Willemstad (founded in 1634) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and worth at least a full day. Key areas to explore include Punda, Otrabanda, Pietermaai, and Kura Hulanda Village.
Walking tours, e-bike tours, and tuk-tuk tours are all popular ways to get around the city.

Where is Curaçao located?
Curaçao is a stunning Caribbean island in the southern Lesser Antilles, just 40 miles (65 km) north of Venezuela, alongside neighbors Aruba and Bonaire.
When’s the best time to visit?
Curaçao enjoys warm weather year-round. May to November is off-peak, with fewer crowds, lower prices, and a more relaxed vibe. December to April offers the driest weather but is peak season.
Do I need a visa?
No visa is required for citizens of the U.S., Canada, or EU countries for stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Travelers from other nations should check visa requirements with the nearest Embassy or Consulate of the Netherlands, as Curaçao is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Is a Digital Immigration Card required?
Yes, all international visitors must complete the Digital Immigration Card (DI Card) online within 7 days prior to departure at dicardcuracao.com/dicard. It’s mandatory for entry and distinct from the optional Airside Digital Identity App, which speeds up immigration with facial recognition.
What currency is used?
As of March 31, 2025, the official currency will be the Caribbean Guilder (Cg or "Florin Karibense"), replacing the Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG) at a 1:1 exchange rate. The ANG will remain valid until June 30, 2025, and can be exchanged at banks for a year after that. U.S. dollars are widely accepted, and major credit cards work almost everywhere.
What languages are spoken in Curaçao?
The official languages are Dutch, Papiamentu, and English. Spanish is widely spoken, and many hospitality workers are learning Brazilian Portuguese due to growing tourism from Brazil.
Can I fish here?
Yes, fishing is allowed with restrictions. Shore fishing doesn’t require a permit for personal use, but boat fishing or commercial fishing does. Check local regulations at the Curaçao Tourism Board or with fishing tour operators.
Should I rent a car?
While not essential, renting a car is highly recommended to explore the island’s hidden gems and beaches at your own pace. Public transport exists but is limited.
Are there ride-sharing apps like Uber or Lyft?
No, Curaçao doesn’t have Uber or Lyft. Taxis are available but expensive—always agree on the fare beforehand.
How does public transportation work?
Large buses ("Konvooi") run fixed routes hourly; check schedules at autobusbedrijf.com. Smaller vans (marked "BUS" on plates) operate without fixed schedules or routes—ask the driver for your destination. Pay in cash (Cg or USD).
Check out Shuttle and Airport Transfers
What should I know about driving?
What about parking downtown?
Parking in Punda and Otrobanda is paid via coins or an app (credit card required)—machines don’t accept bank cards. A free public lot in Punda is available, though space is limited due to a seasonal go-kart track (as of March 2025).

What tours are available?

What are the best beaches to visit?
Don’t miss Playa Porto Marie, Cas Abou, Santa Cruz, Grote Knip, Kleine Knip, and Playa Kalki—each offers crystal-clear waters and unique vibes.
Can I snorkel from the shore?
Absolutely! Beaches like Playa Porto Marie and Cas Abou have vibrant coral reefs and marine life just steps from the sand.
Are there boat or snorkeling tours?
Yes, numerous operators offer boat trips and snorkeling excursions. Book ahead, especially during peak season, to secure your spot.

Is Curaçao safe for tourists?
Generally, yes. Curaçao is tourist-friendly, but use common sense—keep valuables out of sight and stay alert in unfamiliar areas. Don’t leave items in visible car seats; use the trunk, as smash-and-grab thefts occur at beaches and hiking spots.
Are there health risks to watch out for?
No major concerns, but stay up-to-date on routine vaccinations and pack mosquito repellent for evenings.
Is the tap water safe to drink?
Yes, Curaçao’s tap water is distilled from seawater and meets top safety standards—drink up!
--
Where can I eat late at night?
After 10 PM, options include:
Most other places close early; some minimarkets stay open until 11 PM.
--
Does Curaçao have a cruise port?
Yes, Willemstad’s cruise terminal includes:
How close is the cruise port to Willemstad?
Very close! Mega Piers are a short walk to the Handelskade waterfront. Mathey Wharf is steps from Punda’s historic streets.
What’s there to do near the cruise port?
Are there day tours for cruise passengers?
Yes! Options include snorkeling at Playa Piskado (famous for turtles), rugged jeep safaris, or guided city tours. Book through your cruise line or local operators in advance.

I want to propose to my partner when we go to curaçao in a few months. We are staying in Willemstad - I’ve been trying to research the best place to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?
We don’t have the biggest budget but love adventures. My partner is pretty shy so nowhere extremely in the public. We’re going with her family so I’ll have them at a distance but still can watch.
What do you think?

Hi everyone!
I'm going to Curaçao this Friday and I'm looking for recommendations for good restaurants that are reasonably priced (not fancy or too expensive).
I'm open to any type of food, especially places that locals like or hidden gems. I'll have a rental car, so location isn't a problem.
Thanks in advance! 😊

I collect masks when I go to a new country and try to get a locally crafted one. When I was in Aruba that had an awesome shop called the mask Mopa Mopa. Wondering if Curaçao has something similar? If their any artisan markets where I can find a souvenir mask to add to my collection?

Hi all! Heading to the island next week, I’ve scrolled through this thread and TikTok and have seen a lot of mixed reviews about the different boat excursions to Klein: e.g Mermaid, All Boat Charters, Blue Fin, etc. wanted to check in again about your thoughts?
No particular requirements but a plus if it includes food and drink (alcoholic and non). Other thing to note is my niece gets sea sick very easily. I know they the water conditions vary but I’ve heard certain boats are better than others.
Thank you for your help!

