Announcement About Doug's Retirement
If you have no idea what this is about, please go see Doug's latest video "Thanks for 7 Years of DougDoug"!
We wanted to take some time to address the news that was uploaded today by Double Douglas himself, as there's undeniably going to be a few questions about what this means going forward.
We recommend watching Doug's video for the full context and explanation for these changes in his words.
1. What's changing for Doug?
Doug announced that his current format for the DougDoug channel, to a very minimum, will be retired. This means the usual format for a DougDoug main channel video will no longer exist, if videos become uploaded at all -- this hasn't been confirmed.
Streams will still be happening (follow the man here if you haven't already!, and uploads will still be made to the second and VOD channels, but at an unpredictable pace. To quote Doug;
"I'm still gonna stream on Twitch, and that might seem weird, but the change is gonna be instead of trying to do two streams a week, or having the streams be in a certain type of format, I'm gonna stream... really, whenever I feel like it, and what I feel like. ...There might be a week where I show up and I'm like, 'I'm gonna do some Silksong challenge, all week long!' 'I'm gonna do a programming challenge, all week long!' Maybe I stream, yknow, 10 days in a row... and then there's probably gonna be a month where I just don't stream."
Doug also follows up via a comment on the Rosa streams;
"...currently, my plan is to not do a Rosa celebration this year. But that being said I absolutely want to keep supporting the Monterey Bay Aquarium and doing some kind of charity content, but I need to find a way to do it that feels more sustainable for where I am right now. So the MBA charity for 2026 is currently to-be-decided, it won’t be like the Rosa birthday streams but I would ideally like to do something, just in a very different format, and I'll just see how that develops over the next few months"
2. What's changing for the Subreddit?
Currently, nothing! We'll still be housing all your clips and memes and in-jokes and "r/wehatedougdoug will hear about this" comments as per usual, and will be operating as normal as there's been no changing impacting us! We understand it will be a difficult time for some, though, so we'd like to take the time to push the Discord for all your chatting needs.
If any change goes forward, you can expect another announcement here when we know and what it means, but for now we have no plans of changes to our operations.
Not to intentionally echo that of my fellow mod CraftedRobot, but I do also want to say on behalf of the moderation team thank you! This community has been an amazing fucking community since day one let alone year seven, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt I myself would not be where I am to this day without you all.
We have no doubt in our minds that the community and Doug's streams will continue to be as amazing as ever in the coming chapter, and we're all excited to see you there! If you have any questions or concerns, you can find ways to reach us in the Discord or send us a modmail! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Announcement Moratorium on "Repeal the Third" jokes
Hello, Chat.
While we tend to stray away from political discussion both in Doug's chat and in the subreddit, current events are very difficult to witness and talk about for plenty of people.
And THAT said, we need to talk about the "Repeal the Third" joke. Out of all the instances of the joke being posted recently only one has yet to be removed for political and distressing discussion so far, and that one's looking dicey as it is; people's comments and responses have said so. Thus, we need to place a moratorium on the jokes and their posts.
Starting today, Thursday, June 19th, 2025, the "Repeal the Third" jokes will be banned." Posts or comments of it will be removed as politics or drama, and repeat offenses may be met with harsher punishment.
Let's all be courteous to those in the US who are struggling right now, and not invite the discussion of such things in any way.

Miscellaneous My one ever DougDoug Stream experience
I was going downstairs to paint my model plane one day last summer, and I see a DougDoug stream is starting! Well, By Jove, I've never seen a DougDoug stream, despite loving his videos, why not give it a shot! I kid you not, this first time I had ever gotten a notification and decided, yeah, sure, why not, it was the "If I say Um, the stream ends." He explains the premise, I'm half focused, painting my model P-61, and because I'm watching on Youtube, there's a little more latency, so s he's talking about the plans for playing the game, it just ends, and I go, what the heck? I haven't gotten a notification at time I would watch since, and I think it's funnier to keep it that way.

Discussion Is Doug actually good at 2-D platforms?
As the title suggest, I’m actually curious if he’s good at 2-D platformer or if he’s actually legitimately bad. Recently, I watched that video that said he was scientifically bad at them. Although I definitely think he’s a lot better than I am, but I could just suck really really bad.

