Announcement Looking for Ellensburg mods

Hey Burgers,

Context

I've been modding r/CWU for several years. Both r/CWU and this subreddit have always been pretty casual. There haven't been a lot of rules, because there hasn't been a lot of activity traditionally speaking.

However, reddit has changed quite a lot since these subreddits were founded, and there are many structures and tools available to moderators that were not available in the past. We feel that it's time we start leaning on some of these functions, like rules and removal reasons, as well as some simple automoderator rules, to make interacting in this subreddit easier.

I'm starting to think about the final chapters of my life, and I don't think I want to be moderating reddit in my retirement years, so I want to start building a team to take over this community when I eventually decide to move on.

I took over moderation on this subreddit today, because the previous mods had become inactive and left, leaving this community without any moderators and resulting in it being shut down from posting. After the admins granted it to me, I spruced it up a bit, and now I want to get it growing again.

To those ends, I am looking for some moderators to take on both r/Ellensburg and r/CWU, and help me reshape our moderation structure in a way that sets these closely-tied communities up for growth and future success.

What we're looking for from you

A successful applicant for moderator would be responsible for ensuring that users follow the rules, responding to moderator mails, clearing out the moderation queue on a regular basis, handling issues and disciplinary actions both publicly and privately as needed, and generally keeping an eye on the subreddit to maintain an inclusive and respectful space. We ask that you think carefully about the time and energy you have available to commit - our day-to-day moderation needs are light, but we do need people who can be present and pay attention on a regular basis.

If you think you could contribute to this effort, please take a few minutes and fill out this google form.

I will review applications as they come in, but this post will likely remain up for several months to ensure we cast a wide enough net to get a good team going. I am likely looking for 2-3 permanent moderators. If this post is still stickied, then we are still accepting applications.

Thank you!

Discussion Considering moving here. Any advice?

I'm a lifelong Washingtonian, grew up in Mt Vernon, lived in Seattle and Bellingham through my 20s, then Orcas Island for a while, and I spent most of the last 4 years in an off-grid cabin in the hills outside Brewster. I decided I couldn't live with that level of isolation and needed to be around people again. Tried moving back to Bellingham but found it overwhelming, too many people and too much stuff happening, as well as the gloomy weather and expensive housing. Ellensburg seems to have a lot of the things I like about Bellingham while being more culturally relaxed, sunny, and affordable.

I know it gets hot and windy, that doesn't bother me. I know it's a more conservative area, but it seems reasonably balanced. Anything else I should know about life here?

I really love how walkable the downtown core is and I'd like to be part of that, but I also want to have easy access to some nature areas. I love the John Wayne trail and the river park areas. Are there any other natural spaces within walking or biking distance of downtown?

Any areas to avoid? Areas to seek out? Good ways to meet people and get plugged in to the community?

Woke up to a text from my roommate that she's planning on moving out at the end of our lease, so ive got less than 2 months to find a place in the Burg.

Aiming for a 1bedroom for myself, trying not to exceed 1000/month

There’s also some interesting local momentum around tech in education—Cle Elum School District is starting a Tech Committee to talk about things like AI in schools and how technology can support students and educators. Their first meeting is May 7 from 5:30–7:00 PM at the District Office (4244 Bullfrog Road), if that’s something you’d want to be part of (or know someone who would).

Community LGBT welcoming community???

Hello! My girlfriend was offered a job in Ellensburg and I have been searching for a college that would allow me to transfer most of my master's credits. We both have been wanting to move closer to home, but we also do not want to be burned in the streets lol.

I really do not care if their isn't a queer scene, my old college just had Pride. But I have heard some rumors and we really don't want to put ourselves in an unwelcome place.

Town Housing Looking for a place to rent

Hello - I am relocating to the area for a new job but unfortunately my timeline (and budget) does not allow me to come out and tour properties before moving which has made my search a bit difficult. So I am just putting this out there in case anyone has a lead on something that might work.

Budget: $1500 - $2200

Property Type: Home/Townhome/Apt

Size: 700 SF +

Must be: pet friendly, W/D in unit

Nice to have: AC

Willing to pay more for: small enclosed yard for my dogs

Move date: May 25, 2026 (can be flexible a bit, but not too much)

About me: Just me and my two-dogs. Credit 700+, good rental history.

If you know of anything, please send my way! Thanks!
