Lol, as a Timothy I’ve often wondered why James and Timothy are so different but have so similar shorthands. Then you’ve got Kim/Kimberly too, but at least Tim and Kim start the full names.

It’s all medieval rhyming slang, they apparently thought calling someone a nickname that rhymes with the normal shortening was the funniest thing ever. That’s why William can be called bill or James can be called Jim, (William>Will>Bill, James>Jam>Jim)

What about Kames? Male Kim is short for Kimball or Joakim btw, you can also be a Joatim or Timball.

Yeah, it’s James. They took the bold choice of renaming Tim(othy) Canterbury’s character to Jim (James) Halpert in the U.S. edition, lol.
