Mod Announcement: New rules regarding low-effort rants and broad political posts (Keeping r/Erbil fun)

Hey everyone,

As our community grows, we want to ensure r/Erbil remains a high-quality, useful, and welcoming space for residents, expats, and visitors alike.

Lately, the front page of the subreddit has been overwhelmed by repetitive posts, low-effort rants, and intense debates surrounding demographics, immigration, and ethnic relations. While we understand these are real-world topics that people want to discuss, the sheer volume of these posts is drowning out everything else—local news, city events, questions about neighborhoods, recommendations, and daily life in Erbil.

We are not banning these discussions entirely, but to keep the subreddit from turning into a one-topic limited space, we are introducing two new rules effective immediately:

1. No Low-Effort or Repetitive Rants

If a topic (e.g., a specific debate about demographics or immigration) has already been posted and discussed within the last 72 hours, new standalone threads on the exact same topic will be removed. Please use the search bar and contribute to existing threads rather than starting a new one every time you have a thought. Furthermore, screenshot-only posts of social media drama without constructive context will be removed.

2. Posts Must Be Directly Relevant to Erbil City

Many recent posts are broad national or regional political debates that belong on general country subreddits. If a post is about country-wide politics, broader Middle Eastern geopolitics, or general ethnic relations that do not specifically and directly impact the day-to-day running of Erbil city, it will be removed.

Where to post instead: For broad political, historical, or national discussions, please utilize r/kurdistan or r/Iraq, which are better equipped for those larger conversations.

Our goal here isn't to police opinions or suppress anyone. We just want to ensure that when someone visits r/Erbil, they see a reflection of the entire city—its food, its development, its daily challenges, its culture, and its community—not just a non-stop debate feed.

Thank you for helping us keep the sub organized and readable! Let us know if you have any questions in the comments below.

This is not a dating sub

Seriously guys, stop posting about dating, dating apps, where to meet girls and so on.

If someone wants to go create a r/ErbilDating sub, be my guest.

Otherwise I highly suggest you go out and actually start meeting people.

All dating posts will be removed from now on.

Is it comfortable to hangout ?

So I’m Iraqi Arab, and my fiancé is non-Iraqi. We’re both in our late twenties. I really wanna hang out with him comfortably , going to places and enjoy ourselves. I would definitely love to hold hands and hug and enjoy our time, nothing extreme but I wanna feel comfortably touching and for our personal space to be respected.
We obviously can’t do this in my city cause it’s a bit too strict for our liking and we’re not married yet so I’m asking here, is Erbil safe to spend like 5 days and just relax and enjoy? Is there anything we can do to make a meaningful trip there? Do you suggest any specific places to stay or visit to be less strict? We obviously planning to book different hotel rooms but still I would like to know if it’s a possibility to book one room.

Any suggestions for our potential trip is welcomed as well, nice places to visit, delicious restaurants to try, any other activities or good places in mind.

Thank you very much for your help!

Anyone know any hiking groups?

I want to get into hiking and was looking for a local group to do it with. I am not looking for a commercial group that gives tours or any of that, just a hobbyist circle that likes hiking.

Other recommendations for outdoor activities are also welcome, I am mainly tired of sitting behind a computer/phone all day.

Exploring Business Opportunities Between the United States and Erbil

I currently live in the United States and operate in the procurement and logistics space. I am interested in exploring opportunities to build business connections between the U.S. and Erbil, with the goal of creating a reliable trade and supply network between the two regions.
I am looking to connect with individuals, entrepreneurs, and businesses in Erbil who have ideas or identify needs for products, goods, or services that are difficult to access locally or could provide value to the market. This could include sourcing specific products from the United States, improving supply chains, importing specialized goods, or developing other business opportunities that make sense from both sides.
If you have a strong business idea, a clear understanding of the local market, and a realistic plan for growth, I would be interested in discussing the opportunity. For the right project with a solid foundation and potential, I am open to supporting the U.S. side of the operation, including helping with procurement, logistics, and potentially providing funding needed to get the business established and running.
My goal is to find serious partners who are interested in building something long-term, creating value, and developing a successful connection between the United States and Erbil.
If you have ideas or would like to discuss potential opportunities, please feel free to reach out. I would be happy to explore what we can build together.

Bro I fucking hate my manager sm like he keeps telling me to change who I am like my style, the way I talk, my voice ( i cant even change that)

Hes been telling me these stuff as soon as I started working and I hate it

And he keeps giving me life advices as if their any good like he says change ur style so ppl will look at u and dont make fun of u but why should I honestly care abt what ppl think abt me

He talks smack abt every customer that comes in and he's acting like he's pure and a good person

And he's mind is so dirty I cant even describe on how disgusted I am

Im like genuinely tired of my manager but im forced to work in that place and its actually hurting me alot

My dad found me this job and I dont know if I should keep working till summer ends or just quit all together

What do i do in this situation please
