Now that we're past the draft and free agency it's time for the yearly /r/DetroitRedWings prospect ranking thread! As for how you vote it's completely up to you: some may weigh ceiling/upside the highest, others may weigh NHL readiness or likeliness to make the NHL higher - there's no wrong answer on how to vote.

A new poll will be posted every 2-3 days depending on how close the voting is until we finish the top 15 prospects. I'll include 10~ prospects every poll and will add one new prospect after each poll so discuss in the comments and whoever is mentioned most will be added next.

Check out the subreddit's previous rankings here (starting from 2018!): HERE

Discussion Is this the worst off season yet?

Not gonna lie I'm pretty upset about losing Kaner. I know he may not have been the greatest player for our current roster situation, but seeing him in a wings jersey was essentially a dream come true.

That said, is this the worst off season the wings have had in the last 10 years? I get the sense that were about to go from a fringe wild card team to the bottom. Idk if my emotions are taking over with how frustrating the last few months have been, or if anyone else has the same feelings here. I just don't see us winning more than 30-35 games with the direction this ship is heading.

Might be overreacting, and obviously things can still change before the season starts but I highly doubt that. Illich sucks as an owner. Larkin and Yzerman sure haven't helped. Just hoping to see a playoff run by 2040 at this rate.

Game Highlight Thankful for Patrick Kane's time in Detroit and analyzing if Kane is still good

Hi folks,

I've always been a big fan of Patrick Kane and became an even bigger fan when he joined the Red Wings. I've been working on a video for quite some time trying to answer the question "Is Patrick Kane Still Good?" Today, as Kane signed with the Blackhawks, I finally finished this video and wanted to share that here.

So, do you think Kane's time in Detroit was a success (outside of missing the playoffs)?

Discussion Half Season Tickets - Red v White Plan

I just got the notification for my White plan season tickets.

We get the typical NYE game … but it’s at 2pm...

The Red plan gets:

- Home Opener
- Home Closer
- Halloween
- Thanksgiving Eve

Is it just me or does it seem like they’re provided with more marquee games?

Last year the Red plan also got the Fedorov retirement … and we did not in White plan.

Satire Similarities between the film Wings (1927) and the Detroit Red Wings (contains spoilers) Spoiler

-both basically 100 years old with 1% margin of error.
-have "wings" in the name.
-movie scene had bubbles, red wings were a bubble that was at the top of the division before they popped
-movie had planes, Mason Appleton is a former Winnipeg Jet (and hopefully former red wing).
-movie character Jack Powell mistakenly thought his friendship with David Armstrong was betrayed when he ripped up Sylvia's photo; red wings fans were absolutely betrayed by Dylan Larkin.
-Jack and Mary meet in Paris, which is known as the "city of light", and there is no light at the end of the tunnel currently for red wings fans.
-jack unknowingly shoots his brother in arms, Dylan Larkin knowingly stabs his fan base in the back.
-jack and David are fighter pilots who get shot up by the enemy, the red wings got lit up at their last home game of the season
-movie Wings features a very famous shot where the camera goes on a very long move, red wings are known for blowing their last shot to make the playoffs before making it their 10th year in a row without playoffs.
-the movie left me feeling sad.
-davids mother wanted to hate Jack for unknowingly killing David, but she saw the pain in Jack and could not get herself to hate him; I might be down voted for this but at the bottom of my heart, I do want some kind of a future where i don't hate Larkin anymore, maybe we win a cup or something and this hate just becomes old news. He was my favorite player, man. I'm tired boss

Pictures/Wallpapers/Etc Yearly phone background thread!

Given today's news about Kaner, I decided that I need a new phone background. I don't have any ill will towards the man, he wants to retire where he started his career and with the payday they are offering, how could you blame him. That said, it just doesn't feel right to keep him on my lock screen.

It's been a minute since we had one of these threads, so I thought maybe now would be a good time to share everyone's Red Wings phone backgrounds to help your fellow wingnuts out with some options to update their screens.

So let's see those background images! Bonus points for sharing usable images!

Starting at about 12 minutes for DRW discussion (after taking a shot at Dundon). Great interview with Doug MacLean, who used to work in Detroit's front office. A lot of interesting insight about the inner workings of the Illitch's.

Discussion If Larkin starts the season and plays really well, could you get past the drama of this summer?

Upvotes

Right now we don’t have a GM. And it’s known that Larkin had a problem with Yzerman himself. Now with Yzerman out of the picture, it’s possible that Larkin doesn’t feel as passionately about getting traded. Truthfully, with him being so strict about the three teams he was willing to go to, it doesn’t really sound like you really wanted to get traded so badly. Otherwise, he’d probably have expanded his options.

But let’s say that Larkin starts the season off and he plays really well, plays at the top of his game and the Red Wings are getting good results. Him asking for a trade never comes up again because the boss that he didn’t like is no longer in the picture. Do you think that he could repair the relationship that was fractured with the fans like you and me? There’s all this talk about him getting traded, and if he doesn’t. him losing the captaincy at the least, which all makes sense, but I can’t help but think that there is a scenario where none of it happens and all the drama goes away. I personally have worked places where I’ve hated the boss enough to want to quit, but when he got fired, I was really thrilled with new management and I stuck around.

Discussion Now that Robertson has signed with Dallas, what are Larkin’s other options?

My dad is a cynical but loyal fan who’s been through the Dead Wings era, and I am an optimistic 26 yo fan who has mainly only known the pain of the last 10 years. We’ve been talking about our opinions on what Larkin’s options would be with a new GM in the mix. I’ve been consistently thinking that Robertson might be an option but my dad wasn’t buying it, and he was right. All of our chatting based on our different experiences makes me curious what the different generations of fans here think — was Robertson even a viable option from the start? Are there any viable options that could be done before training camp now that we’re out a GM? Could Larkin’s list be expanding privately and we don’t know it?

We both agree that if he stays and skates it might be a locker room killer and would change a team atmosphere that’s already in upheaval. If something does get done, I hope that our boys play with a chip on their shoulder and have some real grit to their play - that’s one of the ways I can see us coming out of this ahead. But again, I’m an optimist

Rumor Perron listed as "retired"?

Thumbnail app.livingsisu.com

David Perron's playing in a 3x3 charity league in Montreal this summer. Weird thing is, everyone else on his team is listed as being from the "AHL" or "NHL" except him - he's listed as "RETIRED".

I haven't seen any announcement that he's retiring or even that Detroit's given up on re-signing him... But obviously he's not signed. Think there's anything to this?
