For years I assumed solar was something people installed because they were passionate about green energy. My electric bill kept going up, but I never seriously considered it.

That changed after another summer of watching the AC run nonstop and seeing the utility bill climb right along with the temperature.

A couple of years later, the thing I appreciate most isn't even the environmental side. It's opening the bill and knowing I'm not nearly as exposed to utility rate increases as I used to be.

What finally convinced you to seriously consider solar?

What can I do to fix this ? I always screw up by telling too much info but I dont know how else to convey exactly what the situation I'm dealing with is. So, please, I dont need any lectures or "oh, just leave it to the professionals " BS. Here's the deal, my mom has lived in this shitty ass apartment complex for like 6 years now. Over the years, she's tried multiple times to get them to fix a multitude of different problems, and they stick a bandaid on it or do nothing at all. Well, my boyfriend has been building houses for 20+ years. He took off the cover plate and took off the old outlet (which crumbled and fell apart, mind you). And this picture is what he found behind the outlet. He got a new outlet and tried to hook it up, but it wouldn't power anything. Now, im not a rocket scientist or anything but if I had to guess, these wires are possibly burnt too badly or damaged? Idk, does that happen? Because I know it just looks like the insulation around the wire is burnt. Yes, my boyfriend can figure it out once he takes a bit more time but that's literally as far as he's gotten. He just looked at it and tried a new outlet. But, please, please do enlighten me 🤓👏🧠⚡️💡🪛

My bill for June-July is $744, using over 5000 kWh per month for a 1400 sq foot cabin with 4 window units and a well pump. Still seems way too high.

4 5000btu units, set to 70. Its an old house with only the remodeled parts having inuslation. I know nothing about this just trying to find answers of what to do. We live in the mountains of northern Greenville County SC and have never had a unit installed.

There’s this little tree branch still attached to the tree that’s resting across these 2 powerlines. The line you see in the middle of the branch is above and it’s not touching. I know that in the right circumstances an entire tree and surrounding soil and be electrified and this is right next to the sidewalk and the base of the tree is in someone’s yard. I don’t know if I need to call someone or if it’s actually completely fine and I’m just being paranoid. I’m not even sure if this is the right sub for this so if there’s a better place pls lmk.

I’m trying to figure out if switching off PECO’s default supply rate is worth it, and could use some real-world experience from people who’ve done it.

I am shocked at this bill, which goes without saying.

(edited to add key details):

2700 sq ft house.
Only run pool filter on off peak hours.
Only use AC and appliances on off peak hours (and often turn it off way before 2pm), so I’m sweatinggggg during the hours the AC of off.
I work from home, using a monitor and my computer.
Only charge EV on super off peak (weekdays and weekends).

Background:
• PECO customer, Electric TOU - DSP Residential Service rate

• My blended generation rate this bill was about 10.43¢/kWh (total supply charges ÷ total kWh)

• PECO’s current “price to compare” is 11.76¢/kWh, but that’s a flat rate — most of my usage falls in off-peak/super off-peak hours, so my effective TOU rate is already below that headline number

• Usage has crept up year over year (\~2,345 kWh → 2,674 kWh for the same billing period), mostly from AC and a pool pump

• AC: central air, only run after 6pm and off by 2pm, so it’s not touching the 2-6pm peak window at all
• Pool: pump has been running on manual on/off (whenever I remember), not on a timer — planning to put it on a timer so it only runs during the 12am-6am super off-peak window instead

What I’m trying to figure out:

1. Is it common for suppliers to lowball a teaser rate that jumps after a few months? What should I watch for in contract terms?
2. Any suppliers you’d specifically recommend or avoid in the PECO territory?

I literally lose power at my house almost every two weeks on average. I am sick of it. My food going bad. My old dog panting because she's hot. And then having to pay out the ass for electricity when it is working. I am so sick of consumers energy. I am so sick of this stuff it literally gives me anxiety. I have PTSD from losing power so often. I am tired of wasting my money. What the f*** is going on? Why can't the power stay on for more than a month at a time? And if they pay these guys so well then why can't they get them out there quick or getting the power back on quicker? I don't understand how they prioritize the outages but every single person that is out should be a goddamn priority. We pay so much on our bill and get the shittiest service. I don't remember any time in my life where I lost power this frequently. I am at my wits end. Fuck you Consumers Energy. They can shove their little $42 credit on the bill for losing it more than six times in a year up their ass.

I’m with contact energy dual usage required gas and electricity and there is a 3 % discount applied to the totalbill 117.50 so grand total was 515.67 .

I feel this is over the top and the most I’ve ever paid in 10 years living where I am. 2 people in the house and I’ve been going energy efficient and made the house more efficient over the years was extremely damp when we moved in and heater ran most of the day in winter then. Hrv running and house is now dry. North island bottom if info required. Advice greatly appreciated if there is a better company unfortunately usage will not change only the provider change is an option at this stage. Thoughts

Bakit laging automatic reaction na sa bulsa agad ng taumbayan ikakarga ang dagdag-gastos? Hindi tipid-tips sa pag-electric fan ang kailangan natin, kundi totoong pagpapanagot at reporma. Nakakapagod nang maghigpit ng sinturon habang sila pa-chill chill lang sa aircon!

I have a double-gang box with two 3-way switches. One controls a switched outlet, and the other controls a ceiling light from a second 3-way switch.

I made notes when I removed the old switches, but somehow lost them before installing the new ones. I usually take pictures too... of course this was the one time I didn't.

The box has three cables entering it:

Two 3-wire cables (black, white, red/pink)

One 2-wire cable (black, white)

I can't inspect the light fixture because it's a hanging light in the middle of a vaulted entryway ceiling, so getting to it would be a major project.

I did inspect the other 3-way switch that controls the same light. It is wired with:

Red (looks pink) on the common screw

Black and white on the traveler screws

I was able to get the switched outlet working, so that switch is finished.

That leaves:

One 2-wire cable

One 3-wire cable (5 wires total) for the remaining light switch.

Here's what's confusing me:

None of the remaining wires show 120V when tested.

The only constant hot in the box is the black wire feeding the outlet switch.

I don't remember that hot wire being pigtailed to feed both switches, although I do remember some screws on the original switches having two wires under them.

Things I've already tried:

- White wires from the 2-wire and 3-wire tied together, black from the 2-wire on the common, and black/red from the 3-wire on the traveler screws.

- Pigtailed the known hot from the working outlet switch over to the light switch common screw, placed black wire from 2 wire and red wire from 3 wire together on one traveler screw, then tested having white wire from 2 wire then with black wire from 3-wire on second traveler screw.

Neither configuration worked.

At this point I'm wondering:

Is there another wiring configuration I'm overlooking?

What additional tests with a multimeter would help identify which cable is line, load, or travelers since I am not getting voltage with wires when testing.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm comfortable replacing switches and have wired several other 3-way circuits successfully, but this one has me stumped because I lost my original notes.
