are not that good in previous weeks I have been with 1 crew with a highly experienced foreman and has made my job relatively easy. This week was the opposite all 3 crews were unsure of the work to be carried out and at the end of the day I am only a student and I wasn’t Thaught about water infrastructure in detail in college. I was extremely stressed last week. I ended up working 66 hours this week in 5 days. On a student placement salary which in my opinion is unacceptable. If you break it down what I get per hour it works out to well under minimum wage. What tipped me over the edge was when I was discussing with my supervisor who calls out to site for 5 minutes a day progress for the week he got thick at me. I explained to him that there is a lot going on and I can’t be in 3 places at once but I don’t think he really cares. As I am with 3 crews again next week. There is a lot of student engineers working for the same company and I don’t know of any that are under the same pressure. It seem to me the better you are the more you get flogged.

I don’t know what to do or say but what I do know is I shouldn’t be working this long or under this much pressure while I am a student engineer receiving so little compensation for it.

This month I done ordinary maths for the leaving cert, and I have level 7 engineering down on my CAO in Athlone (I also have level 8 down for ATU Galway, but it’s a much further commute). I want a job in Civil Engineering but I don’t know if I’ll manage the maths. I also applied and done an interview for a civil engineering apprenticeship with a prominent precast concrete company, and I don’t know will I do civils or stick with QS or construction management.

Not asking for specifics off anyone who might work in the role but want to know what the ball park figure is.

I am a process technician, have been for 3 years and I'm good at my job. I have taken on some repsonbilities of the engineers above me and feel like this is only going to happen more the longer I am a tech. (Whilst still being paid tech wages)

Unfortunately my level 8 is not in a STEM subject so I cant actually progress into an Engineering role. What kind of pathways have people gone before? I really dont want to have to do 4 years of college.. I think I'd do 3 as an absolute push...the courses I've been looking at are through innopharma and thay gives me a 3 year pathway... but the cost is mental.. 5.5k for medical and pharmaceutical operations and thats only a level 6... that kind of money isn't on the cards this year.. I know the theres level 6 in mechanical engineering though MTU but the pathways out of this seem like 4-6years..anyone been through it or have any advice?