Miscellaneous Rosa is good on Wikipedia
I've been working on improving the Wikipedia article for Rosa (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_(sea_otter))). Yesterday, the article got passed as a good article!
A good article is basically an article that meets a set of editorial standards that successfully passes through a review. Just wanted to share!

I went to Open Sauce to enjoy some nerd time and I get this jumpscare. He kept asking to take a picture so I gave in out of pity. (No but seriously, he's chill)

Art Maps I made for my own AI invasions
Rules i developed after a few test runs (still kind of a work in progress)
Random events
Each Round 2 random events will occur, 1 purely generated by the AI, and another from a random country (picked by random country wheel)
The purely generated story is to expand on previous random events, and the random country is to start new random events
Economy
Each nation will start out with 5k, however this income can go up or down based on actions and events
-Small income modifier 1k
+Selling product or services to populus, simple trade deal, creation of factory
-Instability (turn immediately after some form of instability takes place)
-Medium income modifier 2k
+Trade deal involving selling the selling of a good, receiving war reparations
- Paying war reparations
-Large income modifier 4k
+Raising of taxes, corruption
-inflation, loss of capital, complete blockade
Each nation will have one political action per round
Examples of Actions that require political turn
-Declearing war
-Building factory
-Peace negotiations (if enemy capital is not occupied)
-Hiring someone
-Trade deals
-creation of factories/mines/farms
-attempting to form an alliance
-Researching new unit (will require an initial investment of 5x unit cost to allow production, includes secret and custom units, during the same turn the player will have to choose the location of the factory that produces them, if this factory is captured by an opposing force that force will be able to produce said unit and the original owner will lose the ability to)
Examples of Actions that do NOT take a political turn
-Statements (responding to ongoing situations, domestic or abroad)
-Peace negotiations if enemy capital is under control
War
Each nation starts off with 2 armies of 8 musketeers
Each province will by guarded by 6 musketeers and 4 farmers ONLY if no armies are present to defend it
Occupied Provinces will be guarded by 6 musketeers ONLY if no armies are present to defend it
Capital Provinces will have 10 musketeers and 20 farmers IN ADDITION to any armies already present
Armies
Armies will be created in TABS
Each army can only attack once per turn, armies can also attack 1 encircled province if it directly borders the province they just attacked
Armies can be as large or as small the the player wants, but of course multiple smaller armies will be able to attack more per turn than a single large army
Once an army has attacked a province that they locked there for the rest of the round
Armies can be merged, or added to but doing so will take their attack turn
Navy
Armies can also also be “naval” armies
Naval armies can protect/blockade 5 coastal provinces. If a blockaded tile is attacked by an opposing force, that opposing force’s naval army will fight the blockading naval army, and the land army will fight the land troops on the province they chose to attack. The naval battle will be fought first, and then the land army
Each naval army can transport 1 land army across seas, when landing only the naval army will fight the armies on the province they are attacking, if the naval army is destroyed the land army it is carrying will also be lost
In order to start a complete blockade all coastal provinces connected to the target nation’s capital (example in order to blockade the modern united states you would only need to blockade the contiguous 48)
AI
Capturing of territory must be put into the story, even if a generation does not happen (should be done in a way similar to the example below)
Britain captures Normandy and suffers moderate casualties
[Next Prompt]
[Generation]
When war is declared on another country that country will also have a turn each round
Encirclement
If a a chunk of territory is surrounded by enemy territory and all coastal provinces are blockaded if they have any, it will be encircled, and will have the following traits
- Armies inside encircled provinces cannot be re-enforced
- factories/farms/mines will cease to function
- Enemy armies will be able to attack 1 encircled province in addition to the one province they are normally allowed to attack

Question Whats dougdougs position on strategy games like hoi4/vic3/eu4/ck3/stellaris?
Recently i came across a vod of his on pax historia and in it he actually used a soundtrack from hoi4. As someone with 3000 hours in paradox games this is very exciting. Why does he not use those games? They could be used for chat challenges as he did with pax historia or for personal challenges.
