General Question Danger from very old WW1 explosives

During WW1 trench warfare the British dug a series of mines under the German trenches, filled them with explosives and detonated them.

There are a number of these mines that failed to explode and are still there today. The Petite Douve Farm Mine Located just across the border from France near the Messines Ridge, this British-laid mine contains 25 tons (50,000 pounds) of ammonal explosives.

While it’s clear they remain dangerous ( a lighting strike in 1955 caused considerable damage when it detonated one of them) I am unable to figure out anything that says these would have degraded over the years.

Ammonal explosives are said to be ‘stable’ but does that mean the explosive power is still 25 tons? Or would it be expected to be much less - say 80% of that?

School/Pipeline Unit Patch for EOD School (Army)

Ill keep this short and sweet for you guys, just a quick question.

It is my understanding that there is no more phase 1 for officers and because of that LOGBOLC is TDY. At BOLC now, you are required to wear unit patch of follow on unit. My orders are for Eglin following BOLC. What Unit patch do the Army guys wear down there coming from BOLC? I have heard some mixed answers (ALU patch/59th OD BDE). Does anyone know for certain?

Thanks.

General Question Going to fort Lee today for eod

Just graduated army basic training yesterday, going to fort Lee for ait and was wondering what it’s going to be like and if there’s anything I should focus on more than others, I scored a 445 on my last aft at basic so I want to assume I won’t be to physically challenged for the job, tho I’m pretty small as a guy unfortunately, only about 5’6 135. Mainly just looking for tips and what I should be ready for, thank you!

School/Pipeline Time for college courses as an EOD

I’m enlisting in the Air Force as an EOD I have read that the school and everything is very challenging but I was wondering if once done with that how possible is it to balance taking online courses with the work/life balance? I was hoping to finish a bachelors as a I already have an associates so ideally 2 courses a semester would probably be enough. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated, thanks

General Question Stolen Valor?

Former AF tech here , still active duty and was wearing EOD hoodie at gym. Guy on base says he was a a Marine tech but then asks me where I did training ….huh? I said we go to Shepherd first assuming that’s his question then Eglin. He responds saying yeah we go to 29 palms - then talks about a deployment and how also they didn’t have a bomb suit 👀…

Has there ever been a period Marines didn’t go to NAVSCOLEOD? Sounds like he was a combat engineer (told stories of breaching, blowing up small arms, destroying mortars/tanks in the event they get overrun. But he def said he was EOD too ? Am I tripping rn?

School/Pipeline CEODD

Looking to attend CEODD with an EOD contract. Curious if over-unders are pass/fail or if people get dropped for these.

Additionally curious as to what causes the most attrition in the early stages of the pipeline.

General Question Workout Regimen

Hey fellas,

I signed my 89D contract a week ago and ship next June after I graduate college. I am currently on a 6 day lifting split but I am now trying to incorporate cardio and it's becoming too much exercise and not enough rest for me on top of my job.

Do any of y'all have recommendations for a 3-4 day workout split with 2-3 days of cardio that will help prepare me for that phase 1 AIT?
I'd say I'm in decent shape right now, I'm 6'3 195 and can do 5 pullups, bench my bodyweight, and have good numbers on isolation machines. I can run a 7 minute mile and a 15:49 two mile as well as a 2 minute plank max if that information matters for developing a new routine that can help me continue to improve.

Thanks!

WTF is it? Found two devices in a Vietnam vets safe that I can't identify.

For some reason they were locked within a box within the safe. I have no idea what they are. They are both identical and measure about an inch long by 3/4 inch diameter. They are aluminum. On one face they say "M9 LS-DZ-876" and seem to be dated 1966. On the other side is a triangle with the words "FB EOD 1". I'm assuming that makes them EOD things. Anyone know what this is and why they were saved all these years within two safes?

School/Pipeline Army Guard to Air Guard

Current Army National Guard E4 here with one year left on my contract. I’m looking to switch over to the Air Guard to go EOD. Is there anyone here in a similar situation who has gone through the school recently? I’m looking to get an idea of what it will be like for someone coming from another component.