Hi all. My husband and I are planning a vacation coming from the Midwest and trying to decide where to go. Our main wants are a nice resort (we’re usually Westin (or just bonvoy) people) and easy snorkeling. We’ve been to the grand cayman and bora bora and both are incredible in our opinion. We generally want to relax, eat good food, snorkel, read, go to the spa, etc. not huge nightlife people. We’re planning late August or early September and trying to understand more about the weather in both. Seems like both would be good and seems like Maui is much more expensive. Any thoughts are appreciated including any recommendations for hotels in Curacao - we would probably stay at the Westin in Maui. Thank you in advance!

TUI Blue Curaçao update (July 2026) – current construction status
I read TUI Blue Curaçao was accepting bookings for summer 2026 (including July dates), so I wanted to share a very recent firsthand update.
I passed the resort by boat two days ago and it is not close to being finished yet.
What I could clearly see from the water:
- Two buildings look relatively far along and appear to be in the final stages.
- Most of the other buildings are still under active construction.
- Several structures do not appear to have windows installed yet.
- There were construction trucks, equipment, and workers all over the site.
- The area looked like an active construction zone rather than a completed resort preparing to receive guests.
I’m not saying it won’t open, and I obviously don’t know the official timeline, but based on what I saw in person this week, I would personally be cautious about assuming a fully completed resort experience for near-term July 2026 stays.
If anyone has an official update from TUI or a confirmed opening date from the resort itself, I’d be interested to hear it.

I recently made a post asking about staying at an AI adults only resort and received a lot of great suggestions and resorts outside of the main one that I was looking in to. I also had a few people mention getting an Airbnb instead so that my foodie husband (or at least he will be by then) and I can experience the best of the island without being so far off from everything (although I know the island isn't that big).
I think I have convinced myself that we can forego the AI resort this time around and do an Airbnb. We did that when we went to Belize and we had a ball. I always have to remind myself of that trip since it was the first time we did an Airbnb for an out of the country trip.
Anywho... now I need recommendation on where I should look for decent Airbnbs on the island. We like the beach and would like to be close to a nice beach, but we would also like to be near or not too far (walking distance would be great) to restaurants as well. I will also be looking into renting a car as suggested in my other thread.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Hi everyone!
We’re planning a 10-day family vacation for the end of August (2 adults + kids aged 11 and 13) with a budget of around $10k.
We’re currently deciding between:
Curaçao
St. Martin
Turks & Caicos
Aruba is unfortunately out of our budget. We’re also considering the Dominican Republic or Mexico as backup options.
Our biggest priority is beautiful beaches and clear water. We’d really like to avoid sargassum if possible.
Any hotel recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated

When we visited Aruba, 2 years ago, we experienced an exclusive dining experience called Chef’s table at Ego restaurant . Anyone aware of a similar experience in Curaçao and any recommendation based on your experience?

What’s the best all inclusive adults only resort? I’m considering Sandals, but I hear it’s far from everything.

I know a lot of this subreddit is full of “check my itinerary!” “Avilia or..?” 😅
BUT for those of us living here, where are we going for our micro-glowups?
I have a dermatologist that I see here on the island for my tret prescriptions, and Botox treatments. But I’ve also taken notice of MedSpa’s like Klinik Medical Beauty and the Curacao International Clinic. I was interested in visiting Dr. Wong for filler, but dropped all communication when I asked for before/after photos and the response was that they “had none to protect patient privacy”. I need to be able to see a doctor’s work. I wouldn’t ever blindly book something FOR MY FACE without seeing results, you know? Same with an augmentation.
So brace beauties of Curaçao; what recommendations, tips, or names do you have to share?
I personally go to Dr. R. Gouvenour for hyper dilute Radiesse.

I am planning a trip for a few days in October. Since I will only be there for 4 days, do I really need to rent a car? I want to plan some excursions but outside of that plan to hang at pools/beaches. Thoughts?

Hi There,
My Girlfriend and I will be going to Curacao soon. I have my SSI certification and she has signed up to get hers but not before our trip. I'm hoping to find a good dive shop that will provide the crash course along with an easy shore dive. I'm hoping to find a spot that we can then come back in the following days to dive again. Any recommendations on best shops for this scenario?
Thanks for any help.

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a new place to rent in Curaçao as I’ve recently relocated for work on a fixed contract.
My current living arrangement is no longer suitable, so I’m looking for somewhere with a bit more space.
What I’m looking for:
1 or 2-bedroom apartment or house
Semi-furnished or unfurnished (Includes kitchen appliances and a washing machine would be a plus)
Gated property preferred
Secure parking for 1 company vehicle within the property
Ideally less or within a 20-minute commute to Isla Refinery (my office is about 5 minutes from Isla)
Budget:
Up to ANG 2,500 per month, preferably with utilities included, or negotiable depending on what’s offered.
I’m looking for a long-term rental and can provide employment verification if needed.
If you know of anything available or have any recommendations, please feel free to send me a message. Thank you!

Where are some good resorts to stay at that or nearby town and walkable to beaches? plan on renting a car, will need to have parking as well. Was thinking of staying at blue Bay however I have read many mix reviews about them. The art hotel seems nice too, but seems a little secluded and doesn't have a beach with sand. Kontiki looks very nice as well.
