Hi everyone. A few reminders.

  1. I’m not affiliated with DG in any way. Unless you consider “affiliated” to be someone who occasionally buys snacks and cheese at DG.

  2. Don’t be a dick. Self-explanatory.

  3. If I ban you, don’t message me. You’re wasting your time. I’ll either block you or respond sarcastically THEN block you.

  4. Y’all are good folks…except for the select few losers who insist on not paying attention to item 2 up there ☝️.

Carry on. Remember…don’t be a dick. 👍

The way I view it

If the store manager is terrible It reflects in his or her’s team & store conditions. If the store manager doesn’t put in work, how do you expect your team to do all the work? Lead by example, do by explaining, showing and doing. This job isn’t hard. The last most important part of my rant. Be nice to all your fellow employees. Let them have a weekend off too. You’d be surprised if the results

Bulk Purchases?

Upvotes

I’m having a large party next month and want to get sodas right now since they are on sale at DG (3 for $16).
I need ~60 total 12-packs of Coke/sprite/coke 0.
I know my location may not have this many, but has anyone done something like this before and have a smoother way? I was hoping I could get some type of bulk order, as I don’t want to be the person who goes and buys out 2 store’s worth of soda and leave none for others.

Does the subtotal have to be more than 40 (excluding coupons) to use the 10 off 40 one? Like would I get an additional 10 off this on Saturday or do I need to add more stuff?

Didn't get fresh last week, still got charged for it

Last week on our fresh truck day we were informed by another manager on our route that the trucks freezer was broken and over temp.

We never heard anything else. Truck never came, no email, no notice of if or when we would get it.

Today doing p4 I noticed that ALL of my counts are wrong because the inventory was updated as if we received the truck. I checked the invoices on the computer and we were charged over $7000 for a truck we didn't receive.

On tram, it shows the truck was received and says "carrier acknowledged" while every other week when we actually did get fresh it says "store acknowledged."

So what happened? Did the driver just claim he delivered the truck and dump it somewhere??

I already sent all the info to my DM and she said she "sent it up" I'm just genuinely curious how this even happens.

Hand pain. How do I tell my job I can no longer do my job - from my job?

I’ve been doing this job for almost two years. I love working freight but I have very small hands. The boxes with glue on them require a LOT of force for me to get open. I have such awful pain in my right hand now that I dread going to work because of the pain and frustration of not being able to do anything I normally do. I try to use my left whenever possible but most of the time I need both hands. I mean I can’t open boxes, grab items and bagging them without serious pain. Our store has been running a skeleton crew (IF THAT) and that means calling off is not an option. I no longer can ignore it but I don’t know what to do. I am depressed every day because I know I’m going to have to “power thru” and I just physically can’t anymore. I don’t know how or what to tell my boss in this situation. Help.

I've been at same store for over two years and no promotion in site. Was offered a performance raise but it's been three months never has it gone into effect. I want a higher position, the store manager went on leave had me basically running store along side my asm. Now it's like they want same effort from me. I haven't called off work in a year but then I do call of last week they slashed my hours in retaliation. Will I have a hard time getting a job another dollar general? I am an excellent worker I basically work the entire dry and fresh truck every week. I work the dry truck every Friday and Saturday. The key holders won't work it I have been doing their jobs without the pay or the title but my responsibilities have been getting taken away and it's just not fair I feel taken advantage of.

Who is supposed to train new hires?

I’m a part time employee responsible for making the schedule, training new hires and coming back to lock up the store for new leads who don’t have keys. I went on vacation for almost two weeks only to come back to two full time leads that hadn’t been trained and our ASM doesn’t even know how to close. Who does this fall back on?

WHY? why? WHY?

Why do people go to a store, pick out a cart full of items from all over the store, watch me scan and bag them all and then act surprised when I ask them for payment? While you waited in line might be a good time to get your money ready or heck even BEFORE you leave the house might be a good idea. I can’t stand people constantly coming to the register that tell me, “I have no idea how much is on this card.” Yet you gathered a whole basket of stuff and have no idea your budget if ANY. I don’t even mind the ones who use 5 different payment methods. CALL YOUR CARD BEFORE YOU SHOP. Stop wasting everyone’s time and my energy like it doesn’t matter.

Short On Register

For like the last week, apparently, I was just told that my register has been short consistently by like 10 to 20 dollars. I have no clue how because I'm constantly double checking, counting out loud, I've slowed down on my counting, too, and it still apparently came up short. I actually like my job, and I'm worried because I have no idea what to do to fix it.

Exit Survey Email

Does anyone know who gets the responses to the exit survey? My last day was earlier this week and while I wasn’t brutally honest, I also didn’t leave a glowing review of my time spent at DG or the SM.

Does the survey just go to the anonymous corporate offices, or will the SM get a copy of the responses as well?

DG Market Build and Zone Rules

WE NEED A DG MARKET in my small rural farm town. The rural farm town 15 min north of us got a new DG market THIS WEEK. They are are in the same county, but not the same DG Regional district…my question is WHAT are the pre-reqs and what are corporate rules when they select DGs to upgrade to a Market. My boss claims ours won’t, because the town north of us got the remodel, and there are rules about how many DG markets can be in the same county. I am trying to understand the policy here. Just this last spring, we had contractors out thoroughly zoning and droning, taking pictures of the property and inside the store . We also got our cooler doors upgraded to the encased plexiglass. This is the exact thing that happened to the store 15 minutes north of us before they were told they’re becoming a market. I HAVE A BET WITH MY BOSS THAT WE WILL GET A MARKET TOO. Help me understand how DG permits and zones their Markets AND IS THERE A CHANCE WE COULD BE GETTING ONE ALSO?

I hate floorstands

They know our aisles are only maybe 4 ft wide and we have to have 3 ft to be ada compliant so why do they still insist on sending us multiple big ass floorstands??

Most of the core stuff I just condense right away to get rid of the floorstand but some things there's just too much.

I'm looking at you, big ass boxes of green dot and red dot pillows. Giant framed art pdqs that won't fit on the shelf. Fucking swiffer stands that barely sell at my store. The 7 big boxes of giant bouncy balls that I've only sold maybe 5 of so far this year.
