This playlist is like my abridged version. Honestly I think there's some amazing moments. Considering this is a polarizing album, what do y'all think of these tracks?

Well so is this, which you wouldn't think..but when you listen and watch these drums isolated, dude this is in his top 5 best drumming songs, at least. I watch these isolated vids aaaalot..I might put this in top 3 even. it's weirdly intricate and technical what not, like the great debate is for him. Killed it. I say weird cuz you just don't notice it(cuz how grand the whole song is)and it never gets talked about, like at all. But check it out, it's so nice! Such a buttery player and sound. MM is my fav drummer(in general), hes just the toppest tier of drumming level while being in a top 3 fav band of mine. But I also LOVE MP and just love watching him for whatever reason idk why..I think cuz the butteryness and my love for DT, he good! Ha.

You know what's another one too. The newest LTE. He sounds like the 2000s MP there watching those isolated drums, and it's just way better playing than his drumeo stuff. I wonder if he just slowed down(like energetically, which for him translates to drums since he's a straight up pure feeling drummer) a bit in whatever way the past couple years vs 2021 and prior...but then the Taylor swift stuff he went off like he does in the LTE..hmm. Idk I just think a lot of the drumeo dt playthrus don't have that spark in the playing as well as, he literally drops like every technical nuance and plays the songs very straight up, where in recording or prior past vids he's way more intricate(like watch panic attack play thru in studio recording vs drumeo for example). Anyone else notice that with a lot of his drumeo stuff when he does DT songs? Like live, constant motion is so much lesser than(these days). Another thing I've noticed, his recordings are always him at his very best, and it's the exact opposite with mangini, they'd cut so much stuff out from him on albums, which sucks..really sucks they did that. Watch his play thrus on his YT, he goes so damn hard and there's Soo much more going on. also watching him play live, all the songs are beefed up a great bit too. The play throughs though are really dope. I first noticed mp drop something out from the album version in overture 1928. where first real riffy part he does a cool double bass pattern following along with guitar, and he never did it live(mangini did). Another that instantly comes to mind that has studio footage is six degrees, the song, forgetting which specific song in it...

Anyway, I was really only pointing out how great the count of Tuscany is on drums then I just ranted about all that..

Hi there! I play guitar and keys in my band and I absolutely love everything about Dream Theater. My favorite band of all time. I’ve always been infatuated with the tone on the intro of goodnight kiss. Does anyone know how exactly it was recorded? I’d imagine it might’ve been the Roland Dimension D having to do with some of the chorus like effect. Would love to know more about how it was done on the actual track.

Does anybody remember this? I believe Mike Portnoy tweeted about this. I found it over a decade ago searching the depths of YouTube for Dream Theater content back in the day. This video was simply called "Dream Theater Criollo!!" lol.

Ever since, I've been a huge fan of these guys. Since then they've gone by the name "Compases de Integración" or simply "Compasses." They are a Venezuelan band and years ago their music got compared to Dream Theater, but like a Venezuelan Folk version of Dream Theater, lol.

I bought their album years ago, but its difficult to find their stuff these days.

I’ve always defended *Lulu*, but after finally watching *Pandora’s Box* (1929), I think I understand the album on a completely different level.
Seeing Lulu’s story unfold while hearing the record made me appreciate just how committed Metallica was to following Lou Reed wherever he wanted to go. They weren’t making a typical Metallica album—they were serving a dramatic vision.
It honestly made me think of a much darker “Dark Side of the Rainbow.” The pairing feels surprisingly powerful.
Has anyone else experimented with this, or am I crazy?

I recently came across this photo of JP in the early days with a BC Rich. Does anyone know the magazine or photoshoot this is from?

Dream Theater played the Zenith in Munich on January 26, 2014, on the Along for the Ride tour. John Petrucci played this pick and then tossed it to me. I've kept it ever since.

Here's my problem: it's the best pick I've ever played. Not "nice souvenir" best but genuinely the one that felt right in a way nothing since has. And I want to find out what it actually is so I can buy a stack of them.

What I can tell from the photo:

- Standard 351 shape

- Black, with the Majesty symbol in silver/chrome foil on one side

- No visible signature or text

It's clearly not one of his Dunlop signature picks — those are all Ultex, Jazz III or Flow shaped. So this is something else: either a custom stage print or a merch pick he happened to be playing that night.

What I don't know yet: thickness and material. The pick is at my old apartment and I'll measure it with calipers in the next few days, then update this post.

Questions for anyone who might know:

1. Does anyone recognize this specific pick from the 2013–14 tour cycle? Did you catch one?
2. Was Petrucci using custom-printed 351s on that run alongside the Jazz IIIs, or is this a merch pick?
3. If you have one — what thickness and material?

After a bit of research, I've figured out that this really is a memorabilia pick that's only given out at concerts / clinics. I guess I'll just have to wait for the next Dream Theater show and then somehow try to get my hands on something as close to it as possible. Luckily, Musikhaus Thomann is only an hour away, so I can go try a bunch of blanks side by side.
