I'm sure that anyone in town is capable of working on my truck, am just interested in benefitting from the community's experience to be sure I'm working with a reputable shop since I need to have some fairly substantial/expensive work done.

Hello r/Durango, yet another annoying tourist here!

I’ll be camping, backpacking, and hopefully fly fishing in the area next week and I was hoping some local anglers could tell me how careful I need to be about water temperature.

I have read that some other places in southern Colorado are asking anglers to avoid fishing because water temperatures are too high to safely catch and release trout. The last thing I want to do is show up and damage the local fishery, so if you’re familiar with Valecito Creek, Los Pinos river, or any of the lakes in the Weminuche Wilderness, could you tell me if the water is too warm to fish anywhere? I’ll be stoping by a fly shop on my way in to get a thermometer to help me assess this myself and ask the same question of them, but I might change some plans based on input I get here.

I'm visiting Durango for a short trip this summer and really want to read outside and stick my feet in some water. Are there many places along the Animas River where I'd be able to set my camping chair on a shore or in a shallow area of water and just chill? The link on the "Visit Durango" website for "River Entry Points" is broken, so I'd appreciate any recommendations or just general suggestions for enjoying the river. Thank you!

Short version my wife and I are considering purchasing our current rental house in a year and a half, but we aren't in an income bracket to be able to pay the whole mortgage ourselves.

We live in Three Springs, so we're considering converting the basement into a 1000 ft. sq. ADU and furnish it and put it up as an apartment for traveling heathcare workers, but don't know if there's enough demand to warrant the effort and expense.

Are there any nurses or healthcare workers that can speak to their experience here in Durango?

Are there any homeowners who have converted homes or parts of homes to ADUs for traveling nursing?

Curious what options might be off the map here or the surrounding area that offers housing for work trade? It looks like Turtle Lake Refuge has some sort of accommodation. Ideally trying to find something starting in Oct/nov if winter doesn’t happen to completely shut down this option. I’m a pretty open and able being and currently doing work trade on a farm in NM.

Hi guys, I left a small tacklebox at Hookfin’s Pond about three or four days ago. If anyone finds it that would be really amazing. It is clear with blue plastic tabs and it has a few stickers on it.

This is Franklin, well that's what I call him. Franklin is in need of a home and a good cat owner. He was neutered and vaccinated by the Farmington shelter on Thursday, July 16th, and yes, he was ear tipped as he is considered a community cat. He's probably just under a year old. He's 10.9 lbs, and probably a pound or so under weight. He is a large, may get larger, nice handsome boy. He needs an owner and a home where he gets food, love, attention and guidance. He spent a few days in one of my large dog crates before the neuter, and he's back here again in the crate while he heals. He uses the litter box with no issues. I recently saw a social media post by a young

Woman who is Asian, I believe, and she alleged that the workers of a store she recently shopped at in Durango racially profiled her, accused her of stealing and called the cops on her. Ultimately it was determined she never stole a thing. It was quite disturbing to me all of the comments on that post from local Durango residents and Colorado residents who opined on their experiences with racism in CO and how it’s only gotten worse over time. One person even said they were from TX and moved to CO and the level of racism they experienced in CO was nowhere near what TX ever dished out. My husband (Caucasian) and I (Asian) are seriously considering moving to Durango, but now seeing that post, I’m thinking I don’t want to even move to Colorado anymore. My husband and I grew up in CA and moved to TX 24 years ago. I don’t have any experiences of racism (that I ever noticed) living in the Dallas area. And the thought of it happening in a small town like Durango, CO really puts me off. Any insights on this? For context, we’ve been vacationing in CO for almost 13 years between Breckenridge area and Durango area. And we fell in love with CO.

Just wondering how strict the Durango TSA are? I have a box of joints and edibles that I want to bring back but don't want to get into trouble. I've brought some weed back when I was in denver but Durango is a much smaller airport. Any advice/recommendations or should I just throw away what I have left 😭

This article summarizes every interaction and conversation I've had over the past five years with non-farming folks.

There is a crazy amount of farmer hating propaganda being spread heavily throughout our community without any real discussion or facts involved.

And before we cue all the non-farming experts of Reddit, let me explain how you've gotten to where you are:

The problem exacerbates itself when you've spent your entire life living off of corporate made chemically altered vegetables and meats that are so easily accessible and plentiful in every grocery store in this country it prevents you from ever gaining an understanding of what it takes to grow and process food. Real food. Not preservatives and steroids and pesticides.

So instead you become propaganda for fake food corporations by spreading your disdain for individual farmers while sucking down their manufactured poisons. Or to put in more simpler terms, you have become free advertising for billion dollar corporations.

The facts remain:

1) Humans need real food to live long AND healthy lives. Real food grown naturally. Without additives and chemicals.

2) Certain areas of the country are limited in the resources the environment can provide. Durango is not Chicago or Houston. It is a remote city, very isolated. If we continue to build houses and grow the local population we will destroy everything that everyone on here claims to love so much, the mountainous outdoors. The truth is, Durango is at capacity. Our resources cannot support more people moving here.

There should be a moratorium on all new builds unless they are replacing an older home. Continuing to stack people up in storage containers with siding does not solve resource problems, it creates more of them. Durangotangs need to think about the future of this city and not just seek this instant gratification we've seen boom in the past 6-8 years. Its reckless behavior

Hi, I’m hoping to get some Christian church recommendations. We visit Durango every year for a few weeks at a time and I would love to find a church to attend when we are in town. At the risk of making this slightly political, I am trying to avoid a conservative church. We are not republicans and don’t really agree with much of what’s happening in our country right now so I would prefer to not attend a church that is hyper conservative. It doesn’t really have to be super progressive either though.
