The single most overhated character in the entire show. You could put his picture on the definition page for the phrase “didn’t overstay his welcome”.
He showed up, had a few funny jokes, made the whole “Michael is leaving, but business will continue as normal” throughline all the more bittersweet and heartbreaking, and then was the villain for one more episode before leaving the show.
Also, the “babies I don’t care about” line might have been the best joke in the entire season.

I think he gets more hate than he deserves. He has some great scenes and some memorable moments. He’s not as funny as Michael or as odd as Robert California, but my Office fan friend and I still drop some DeAngelo quotes every now and then.

I wouldn't have complained if he remained manager for the last two seasons. I like what Ferrell brought to the show. It was different, but it was still a hell of a lot better than Andy's character assassination. They should've brought in an outside hire for manager to finish the series whether it was him or someone else. The Andy era just didn't work.

I thought he was hilarious for the few episodes he was in. I think he could have been in a few more, but definitely not an entire season. I like that, just like Michael, he is a bit unconventional. But unlike Michael, he has a bit of a scary edge to him. He is quite literally crazy.

Just finished season 7 recently and honestly I just found him inconsistent. Ferrell does a good job with what he’s given, but it just felt like the writers had no idea what traits of his to focus on.

Reddit hates DeAngelo, but DeAngelo was actually a really damn funny character for his stint on the show. We get it, nobody is ever going to replace Michael, but that doesn't mean the people who filled the Manager's Chair after him weren't funny.

I watched the show years after it went off the air so I wasn't as attached to Steve Carrell as Michael Scott and wasn't upset when he left. When I first saw Deangelo, I was like "oh cool, Will Ferrell is on the show"

I like him better on rewatches because I know he’s leaving soon. When it first aired we didn’t know if Will Farrell was permanent or not. I can’t take that much of him.

On rewatches he’s significantly better, in real time with Steve just leaving and how we knew Will it was a disappointment. I think his episodes are hilarious though.

I've never been a Will Ferrell fan, and this role didn't do anything to change that, but he did have a handful of funny moments. Glad they got him out of there when they did though.

He mostly felt out of place to me because it's Will Ferrel. I like Will Ferrel, just not in The Office. That being said, I do find myself quoting him all the time. GIMME THAT DOG. THAT'S NOT YOUR DOG. The only truly egregious thing he did, though, was add that dumb and unnecessary singing to what otherwise would have been a very heartfelt and serious moment during the song to Michael. That just felt like Will Ferrel being like, "how can I make this about me?"

Not much to explain, Carell completed his 7 year contract and decided move on, his last episode was with will Ferrell "taking over" for Michael Scott when it was never going to be a permanent character. As everybody knows Ferrell and Carell are best friends. Krasinski talks about how it was very emotional for them doing his last episode. Just a friend supporting another friend.
But people took it as something deeper than that and took is character waaaaaaay to seriously. It was just a throwaway character for 4 episodes.

That line he said when he met Michael was his most hilarious line for me.
Michael: "Do not tell my fiancée I'm drinking on a Wednesday."
Deangelo: "I won't. I don't know her."
So well thought out and delivered. 10/10

I think he was always meant to be a transitory element to distract us from Michael leaving rather than a permanent replacement. Unfortunately, that meant he had 3 different characterizations and was very inconsistent. Still, he was hilarious at times and changed up the dynamics of characters we've known for a while.

It was an improvised song done in the moment and he ruined it. Even BJ looked pissed.

Such a terrible character. One of the strengths of the auxiliary characters in the Office is how you can basically describe their personality and traits in a brief sentence or two.
Try that with Deangelo.

One of the strengths of The Office is that every major character has a clear, easily understood comic premise. You can sum them up in a sentence: Angela is judgmental and uptight, Kevin is sweet but dim etc etc.
Deangelo never had that clear identity. Who is he? Is he an overconfident manager desperate to impress people, is he insecure and needy like Michael, is he competent and strict, is he an incompetent idiot?
If the audience never understands who he is, it's harder to anticipate how he might react, which doesn't make for good comedy.
It was basically just a vehicle for Will Ferrell to goof around aimlessly.
