that my Border Collie mix is 0% Border Collie. *Results at end* *photos from puppy to recent*. He was adopted from a rescue in Mississippi who didn’t do bordetella vaccines (or at least his paperwork didn’t show any). We had him for maybe a week before he came down with kennel cough and then spent about 2 weeks in ICU. He recovered and is a normal, healthy boy. The change in nose color is because he got bit by a rat. When we adopted him they said the mom was a black and tan mix and his siblings ranged from looking like Border Collies to Labradors, all were either black and black and white. We’re now calling him a Hound in a Chow sweater. I’m actually shocked with how much hound is there because besides howling sometimes, he has a lot of Collie traits. He has relatives on Embark ranging from 7% up to 50% (2 siblings listed).

Few days ago I posted about Ekko. He is big boy already 24kg at 8 Months.

Most of us were right about Husky, but there are some big surprises :D

Got a basepaws test done cause it was cheap through my pet insurance’s app. Is this combination seem remotely possible or has anyone ever heard of this before?

yes, we’re from australia! we think he was probably bred to be a ‘pigging’ dog given where he was dumped, and given his breed mix.

Just mailed out her Embark swab. She's almost 5 months old, 36 lbs., with wonky ears and ginormous paws, and is the sweetest silliest derp. According to the shelter, she was found under a dumpster in Georgia.

I am guessing redtick coonhound, pitbull, maybe some Lab? Maybe some Great Pyrenees? She's got some floof around her neck. Her paws are huge and her legs are big-boned for sure - but they seem short for the size of her body. Most of the hound mixes I've seen are lanky and long-legged, but I suppose the relatively stubby legs could come from the pitbull.

She's got a big deep bark, but it doesn't sound like a hound bay (we used to have a beagle/lab mix so I'm VERY familiar with baying and howling). She is definitely not as nose-driven as my beagle/lab was at this age.

As far as personality, she is very sweet, wags her whole body, loves everyone she meets and often flops over for a belly rub, and is amazingly well-adjusted for a dog who has spent her entire life up until last week in the shelter. Nothing seems to faze her. My other shelter dogs all had some fear/anxiety around new people, loud noises, etc., but this one just takes everything in stride.

The rescue said he was a retriever/husky mix (we knew that wasn’t possible!) I would have bet money on this boy being at least a 1/4 pit with that smile 😇

when we adopted sullie the rescue org said she was a black mouth cur - also what apple’s ai recognized her as in the photo app. which we took at face value. upon finding the bmc subreddit and realizing a lot of dogs are mistaken for that breed we got her dna tested..

We got this guy at about 8 months old from a Leonberger rescue, with the presumption that he was a Leonberger mix. 80 lbs at 8 months, very sweet and gentle temperament other than puppy mouthy play.

i was sooo convinced that she would be at least some german shorthair pointer! any guesses as to where her webbed paws might be from?? she also has brown underneath the black around her ears and eyes… not sure about that either!

This is Mollie. We are currently fostering her. She had been living on the streets for a couple weeks but now safe in our home.

I'm wondering if there is any other explanation for these results because it is blowing my mind. In August of 2025, there was a puppy roaming a nearby neighborhood and we decided to adopt her. We did the Embark test and she turned out to be a Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd/Pit mix. Her name is Jade and she has the black coat.

Fast forward to June 2026, and I see a beautiful brindle shepherd mix on the euthanasia list of our local shelter and I just had this feeling that I had to save her. So I adopted her at the last minute and the shelter spared her life. We named her Penny and just got her Embark results back and she is basically the EXACT same breed mixture as our first dog! And to top it off, Embark says they are siblings! That would be absolutely insane to me if true. Is there any other explanation? Is it simply because they are of almost the exact same breed makeup or is it actually true that they are siblings?!

My mind is blown!

This is Olive "Ollie" she's right at a year-old and weighs about 31 pounds. The shelter called her a flat-coated retriever. Any guesses?

Newly adopted puppy, will know test results soon & curious what everyone thinks he is.

I rescued this little fellow from our local shelter. I thought for sure he had some terrier in him but alas, the Embark results do not indicate that.

We got Macaroni at a puppy rescue when he was about 7 months, having been returned by a previous owner. We assumed he was some kind of doodle so we were surprised by just how much poodle was in him. He has a very long body and bad allergies which I think might indicate bad breeding initially? He is super high energy and needs a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. He goes on 2-4 mi hikes weekly and plays a TON every day. He has also had really significant color fading as you can see between pictures 4 and 5. He is almost 4yo now!

We adopted Larry a few weeks ago - the shelter wasn’t sure his breed mix since the home he came from had many adult dogs and multiple litters of puppies :( they didn’t even know which one was his mom. Just got the results back - results posted in the thread.
