Week long trip

Family of 4-2 adults 2 kids (8&14) coming to Dominica for about a week or so and I was looking for any advice/ things to do. I haven't booked an airbnb yet but was thinking of staying near trafalgar/watten waven for atleast part of the trip. Family friendly activities, babysitter recommendations if we do a night out, things to avoid etc.

We are well accustomed to the Caribbean and have plenty experience driving right handed vehicles on similar islands. Would likely rent a vehicle. So vehicle rental companies would be appreciated-especially local companies as we like to spend money that directly benefits the local economy as opposed to big corporations whenever possible.

Dominica - Airbnb or hotel/resort

Hello! Looking to travel to Dominica in October. Do folks recommend an Airbnb or to stay in a hotel/resort? I do enjoy some parts of my trip being taken care for me like with a resort but I'm not someone who likes to sit around a hotel or resort and I will definitely want to get out every day and explore the island. So I'm just wondering what people's experiences have been and where people have stayed. I'm also wondering if it's worth it to get a rental car or to use a driver? I'm seeing people writing about the winding roads with steep drop offs, but I have driven all over St. Lucia and Grenada, which was quite scary, but I think the experience was so much richer by having my own transportation and being able to really get around and explore so just wondering would Dominique be comparable to driving in Grenada or St. Lucia? Thank you all in advance.

Traveling to Dominica, Grenada, and St. Vincent for Work

Hey Everyone, I'll be traveling to the three islands for work in April. Ill be in town for 2 weekends and almost 2 weeks. I live in the US, East Coast. I have lived in the Middle East for a few years, but have not been to the Caribbean before. Any tips for me? Cultural things to know, foods/medicines to bring, cash vs credit card, etc? We are being provided hotels and drivers, but I am not sure about food. We will be working Monday through Friday at client sites, but free on weekends. Any good tips for non local workers to do on weekends? Is there anything I can bring from the US that people on your islands may need? Medicine, supplies, etc?

Thanks in advance!

I want to visit Dominica in April (Easter time)

I would like to visit Dominica in April. From the 6th to the 11th, Easter holiday stretch. I have traveled to another Caribbean country at that same time last year and was not aware that many businesses, groceries, attractions would have been closed for the holidays because of Easter.

Is Dominica the same with respect to this? Are there any Easter festivals that you would recommend for a first timer to Dominica? Any assistance would be great. Very excited to visit.

Buying a home in Dominica

Just what the title says. I am buying a home in Dominica. Anyone who has lived there or purchased property there, can you advise me as to the legal process of purchasing a home there? Is it similar to the USA?

Any Dominica commonwealth residents here?

would you guys recommend Dominica commonwealth as a good place to work and live in?

I'm from Egypt and with every passing day the situation is in my country. Egypt keeps getting dire and dire. I'm thinking about buying Dominica passport and starting my life there. I have a couple questions, if someone could help me answer them i would be grateful. What is the minimum wage and average wage, And are they livable wages? How tolerant is the society toward Muslims? How easy is it to get a decent job? How easy is it to take my family with me? Thanks in advance

Which dishes best represent the cuisine of Dominica?

Hello Dominica! I'm doing a cooking challenge where every week, I cook food from a different country. Dominica is coming up soon and I was hoping you could help me decide what to make. Each week, I usually try to do a few main dishes, sides, often breakfast, and sometimes a dessert. Basically, any kind of meal can fit if you think it's a good representation of your country's cuisine. So far, I'm interested in making:

  • Callaloo - I'd love any tips on making this authentic, or a link to a recipe. There seems to be a lot of variation among the recipes I've seen.
  • Calypso chicken or Caribbean reef chicken - I will probably make only one of these; which do you think is better?
  • Codfish sandwich - I know this is very simple but I like to include a few simple dishes, and I have some cod I need to use up. I think the cod is usually breaded and fried, but what are the most common toppings aside from the fish? And is the bread a hamburger bun or something else?

I'd love to hear what else you think I should make, or if there's anything from the above list that doesn't fit. I'd particularly like to know what you eat for breakfast since I wasn't finding much about that online. My searches kept finding dishes from the Dominican Republic instead.
